Melebarkan Sayap ejumlah perkembangan Perusahaan diulas dalam Berita Kita edisi Maret, antara lain kehadiran kita di sejumlah daerah baru untuk dapat melayani semakin banyak pelanggan. Salah satunya adalah pembukaan dua unit waralaba pada hari yang sama, yaitu Unit Produksi Beton Siap Pakai waralaba pertama dan gerai Solusi Rumah sekaligus Unit Produksi Produk Beton di dua lokasi berbeda di Bali. Di kawasan lain di Indonesia, Holcim terus melebarkan sayap di Sumatra dengan meresmikan dua silo dan unit pengepakan pada bulan Februari, hanya dua bulan setelah pembukaan silo pertama di Batam. Proyek pembangunan pabrik Tuban terus berjalan sesuai rencana. Sejalan dengan ekspansi usaha, identitas merek Perusahaan harus benar-benar dijaga dan janji kepada pelanggan dipenuhi sebaik mungkin. n this March edition of Berita Kita, we’re featuring several important developments to our business that will see us move into new markets and bring us to new customers in new places. One exciting development was the opening of two franchises on the same day; our first franchised concrete batching plant and first Solusi Rumah and Concrete Product Manufacturing Centre; in two separate locations in Bali. On the other side of the country, and equally importantly, we’re making sizable inroads into Sumatra with the two silos and packing houses opening in February, just two months after our first silo in Batam. Meanwhile, in East Java, construction at Tuban is progressing well. In such times of expansion, we have to be extra vigilant about protecting our brand identity and delivering on our promise to customers. You’ll find some ideas how to do this in this month’s magazine, along with other information on the centennial volunteering and the results of the Berita Kita readership survey. In short, there’s a lot going on, and you’re all very much a part of it.

ntuk pertama kalinya dua karya Holcim hadir di Bali setelah Februari lalu membuka waralaba Unit Produksi Beton Siap Pakai dan gerai Solusi Rumah yang pertama. Pak Yudhi dan puteranya, Leonard Liaw tampak berdiri di dalam Unit Produksi Beton Siap Pakai mereka diiringi penari Bali berpakaian tradisional warna-warni. Banyaknya spanduk dan bunga papan ucapan selamat di lokasi menunjukkan pengalaman mereka di sektor konstruksi. Pasangan ayah-anak ini telah 30 tahun lebih menekuni usaha sebagai pemasok bahan bangunan, maupun kontraktor dan, belum lama ini, usaha pasar swalayan bahan bangunan, dan mereka yakin akan prospek Unit Produksi Beton Siap Pakai dan produk inovatif lainnya dari Holcim. "Dua truk Mini-Mix sepertinya akan menghasilkan banyak keuntungan," kata Pak Yudhi. "Ini unit pertama di Bali, jadi kami dapat melayani pelanggan dengan produk yang tidak ditawarkan perusahaan lain. Pelanggan juga menyambut baik adanya fasilitas pembayaran dari CIMB Niaga, dan sekarang pun sudah banyak pesanan yang masuk."

or the first time, two unique Holcim products are now in Bali – with February seeing the launch of a franchised Ready Mix Concrete plant and the island’s first Solusi Rumah store. Nyoman Yudhiawan (Yudhi) and his son-in-law Leonard Liaw stand proudly inside their brand new batching plant, as Balinese dancers in colourful traditional costumes bustle behind them. The many banners from well wishers outside in the yard are a testament to the father and son’s experience in construction. With more than 30 years in the business as a construction materials supplier, contractor, and more recently in retail, the pair is excited about the new batching plant and the innovations that Holcim is offering. “The two Mini-Mix trucks are looking like a really good business,” Pak Yudhi says. “We’re the first to market here with such a product, which means we can reach where other people can’t go. Our customers also like the easy payment terms offered by CIMB Niaga and we’re already getting a substantial amount of orders.”

Selain truk Mini-Mix, mereka mengoperasikan pula enam truk besar untuk memenuhi kebutuhan konsumen di Denpasar, Kuta, Gianyar dan Nusa Dua. Leonard juga siap memasok sejumlah proyek pembangunan prasarana skala besar di wilayahnya. "Potensi pembangunan di Bali sangat besar," kata Derek Williamson, CEO Holcim Beton, "dan kami akan membantu keluarga Pak Yudhi menjalankan usaha ini." Potensi yang sama juga terlihat di Gapura, dekat daerah peristirahatan mewah, Ubud, dan di sana belum lama ini diresmikan gerai Solusi Rumah dan Unit Produksi Produk Beton atau CPM pertama di Bali. Pada acara peresmian CPM, tampak Made Aryawan, pengusaha berusia 39 tahun yang biasa di panggil Kadek, menyambut kedatangan pelanggan di gerai Solusi Rumah miliknya yang semula adalah toko bahan bangunan biasa namun ramai pembeli. Kadek selama ini banyak membangun rumah untuk warga asing kelas atas di wilayah Ubud, dan Solusi Rumah ia yakini akan menarik lebih banyak pelanggan. "Banyak teman ingin membangun rumah berkualitas yang aman dengan biaya terjangkau, tapi baru sekarang keinginan mereka bisa terwujud," katanya kepada Berita Kita, sambil mengajak para tamu berkeliling CPM untuk melihat 10 karyawannya membuat bata beton.
The third franchise to operate in Indonesia, the batching plant can produce up to 60m3/hour of ready-mixed concrete. With six full-size trucks along with the Mini-Mix units, Leonard says he expects to serve markets in Denpasar, Kuta, Gianyar, and Nusa Dua. He’s also ready to supply several large infrastructure projects in the area. “There’s certainly a lot of potential for development on Bali,” says Derek Williamson, Holcim Beton CEO, “and we’ll work closely with Pak Yudhi’s family to make this business a success.” Potential was also on the minds of people in Gapura, near the luxurious mountain retreat of Ubud, where the island’s first Solusi Rumah and CPM was launched. Welcoming his existing customers at the CPM launch, 39-yearold Made Aryawan, nicknamed Kadek, has converted a thriving building supplies shop into a Solusi Rumah. With a history of helping wealthy expatriates build houses in the Ubud area, Kadek says Solusi Rumah will broaden his market. “A lot of my friends want to build a good quality and affordable house in Bali, but they couldn’t until now,” he tells Berita Kita as he ushers his visitors around the CPM site where 10 staff demonstrate how to make bataton blocks. “People on Bali are only just realising how efficient Solusi Rumah materials are. This is the way forward: I strongly believe that.”

Dalam sambutannya, CEO Holcim Indonesia, Eamon Ginley, mengamini pendapat Kadek. Indonesia masih membutuhkan sekitar 8 juta unit rumah murah, dan angkanya terus bertambah kira-kira 5.000 setiap bulan, jelas Eamon. "Itulah sebabnya saya dan rekan-rekan amat bangga karena dapat membantu memecahkan masalah tadi berkat solusi pembangunan rumah dengan biaya terjangkau yang ditawarkan melalui gerai Solusi Rumah," ujarnya. Turut hadir dalam upacara itu Tamara Kaida, warga Kanada yang tinggal di Candu, tidak jauh dari sana. Lima tahun lalu Kadek membantunya dan suami membangun rumah impian, jelasnya. Apa ia tertarik dengan rumah produk Solusi Rumah? "Bukan untuk kami," katanya. "Tapi mungkin untuk karyawan kami, dan akan kami bantu dia."
Speaking at the launch, Holcim Indonesia CEO Eamon Ginley echoed Kadek’s sentiments. Currently, Indonesia’s housing market lacks around 8 million low-cost homes with this number increasing by an estimated 5,000 houses every month, Eamon said. “For this reason, my colleagues and I are really proud of Solusi Rumah, because by making housing affordable, we’re helping to solve this problem,” he said. Tamara Kaida, an expatriate living in nearby Candu, was also at the launch. Kadek had helped her and her husband build their dream house five years ago, she said. Was she interested in a Solusi Rumah house? “Not for us,” she said. “But my employee might be, and we might help her build one.”

ahyono, Electrician di Pabrik Cilacap, berhasil membawa pulang hadiah beasiswa pendidikan senilai Rp 20 juta setelah namanya keluar bulan lalu sebagai pemenang utama kompetisi "Push & Pull" 2011.
ahyono, a Cilacap Plant Electrician, took home a Rp 20 million educational scholarship when his name was drawn as the winner of 2011’s “Push & Pull” competition last month.
Dari 24 nama finalis, nama Pak Wahyonolah yang ditarik CEO Holcim, Eamon Ginley, pada tanggal 16 Februari. Masing-masing finalis juga menerima hadiah uang Rp 1 juta setelah menjadi juara dalam kompetisi kuartalan tahun 2011.
Wahyono’s name came from a list of 24 finalists and was picked by Holcim CEO Eamon Ginley on February 16. Finalists had already received Rp 1 million each in prizes as winners of the year’s quarterly competitions.
Staf Holcim yang mendaftar menjadi peserta Push & Pull tercatat sebanyak 1.386 orang, dan dalam kompetisi ini mereka secara rutin mencari potensi bahaya yang muncul di tempat kerja sekaligus melaporkan dan mencari solusinya. Peserta juga mendapat nilai setiap kali menghadiri Safety Observation Tour dan Safety Communication Meeting; menjalankan inspeksi sesuai rencana; melaporkan kecelakaan atau kejadian yang nyaris menimbulkan kecelakaan; membuat evaluasi risiko pribadi; dan mematuhi aturan keselamatan kerja. Dalam menentukan pemenang, juri memperhatikan kinerja K3 di departemen yang bersangkutan.
A total of 1,386 Holcim staff entered Push & Pull in 2011, which awards prizes for the regular identifying, reporting and solving of potential hazards in the workplace. Contestants are also given marks for attendance of Safety Observation Tours and Safety Communication Meetings; carrying out planned inspections; the reporting of accidents or near misses; the completion of personal risk assessments, and compliance to safety rules. Judges take into consideration the safety record of a department when awarding prizes.

etika matahari tidak nampak lagi di kaki langit, Ramiro Velasco menuju lahan luas dan datar. Di beberapa lokasi telah terpasang sarana penerangan dan kegiatan terus berlangsung hingga malam.
Manajer proyek Tuban ini menjelaskan pekerjaan yang tengah berlangsung di sejumlah titik. "Di sini, di area tempat berdirinya jalur produksi nanti, kami dirikan kantor darurat. Di sana, Polysius sedang mengerjakan pondasi dan bagian dasar bangunan utama - tanur, preheater tower, mill dan silo," jelas Velasco. "Karena tanahnya lunak, pondasi harus dari tiang pancang beton. Pengerjaannya lebih sulit dibanding pemasangan pondasi di tanah padat." Pemancangan tiang pondasi rampung pada bulan Desember, dan menghabiskan sekitar 17.500 meter kubik beton. Pembangunan fasilitas pendukung seperti jalan di dalam lokasi, tembok pembatas dan saluran air masih terus berlangsung. Sementara itu di luar pabrik, tim tengah menyiapkan lahan untuk pembangunan dermaga, dan saat ini proses pengerukan ditunda dulu karena saat ini masih musim hujan. Dermaga ini nantinya untuk memudahkan tongkang pengangkut bahan baku pokok pembuatan semen - batubara dan gipsum merapat ke pelabuhan. Pekerjaan di area produksi sering kali berlangsung siang-malam mengingat peralatan dan mesin

baru mulai berdatangan. Jalan di kawasan tambang sedang diratakan agar dapat dilalui truk bak ukuran besar yang akan mengangkut batu gamping. "Pabrik sudah mulai nampak wujudnya," kata Ramiro di dekat gerbang masuk yang baru berdiri. "Tahap pertama, yakni cement mill dan packing plant, mudah-mudahan selesai dibangun triwulan kedua 2013." Pabrik sendiri dijadwalkan mulai beroperasi pada kuartal terakhir 2013 setelah fasilitas produksi klinker rampung. Jumlah pekerja di lokasi proyek mencapai 900 orang, dan 544 di antaranya warga setempat yang diangkat Holcim dan kontraktor lokal untuk menangani berbagai pekerjaan, mulai dari menjaga keamanan hingga membangun sarana-prasarana. Sesuai ketentuan baru, kontraktor diwajibkan untuk melatih dan mempekerjakan sebagian warga setempat sebelum pekerjaan dimulai. “Semua ini tidaklah mudah, tapi kita sudah hampir menyelesaikannya,” kata Ramiro.

he sun has already sunk below the horizon when Ramiro Velasco strides out in his work boots onto a vast, flattened plain, which is now lit up in sections as work continues into the night.
Holcim Tuban’s project manager gestures to areas of construction and explains the work taking place. “Here, in the production line area, we’ve erected the temporary offices. Over there, Polysiusis now working on the foundations and bases of the main structures – the kiln, pre-heater tower, the mills, and silos,” Velasco says. “The ground is soft, we’ve had to use concrete bore piles for the foundations, which is a little more tricky than building into bedrock.” Piling was completed in December and about 17,500 cubic meters of concrete has already been laid, while supporting civil infrastructure like paved roads inside the plant, security walls, and drainage are well underway. Outside the plant, the land for the jetty has been prepared and dredging is on hold due to the rainy season. The jetty will ensure barges will be able to bring in the coal and gypsum – key cement raw materials.
In the production area, work now often goes on around the clock as new equipment and machinery is brought to the site. Meanwhile, at the quarry site, work is being done to level roads to prepare them for the large dump trucks that will eventually help to extract limestone. “It’s all coming together now,” Ramiro says as he stands by the newly built entrance gate. “We hope to finish the first stage, the cement mill and packing plant, in the second quarter of 2013.” The clinker plant is scheduled to begin operations in the final quarter of 2013 after clinker production facilities are completed. Of the 900 people now engaged on site, Holcim and local contractors have been able to create around 544 local jobs, ranging from security duties to civil works. New policies mean future contractors will be required to train and employ local people ahead of commencing an assignment. “It hasn’t always been easy, but we’re on track to on-time completion,” Ramiro says.

Menurut Branding Coordinator, Andika Ratna, situs dapat diakses melalui telepon selular, dan kini tengah diperkenalkan ke semua departemen. "Dari temuan brand audit tahun lalu kami simpulkan bahwa karyawan Holcim belum paham benar cara menggunakan logo dan warna yang tepat, serta tempat pemesanan barang promosi resmi."
"Mudah-mudahan situs ini membuat semua karyawan lebih paham dan mengikuti ketentuan seputar branding. Proses pembelian barang kini juga lebih mudah. Dengan bantuan signage database atau fitur database papan nama, departemen dapat melakukan pengecekan rutin kualitas papan nama sekaligus pemeliharaannya," jelas Andika. Di bagian Branding Help Desk dapat dilihat informasi tentang perangkat dan panduan branding untuk memudahkan manajer melihat spesifikasi desain yang benar, termasuk ukuran, bahan, warna dan jenis huruf. rdering merchandise with compliant Holcim branding should now be a breeze for staff with the creation of a new website.
Launched on March 26, the website www.brandingbox.co features a branding help desk, as well as a merchandise section. A signage database will soon be added. Branding Coordinator Andika Ratna said the website, which can be accessed via mobile phones, is being promoted across all departments. “One of the key findings from last year’s brand audit was that Holcim employees need to understand how to use our logo correctly, to use our correct colours, and know where to order official merchandise.” “Hopefully this website will increase employee awareness about Holcim branding and compliance and make it easier for them to buy merchandise. The signage database will help departments make regular checks on sign quality and maintenance,” Andika said. The branding help desk area of the site provides information on branding tools and guidelines, so that managers can easily see correct design specifications, including dimensions, materials, colours and fonts. The merchandise section also functions as an online shop, stocked with items that meet Holcim’s specifications. Holcim employees can easily browse various products, check availability and arrange payment. External users of the site, generally Holcim customers and business partners, can also order merchandise through Customer Care. A testimonial section will let Holcim staff help the branding team monitor all branded items, including signs, to ensure they comply, are made to correct specifications, and are properly maintained. In the past, some employees ordered Holcim promotional items and signs through third-party contractors unaware of exact specifications, resulting in incorrectly branded items. All promotional garments must now be ordered through the website, while branches requiring signs will be directed to approved suppliers, so that signs meets one standard. Coki Wicaksono, Brand Support and Compliance Manager, stressed the website was much simpler to use than ordering over the phone. “The website is very straightforward and clear. Not only that, you can guarantee that everything you order will be created to company specifications. It’s also an easy way to pay. ”

Continuing the Cycle
G
eocycle memperoleh kontrak baru menyusul kunjungannya ke unit kerja perusahaan multinasional raksasa minyak dan gas Chevron di provinsi Riau baru-baru ini. Kemitraan Geocycle-Chevron diperpanjang dengan ditandatanganinya kontrak dua tahun untuk pengelolaan limbah di sejumlah unit operasional perusahaan di Riau. PT Chevron Pacific Indonesia, produsen minyak mentah terbesar di Indonesia, berharap Geocycle dapat membantu mereka menangani kegiatan pembuangan limbah dengan baik sesuai ketentuan lingkungan yang berlaku. Kerja sama sebelumnya dengan Geocycle berlangsung sepanjang tahun 2011. Dalam perjanjian baru disebutkan bahwa Geocycle wajib mengumpulkan, mengangkut dan membuang dengan aman 18 jenis limbah. Sekitar 56% limbah tersebut berupa serbuk semen dari sumur pengeboran minyak dan gas.

Limbah akan didaur ulang dan dijadikan pengganti bahan baku pembuatan semen. Terak oli termasuk salah satu jenis limbah lain yang akan diolah di tanur milik Holcim. Pada 28 Februari berlangsung pertemuan antara tiga staf Geocycle dengan staf lingkungan hidup Chevron untuk membahas metode pembuangan limbah yang aman dan tuntas. Pertemuan berlangsung di kantor Chevron di Rumbai yang mengawasi unit kerja di wilayah selatan. Hari berikutnya Geocycle mengadakan presentasi serupa di kantor Chevron di Dumai, 150km dari Rumbai, yang mengelola kegiatan operasional di wilayah utara Riau. Di dalam kedua pertemuan dibahas pula pasal-pasal dalam kontrak, termasuk tanggung jawab dan lingkup tugas Geocycle dan solusi penanganan limbah yang diinginkan Chevron. recent trip by Geocycle to Chevron’s Riau operations marks the start of an important new contract with the oil and gas giant.
Geocycle has extended its partnership with Chevron by signing a twoyear contract to provide additional waste management solutions to the multinational at its operations in Riau. PT Chevron Pacific Indonesia, the country’s largest producer of crude oil, expects Geocycle’s expertise will further enhance its waste disposal in compliance with environmental regulations. The previous partnership with Geocycle had run during 2011.
Under the new agreement, Geocycle will collect, transport and safely dispose of 18 different types of waste. About 56 percent of the waste will be cement cuttings, from oil and gas drilling wells. This will be recycled as a substitute cement raw material. Other types of waste include oil sludge, which will be co-processed in Holcim kilns. On February 28, three Geocycle representatives met with members of Chevron’s environmental staff at the company’s Rumbai office, which oversees southern operations, to outline Geocycle’s methods of safely and cleanly disposing of waste. The following day, a similar presentation was made some 150 km away at Chevron’s Dumai office, which oversees northern operations.
The meetings promoted details of the new contract, including Geocycle’s responsibilities and scope of work, as well as Chevron’s waste solution needs. Geocycle will first have to survey about 30 waste collection locations, including some in remote areas, spread across Chevron’s 1,800 km2 production sharing contract sites in Riau. A schedule will then be drawn up for trucks and personnel to collect the waste. Dari 2.567 karyawan, ada cukup banyak, yaitu sekitar 13% atau 325 orang yang mengembalikan kuesioner. Kami sampaikan terima kasih kepada semua pembaca yang telah meluangkan waktu untuk mengikuti survei ini. Hasilnya cukup menggembirakan. Hampir semua responden suka dengan desain Berita Kita, dan bagi mereka, berita yang dimuat akurat, bermanfaat dan masih hangat. Yang menarik, hampir 90% responden setuju panjang artikel dan jumlah halaman dalam majalah ditambah. Sekitar 95% responden rutin membaca Berita Kita, dan mengingat berita yang disajikan berguna, mereka menganggap majalah ini wahana efektif untuk menyampaikan informasi kepada karyawan.
Selain itu ada beberapa hal yang perlu diperbaiki. Menurut sebagian staf (36%) pengiriman majalah sudah cukup atau masih belum bagus, dan 37% menyarankan agar kami menyajikan berita yang lebih hangat. Seputar pertanyaan dibutuhkan atau tidaknya Berita Kita versi digital, jawaban responden sangat beragam. Kira-kira sepertiga pembaca tidak punya atau hanya punya waktu sedikit untuk membaca berita online, apalagi untuk membaca berita melalui telepon selular, dan mereka tidak akan membaca majalah ini jika diterbitkan versi digitalnya. Kurang dari dua pertiga pembaca sangat mungkin atau mungkin membaca email atau terbitan digital. In keeping with this spirit, in December, Berita Kita sent out a readership survey. We wanted to find out what you thought about the magazine’s length and accuracy, and to see how much people read the news on their mobile phone or the Internet to measure demand for digital versions. What we found was encouraging. A great majority of the respondents said they liked Berita Kita’s design, and feel the reports are accurate, timely and useful. Interestingly, nearly 90 percent of respondents were in favour of increasing the length of articles and the number of pages of the magazine.
Results were most divergent when it came to demand for digital versions of Berita Kita. It was evident that about one-third of readers have no or very little time to view news online, let alone on their mobile phone, and this segment of readers said they would not read a digital version of this publication. Just under two thirds of readers said they very probably or probably would read an email or digital version.
About 95 percent of respondents are regular readers of Berita Kita, which they regard as an effective information channel for employees because of its useful news. There were some potential areas for improvement too. A significant minority of of staff (36 percent) rated the

egiatan sosial terbaru yang ditangani staf relawan dalam rangka peringatan seabad kelompok usaha Holcim adalah proyek pembuatan jalan dari bata beton di desa Anggadita.
Dalam kegiatan sukarela yang kedua tahun ini, sekitar 20 staf Holcim terjun langsung membantu warga Anggadita memasang bata beton pada jalan sepanjang 120 meter di dua RT yang berbatasan dengan kawasan industri dan persawahan warga. Pengerjaan jalan dilaksanakan pada tanggal 23 Februari dengan memanfaatkan bahan yang diproduksi warga dalam proyek daur ulang binaan Holcim di dekat Unit Produksi Beton Siap Pakai Karawang. Untuk proyek daur ulang tersebut Perusahaan mengerahkan sekaligus melatih warga desa pengangguran untuk membuat bata beton jalan berbahan beton jadi sisa dari truk semen. Rombongan sukarelawan datang pagi-pagi untuk memuat 5.000 bata ke atas truk sebelum berangkat ke tempat pembangunan jalan. Dua regu relawan bekerja di bawah terik matahari. Sekitar tengah hari sebagian besar jalan sudah jadi, dan seluruh ruas jalan selesai dikerjakan hari berikutnya. Ini salah satu bentuk kerja gotong-royong perbaikan prasarana di daerah, jelas Kepala Desa Anggadita, Ali Nuzirwan. Ia bersyukur karena staf Holcim bersedia meluangkan waktu dan terjun membantu warga. Warga desa sendiri senang karena sebelumnya hanya ada jalan tanah yang bergelombang dan jika hujan berubah jadi kubangan lumpur. Kini jalan di desa mereka aman untuk anak-anak bersepeda dan sepeda motor tidak cepat rusak, jelas Ali. Bagi staf, meski harus berpanas-panasan, kerja ini ada manfaatnya. "Saya menikmati perubahan suasana," kata Business Control and Support Superintendent, Tutuk Arintoko. "Semua personil Holcim harus ikut setidak-tidaknya sekali dalam proyek kemasyarakatan semacam ini agar mereka tahu rasanya bergotong-royong. Dengan ikut serta dalam kegiatan, semua staf Holcim menunjukkan kepedulian mereka." Telesales and Websales Coordinator, Magdalena Dewi, awalnya enggan bekerja saat udara panas terik. "Mulanya terasa sulit karena hari benar-benar panas, tapi setelah dimulai, pekerjaan berjalan sangat lancar." Warga desa masih terus membuat bata beton jalan untuk dijual. "Kami ingin ini bisa menjadi sumber penghasilan warga selama mungkin," jelas Wayan Budhi Gunadi, RMX Senior Community Relations Officer, yang mengawasi jalannya proyek. "Hasilnya tentu akan dirasakan sendiri oleh masyarakat setempat."
A
newly paved road for residents in Anggadita village is the result of the latest volunteering work carried out by staff to mark the Holcim Group’s centennial celebrations.
In the second community volunteering event this year, 20 Holcim staff joined forces with Anggadita residents to help pave 120 meters of road in two Karawang, West Java, neighbourhood units, where rice paddies adjoin a major industrial estate. Carried out on February 23, the work builds on an existing Holcim-run community recycling project at the nearby Karawang Batching Plant. The project recruits and trains unemployed villagers to make paving blocks with ready mix, which has been hosed out of returning trucks. Volunteers arrived early to load 5,000 of the blocks onto trucks before heading to the worksite. Two teams were formed and began paving under the blazing sun. By mid-afternoon most of the road had been completed and the job was finished the following day. The project was a good example of gotong royong, or mutual assistance, to improve local infrastructure, said Anggadita Village Head Ali Nuzirwan, who praised Holcim staff for volunteering their time. Residents were delighted with the result, as the old dirt road was bumpy and turned to mud when it rained. Now the road was safe for children to cycle on and would also reduce wear on motorcycles, Ali said. Staff, meanwhile, described the work as hot but rewarding. “It was a refreshing change from the office,” said Business Control and Support Superintendent Tutuk Arintoko. “Everybody from Holcim should be involved in these community projects at least once, to experience the feeling of working together with the people. This way, all Holcim staff will care.” Telesales and Websales Coordinator Magdalena Dewi soon overcame her trepidation about working under the sun. “At first it seemed difficult because the weather was so hot, but once I started with my friends, I found it was very easy.” Villagers are continuing to produce paving blocks and are beginning to sell them. “We aim for this to become a sustainable source of employment,” enthused Wayan Budhi Gunadi, RMX Senior Community Relations Officer, who is overseeing the project. “In this way, it will bring real benefits to the local community.”

The Promise of Perawang and Dumai

eberadaan Holcim di Sumatera kian diperhitungkan setelah perusahaan membuka silo dan fasilitas pengepakan baru di Perawang dan Dumai. Hal ini dipertegas dengan dukungan penuh dari masyarakat setempat.
Peresmian unit Perawang pada tanggal 21 Februari disusul dengan pembukaan silo baru di Dumai sehari kemudian. Masing-masing silo mampu menampung 2.000 ton semen sedangkan unit pengepakan berkapasitas 120 ton perjam. Semua unit sudah beroperasi memasok produk ke wilayah sekitar dan Pekanbaru, Minas, Kandis dan Perawang. Menurut Civil Engineering Superintendent, Jatmiko Kurniawan, penanggung jawab proyek pembangunan, kedua silo didesain khusus untuk menekan dampak terhadap lingkungan setempat. "Silo dilengkapi pengontrol untuk menjaga agar debu dari fasilitas kami tidak mencemari lingkungan, dan kami juga menanam pohon serta tanaman perdu di sekeliling lahan silo," jelas Jatmiko. Acara peresmian kedua silo masing-masing dihadiri Bupati Siak, Syamsuar, dan Walikota Dumai, Khairul Anwar. "Pengoperasian kedua unit baru ini memperkuat jaringan

"Selama proyek berjalan, kami mempekerjakan sekitar 30 hingga 40 warga setempat yang ikut membangun pagar, drainase, bangunan kantor dan pos penjagaan, serta menjaga keamanan di lokasi. Warga juga diangkat menjadi karyawan di unit pengepakan di silo." Masalah besar bagi tim konstruksi adalah kurangnya sarana akomodasi di Perawang sehingga mereka terpaksa menyewa rumah penduduk agar silo rampung dalam waktu 10 bulan. "Proyek harus berjalan sesuai jadwal dan kami berhasil mencapai target!" katanya.

olcim latest cement silos and packing plants in Perawang and Dumai will further expand the company’s presence in Sumatra. They also have the full support of the local community.
The Perawang facility was inaugurated on February 21 with a silo opening in Dumai a day later. Each silo can store 2,000 tons and the packing plants have a capacity of 120 tons per hour. They’re now up and running, and supplying cement to their local areas as well as Pekanbaru, Minas, Kandis and Perawang. Civil Engineering Superintendent Jatmiko Kurniawan, who oversaw the construction of both silos, said their design was meant to minimize the impact on the communities they are located in. "The silos are equipped with dust control equipment to ensure no pollution comes from our site, and we’ve also planted trees and bushes around site perimeters,” Jatmiko said. The opening of the silos were attended by Siak Regent Syamsuar and Dumai Mayor Khairul Anwar, respectively. "The operation of the two new silos enhances our facilities in Sumatra. We want to provide the best service to the community and this is how we get closer to our customers," Jatmiko said at the Perawang launch. Regent Syamsuar said Holcim’s presence in Perawang would promote local industry and environmental sustainability. "With Holcim, we hope to further the growth of Siak and attract other investors to come into partnerships with the local government.” Local residents supported the project in Dumai because it generated employment, Jatmiko said. “During the construction, about 30 to 40 locals worked in jobs such as fencing, drainage, building the office and gatehouse, and providing security. Locals are also permanently employed at the silo’s packing plant.” Jatmiko said the construction team’s main challenge had been Perawang’s lack of accommodation options, so local houses were rented to ensure the silo was completed within 10 months. “The most important thing was for the project to run to schedule, and we made it!” he said.

Berita Kita: Bagaimana ceritanya Anda sampai bekerja di Holcim Indonesia?
Berita Kita: So how did you end up working for Holcim?
Anna Soenardi: Pertengahan lalu ada agen pencari tenaga manajer yang menghubungi saya soal lowongan ini dan persyaratannya. Saya awalnya tidak begitu tertarik karena saat itu masih bekerja di Coca-Cola dan harus menangani banyak proyek. Tapi setelah bicara dengan orang-orang di Holcim dan tahu banyak tentang perusahaan ini, saya mulai tertarik. Akhirnya saya putuska untuk menerima tawaran mereka karena beberapa alasan.
Anna Soenardi: I was approached by a headhunter in the middle of last year and he told me the requirements for the position. Initially, to be frank, I wasn’t so interested because I was enjoying my work with Coca-Cola – I had a lot of projects that I was working on. But after talking to people from Holcim,and finding out about the company, I became more and more interested. In the end I joined for several different reasons.
BK: Apakah alasan Anda?
BK: What were your reasons?
AS: Saya tidak banyak tahu tentang industri semen danbahan bangunan, dan saya senang belajar sesuatu yang baru. Selain itu saham Holcim tercatat di Bursa Efek Indonesia, dan ini juga baru buat saya, jadi saya berkesempatan belajar kebijakan dan prosedur baru terkait perusahaan terbuka, serta bertemu dengan para pemangku kepentingan yang tentunya akan membantu saya meningkatkan profesionalisme kerja.
AS: Working in cement and building supplies was a new industry for me and l like learning about new things. Not only that, Holcim is listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange, again this is new for me, it means I will learn new policies and procedures related to listed companies and I’ll meet new stakeholders, which will develop me professionally.
Di Holcim juga ada peluang untuk menerapkan "manajemen perubahan" yang pernah saya pelajari dan jalankan di kantor lama. Untuk itu kita harus punya berpikir dan percaya bahwa apapun bisa dilakukan. Saya juga yakin bahwa kita harus punya tujuan dan visi pribadi. Dalam buku "The Secret" karya Rhonda Byrne disebutkan bahwa kita bisa berhasil dan meraih apapun dalam hidup jika kita punya visi dan bekerja keras mewujudkannya. BK: Perubahan seperti apa yang akan Anda terapkan dalam Corporate Communications? AS: Ketika saya masuk, Holcim baru saja meraih penghargaan sebagai Perusahaan yang paling dikagumi dari Majalah Fortune Indonesia. Ini jelas menunjukkan bahwa kita sudah di jalan yang benar, namun selalu ada peluang untuk melakukan perbaikan. Saya ingin jadi "perekat" semua bagian di Holcim dan juga "bicara mewakili Perusahaan" dengan pihak luar. Semua bentuk komunikasi harus terintegrasi dan disampaikan terus-menerus, di dalam maupun ke luar, pada saat dan dengan cara yang tepat, demi menjaga citra dan nama baik perusahaan. BK: Apa sukses menurut Anda?
For me, Holcim also presented an opportunity to implement “change management” a form of management I’ve studied and practiced in my previous work. It all starts with having the right mindset, a belief that anything is possible. I also believe in having a personal goal or vision. In The Secret by Rhonda Byrne, it says that you can succeed and achieve anything in life if you have a vision and work hard for it. BK: How do you see Corporate Communications changing under your management? AS: I think it’s important to note that when I was hired, Holcim had just won a "most admired company award" from Fortune Indonesia Magazine. So clearly we’re on the right track, but there’s always more to be done. I want to be the “glue”in Holcim internally and become the corporate speaker externally. All messages should be integrated and communicated consistently – internally and externally – in a timely, accurate manner in order to protect the image and reputation of our company. BK: How do you define success? AS: Success to me is making a positive difference.

Tuban Launches Biodiversity Study
antan Menteri Negara Lingkungan Hidup, Emil Salim, pada bulan Februari berkunjung ke Tuban dalam rangka peresmian program kajian keanekaragaman hayati yang diselenggarakan Holcim dan Kantor Dinas Lingkungan Hidup Tuban. Beliau yang kini menjabat sebagai Penasehat khusus Presiden Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono untuk bidang lingkungan hidup melepas merpati putih sebagai tanda dimulainya kerja sama ini. Program akan mencakup pemetaan flora, fauna dan gua di area penambangan batu gamping di Tuban. Pak Emil didampingi Wakil Bupati Tuban, Noor Nahar Hussein; Director of Manufacturing, Lilik Unggul Raharjo; dan Plant Manager Tuban, Sidik Darusulistyo.

ormer environment minister Emil Salim visited Tuban in February to mark the beginning of a biodiversity study being carried out between Holcim and the Tuban Environmental Department. The ex-minister who is now a special environmental advisor to President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono’s government, released a white dove to symbolize the start of the partnership, which will map flora, fauna and caves in Tuban’s limestone quarry area. Pak Emil was accompanied by Tuban Deputy Regent Noor Nahar Hussein, Director of Manufacturing Lilik Unggul Raharjo, and Tuban Plant Manager Sidik Darusulistyo.
