SIMULATOR BASED TRAINING MarineSafety International (MSI) provides simulator-based training courses for mariners working on various types of ships. The company offers to its clients so called Custom Training Package (CTP) concept. CTP provides a framework for working with their clients to conduct a risk assessment, design and conduct a training program that will result in demonstrated proficiency on the part of key members of ships' crews. The MSI’ s custom centric approach is also employed when assisting engineers in planning or improving major ports around the world by conducting man-in-the-loop simulator-based studies with pilots and ship operators. A hydrodynamic model is prepared for each ship that is used in a training scenario or in a port simulation study. The company has recently received ISO 9001:2000 Certification for its quality management system. The Assessment was conducted by ABS Quality Evaluations. The Quality Management System applies to all: "Design, Development and Conduct of simulator-based training and research for the maritime industry."

PLANS TO RESCUE YARD The Polish government plans to take a controlling stake in the financially strapped Szczecin Shipyard from private owners. If this were to take place, it would be the first re-nationalization of a privatized company in Poland. Stocznia Szczeciñska, one of the largest shipyards in the world, lost its financial liquidity in October when banks refused to grant it a loan to build new ships.
The shipyard's debt is currently estimated at about US$270 million. In March, production was halted and more than 6,000 employees were forced to take a temporary leave. The government says its condition for helping to financially restructure the company is renationalization. Treasury Minister Wies³aw Kaczmarek said that the intervention would ultimately give the state more than 50 percent of the shipyard's stock. At the moment, the State Treasury holds less than 10 percent in the holding company. Grupa Przemys³owa, made up of the holding company's managers, owns 35 percent. Centromor holds over 17 percent, Porta Ekocynk has almost 9 percent and employees hold a combined 25 percent. The yard’ s new management board plans to undertake measures enabling the shipyard to resume production in June.

Maxita to be upgraded to DP3 heavy lift vessel BMT Ship Design in the UK - a subsidiary of British Maritime Technology (BMT) - has announced that it had been awarded a contract to provide design support services for the conversion and upgrade of the MV Maxita to a DP3 heavy lift ship. BMT was selected from a number of competing consultancies by Sembawang Shipyard Pte Ltd, a subsidiary of SembCorp Marine Limited of Singapore. The MV Maxita is presently a DP2 vessel equipped with a 600t crane mounted conventionally at midships, with accommodation for upwards of 85 personnel. The conversion will include a complete new aft section incorporating new engine rooms, aft mounted 2400t crane, extension to the current accommodation block to accommodate 195 personnel and internal reallocation of hold and ballast spaces. The 2400t crane and much of the engine room equipment is to be removed from an existing vessel belonging to the Saipem Group, the MV Pearl Marine. This existing equipment will then be reused as part of the conversion. On completion, the MV Maxita will become one of the core vessels of the Saipem construction fleet. She will be returned to service in early 2003 in the Far East and will be used as a multi-service vessel for Saipem's worldwide operations.

BUE Viking will be owned 50:50 by Edinburgh-based BUE Marine and Norwegian-based Viking Supply Ships. A decision on the location of BUE Viking's North Sea headquarters will be taken within the next few weeks. David Hekelaar, current Managing Director of Viking Standby, has been appointed Managing Director of BUE Viking with BUE's Peter Hingston becoming Operations Director. Hekelaar and Hingston will join the board of the new company, which will also have tworepresentatives each from BUEMarine and Viking Supply Ships. Both companies believe the merger will enable the new business to compete more effectively in a changing market and bring much-needed consolidation to the sector. BUE Marine Managing Director Carl Rolaston said: "This is a good deal for both companies and provides a solid foundation to consolidate and develop our business in the North Sea stand-by sector. The new company will be in a much stronger position to develop new ideas and deliver new vessels to meet the demands of our customers." David Hekelaar said: "The merger will bring some much-needed consolidation to the sector and gives us critical mass to meet the challenges of the future. It will also enable us to provide an extended and comprehensive service to the oil companies." Both companies are aiming to complete the deal by July and to fully integrate their activities by December this year.

Antwerpen bijvoorbeeld is 45 minuten rijden vanaf Vlissingen.

DAILY SHIPPING NEWSLETTER U.S. Navy Officer Arrested In Japan for Allegedly Injuring People A crew member of the U.S. guided missile destroyer Curtis Wilbur was arrested Sunday in Nagasaki port in southwest Japan on suspicion of injuring a local snack baremployee. According to Japanese police sources, the 8,422-ton vessel, capable of carrying Tomahawk cruise missiles as well as antiaircraft and antisubmarine missiles, docked at Nagasaki on Thursday to allow crew members to take shore leave. It is slated to leave Monday. The Nagasaki prefectural and municipal governments had earlier asked the U.S. Navy to refrain from allowing the U.S. destroyer to enter the port, but the request was ignored. Commenting on the arrest of Petty Officer Second Class Charles Green, 21, Nagasaki Governor Genjiro Kaneko said he was extremely regrettable for the case. Green was arrested around 6:30 a.m. (local time) after he allegedly punched the 29-year-old employee on a street in front ofa snack bar in Nagasaki more than 10 times , police said. Green got into an argument with a Japanese customer at the bar, where he was drinking with a colleague. Green and the Japanese left the bar to continue the quarrel outside, but when the bar worker tried to separate them, Green punched him, police said.
Navy's new corvette begins journey home
First Lady Zanele Mbeki and Defence Minister Mosioua Lekota opened a new era for the South African Navy when they presided over the launch of the first corvette to be built for the navy in 16 years in Hamburg, Germany. The corvette, the first of four which are part of government's controversial R66 billion arms acquisition programme which has drawn widespread negative reaction in the past, is being made ready for the long journey to South Africa in December.

DAILY SHIPPING NEWSLETTER The ship took its first dip into the ocean when it was released from the construction dock area june 7th , 2002 and water pumped around it to begin its journey . Senior navy personnel, generals, and Chief of the SA National Defence Force (SANDF) General Siphiwe Nyanda, as well as South African diplomats and economic advisors in Germany, braved the rainy weather inside the shipbuilding yard as South Africa's first lady broke a bottle of South African-made champagne to symbolise the naming of the ship as the SAS Amatola. The name of the ship comes from the heroic battle between the British and the Xhosas in the early 19th century which saw Xhosa warriors fighting a battle with no artillery against British army cannons of the imperial force. Lekota told the predominantly navy officials that the corvette's main purpose will not be to initiate wars, but to serve as part of government and the defence force's new policy to become defensive and not offensive. Senior navy officials, in a bid to show transparency, allowed City Press and the SABC a chance to inspect the corvette and its various compartments. The corvette, which will have state of the art equipment and advanced electronic military hardware, is expected to house a specialised hospital that will allow the navy to respond to disasters in southern African coastal regions. The corvette also boasts the ability to refuel helicopters and can itself be refuelled while at sea. Navy officials, beaming with excitement at South Africa's new acquisition, told City Press at the naming ceremony the existence of a naval fleet consisting of corvettes will ensure the country gains respect in the region and is able to deter possible adversaries. Lekota told the gathering the decision to purchase the corvettes was the result of a long process of consultation and transformation whereby defence in South Africa became defence in a democracy. "As our economy transforms and we participate more in world trade, so our ports become increasingly important to generate economic benefit for our people."
HMAS STUART DELIVERED The Royal Australian Navy took delivery of its fourth ANZAC class frigate, STUART, at the Tenix Defence shipyard (Williamstown, Melbourne). War stress wears out prostitutes PERTH prostitutes were reeling from exhaustion following an influx of United States sailors stressed from a stint in a war zone, a well-known madam said today. Mary-Anne Kenworthy said she was forced to close the doors of her famous Langtrees brothel for only the third time ever yesterday because her prostitutes were so worn out they could no longer provide a quality service. When she realised the sex workers just couldn't cope any more she closed Langtrees doors for a day rather than risk the brothel's reputation. "We're the biggest and the best, I'd rather take nothing than offer a poor service," Ms Kenworthy said. Langtrees did a week's business in just three days after 5500 American sailors disembarked in Fremantle on Sunday, many of them stressed from their encounter with war, she said. Three US warships – the aircraft carrier USS John C Stennis, the guided missile cruiser USS Port Royal and the fast combat support ship USS Bridge – were returning from taking part in the war against terror. "A lot of it was stress. They'd been in the war zone," Ms Kenworthy said. "And they were a lot more agitated sexually because they'd been at sea too long. "All the sex workers in Perth would have been exhausted." Ms Kenworthy said she had to close the doors when she realised some sex workers were taking money when they were not up to the job. "The girls were starting to refuse to have sex but still wanted money just for taking their clothes off." Ms Kenworthy said she wished the US sailors would arrive in smaller numbers. "I just wish they could dribble-feed the Yanks in, fly a thousand off at a time," she said. "We usually find the Yanks are hard work but lots of fun, this time they needed the company too." Ms Kenworthy said the last time she closed the brothel's doors was on December 31, 1999 so the girls could party.

Achtentachtig ton nostalgie zwevend boven marinehaven
