OPINION SECTION Daily News in a few SEKonds! Stress. Whether you are an adult or a developing adolescent, stress is an inevitable feeling. The pressure and tension of our everyday lives as well as academic lives can be very difficult to endure. The big question everyone asks themselves at some point is: how? How is it possible to effectively deal with stress? While I am unable to give you an answer that is set in stone and works for everyone, I believe it is important to highlight some possible approaches. Both adults and teenagers need to realize that there are various methods, and each individual needs to find the one that works best for them personally. Perhaps one of the most popular solutions to stress is exercise. It has been proven that exercise has quite a beneficial effect on one’s mental and physical state as it allows a person to release stress through physical activities that they personally enjoy. This lets them “get away” from their problems, and in a way relax. Moreover, creating a priority schedule that divides up responsibilities in a timely manner, can help decrease stress as it is a systematic and well thought out approach. In addition to these effective methods, the use of relaxation techniques such as yoga, meditation or massages have been known to greatly help people with dealing with their stress. However, so far I have solely expressed the negative effects of stress, and it is key that I present how a certain level of stress can be beneficial. A right amount of stress is enough to push both students and adult workers to be productive, and not procrastinate. It can be beneficial as without a bit of stress, it may make one feel that their life is boring and not at all productive in areas of work, education, social life, etc. This sort of positive stress is called Eustress, and it is necessary as it helps one effectively accomplish goals and meet deadlines, hence providing motivation.
Ultimately, it is important to balance one’s stress, as without doing so, it can cause extremely negative effects to one’s mental state. Some of these negative effects may include high blood pressure, trouble with breathing, headaches, sleep problems, fatigue and chest pain. To avoid such problems, one needs to find a method that personally works for themeither from the few I mentioned above, or various other ones as there are multiple options. As an IB student, I try to maintain a healthy lifestyle and organized schedule in order to complete my assignments in time, and have time to do other activities as well. For future IB students out there, good luck, and don’t worrylearning how to deal with stress is a lesson you’ll be learning for a long time.

FEATURES Student Focus: Aron Adrian Daniel Music Is My Life I am Aron Adrian Daniel a SEK Budapest student form 11IB. Living in the present moment is what I enjoy the most but then I can say that as a profession I'm inclined to music. I know this because I don't see myself doing anything else in life. It is like my intuition yells with its entire power "DO MUSIIIC" so I am 100% positive that music is my present and my future. At this very moment I live in Budapest with my father who supports me a lot in all my activities and who gave me this opportunity to move here and transform myself into a very studious person. I never really liked school before SEK. I got a lot of help from my entire family to get where I am standing proud now, I'm talking about my record label Global Records, one of the most popular record labels in Europe. Working with a top producer from my country and eventually becoming friends with this person gave me a new power and desire for becoming a music producer. So besides school I spend a lot of time learning to make music on my PC. Back in Romania when I was 14 years old and that means 4 years ago, I was part of this contest called "Romanian's Got Talent" and people liked a lot what I did on that stage in the selection rounds. But after that, moving to the semifinals it seemed like the puberty just came at me all at once and my voice started to change so I was singing flat on the live show which led to being thrown out of it but still, it was a memorable experience. How can one explain seeing his Facebook account going from under 5 friend requests per day to let's say over 4000 a day. It was very hard for
me at that time to deal with that big amount of attention but now I am prepared for it. Soon the attention will come back over my next and first album that will be out next year. Aron Adrian Daniel 11IB

Parent Focus: Miss Zita Nagy International Education and Parent Involvement
Ebben számítok hosszú távú partnerként a SEK Oktatási központra.
Alumni Focus: Nini Molnar Founder & designer of Nini Molnar Bags Class of 2010
My name is Nini Molnar and I studied at SEK Budapest for 12 years, from 1998 until 2010. SEK was always more than a school for me it was my second home. I always loved to go there and I believe SEK contributed a lot to my career and to who I am today. After finishing my secondary studies at SEK I started my university career in London,
I finished my BA in Business Management at Regent’s College and my MA in International Marketing at King’s College. After graduating I started my own fashion label and next to it I started working in a luxury hotel in London as a Marketing Assistant. Meanwhile working, I realized my brand’s potential in the handbag market and my label started growing unexpectedly. Currently I am solely working on my brand – Nini Molnar Bags – and I am who I always wanted to be and I am who SEK always encouraged me to be. I am a young entrepreneur living my dreams. Interestingly enough I found the best leather manufacturer in the country – who was also my schoolmate at SEK Budapest. Nini Molnar 25, Founder and Designer of Nini Molnar Bags

CURRENT EVENTS AND NEWS IES Heads' Conference 2016 November 46, 2016
Last week I had the pleasure to attend the 10th IES Heads' Conference hosted by St John's International School together with representatives from IES Schools in South Africa, Florida, Panama, and the UK. It was an amazing experience to meet the staff members and visit the facilities of the school including the newly inaugurated indoor
swimming pool and later join the boarders at the Bonfire Night in the garden. At the conference we were informed about several new projects within the Institution including new learning spaces, a programming contest, and the introduction of robotics among our extracurricular activities. All the participants agreed that using new technology opens horizons in education. Therefore, IES is committed to providing both educators and students with the proper tools to help them achieve excellent academic results. I look forward to taking our school community through this technological journey and I hope you are all ready to join us!

CAS Activity: Visit to the Olajág Senior Home November 08, 2016
On November 8, 2016 we visited the Olajág home for the elderly with my class, 11 IB. The principal of the institution made a little tour for us and at the end we could ask what kind of social service we are able to do in collaboration with them. We got to know that there are almost unlimited possibilities of activities we can do with the elders. As far as I see now, I am going to play card games, teach swimming lessons, go for recreational walks, teach them about technology, and organize a karaoke event for them. In IB we can only graduate if we fulfill a social service requirement, in IB it is called CAS (Creativity, Activity, Service). I think it is not only beneficial for the ones we are helping, but for us as well. I think it makes us better people, because we help others, it widens our tolerance, and gives us enriching experiences. Just as an example, the principal told us that there were students who finished with all their social work but they continued to visit the institution, because they enjoyed it and made friends with the elderly people. I truly believe that we as students are not doing this only because it is obligatory, but because we start liking it. ‐ Dávid Hajas 11IB

First Round of the Geography OKTV Competition November 08, 2016
We are proud to share the news that this Tuesday November 8, 2016 our 11IB student Viktor Weisz participated in the first round of the OKTV (Országos Középiskolai Tanulmányi Verseny), the Hungarian National Secondary School Academic Competition. Viktor entered the prestigious and rigorous competition in the subject of Geography. This is a special honor for SEK Budapest as it is out first time participating in the Geography branch. Throughout the years our students have excelled in the OKTV. Adam Kovacs (class of 2010) won the 3rd place on national level in the English language OKTV, and in 2011 our alumna Angelica Cvetkovic placed 5th in the same subject at national level. We wish Viktor all the success in this competition!

New Smart Board Installation in the Grade 2B Classroom November, 2016
This week 2B got their new smart board installed in their classroom! It was a wonderful surprise after the long autumn break. Now their teachers will be able to incorporate online resources to enrich their lessons and make the learning process a lot more engaging! The students learned how to use the board properly and understood the importance of taking care of such a delicate classroom tool. ‐ Zhara Florez Tutor 2B
Seventh Grade Visit to the Petőfi Literary Museum October 26, 2016
A hetedik osztály idén októberben a Petőfi Irodalmi Múzeumot látogatta meg. A kirándulás során az osztály tagjai a névadóról, Petőfi Sándorról szóló tematikus kiállítást nézte végig múzeumpedagógiai irányítással. Megnézték a költő életének fontos állomásairól szóló kép és hanganyagot. Ezt követően csoportmunkában dolgoztak, válaszoltak a múzeumpedagógus kérdéseire illetve rövid bemutatót rögtönöztek az elhangzottak alapján. A múzeumi óra végén a diákok korabeli ruhákba, jelmezekbe öltözhettek.

A Mathematical Halloween October 28, 2016
It is always fun to connect a subject with a current event, for example math and Halloween. How great is it when older and younger students can learn from each other and work together. The fifth graders enjoyed explaining, teaching, and helping the first graders solve some spooky addition problems, as well as creating fun Halloween decorations. At the end, students, hand in hands went on some candy hunting making sure each student got the same amount. Thanks Miss Ági for having us. My students enjoyed being with the first graders so much!

OUR SEK PEERS AROUND THE WORLD
We were delighted to welcome Dr Jorge Segovia (President of IES) and Mr Andrew McEwen (Chairman of IES) to St John's on Friday to formally open the new St John's Swimming Pool. The pool was originally an outdoor only pool but has been completely refurbished and given a fully retracting telescopic roof meaning it can now be used all year round. This considerable investment reflects IES' commitment to St John's. We would like to thank IES for their continued support and we are delighted that Dr Segovia and Mr McEwen were here for the official opening.
On Tuesday, the U16 boys' Rugby squad travelled to Exeter to play a strong Bramdean Team. This was the return fixture asked for by the boys having narrowly lost at home to Bramdean by 14 points in their first game of the season back in mid September. At that point many of our boys had never played rugby before and were still learning the game and even the rules. Buoyed by a string of tough, physical, high tempo training sessions in the lead up, confidence was high on the minibus before the game. The boys were out to show their opponents the improvement they have made over the last 5 weeks since the sides last met. Pride was at stake! After a slow start by St John's, Bramdean took a 5 point lead early on and made things very difficult for our boys in the opening minutes. St John's defended their lines with strength and dedication but struggled to put regular phases of play together in attack. On the 10 minute mark, St John's equalised with a breakaway try and from this point never looked back. The team, made up of pupils from 9 different countries in only their 3rd ever game together, hit their straps and truly became a team. As their confidence grew, the boys ran in another 3 tries, conceding just 1 back in
the first half leaving the score 2010 at half time. In the second half, St John's stepped up the tempo further and reached another level, regularly putting 5, 6 and 7 phases of play together, drawing in the Bramdean players with tough contact at the breakdown and then sending the ball wide. The handling was crisp and quick, the support play was strong, anything in the loose was swept up and pounced on. St John's ran in tries at regular intervals throughout the second period and Bramdean could not compete but tried admirably. The final score was 5525 to St John's. This result demonstrated the boys' meteoric improvement, passion for the cause and team ethic, which personifies the SJIS spirit we see weekinweekout. While this was an immense team performance, the individual scorers were: Raul X 4, Alberto X 3, Diego, Saul, Pokin and Jack. Very well done to the whole squad.
