ADAM MICHNA Z OTRADOVIC (1600–1676) One of the first famous Czech composers was a Czech aristocrat, poet, hymn writer, organist and choir leader. Many of his compositions were later printed and published by Prague Jesuits. He composed sacred music and songs, vocal instrumental music to his own lyrics. The best known is a carol ChRISTMAS NIGHT (Tichá noc published also under the name Chtíc, aby spal)
JAKUB JAN RYBA (1770–1836) Czech teacher and composer of classical music. His most famous work is Czech Christmas Mass HEY MASTER which is performed regularly in many world countries.
BEDŘICH SMETANA (1824–1884) He is regarded the father of Czech music. He is best known for his opera THE BARTERED BRIDE, a symphonic cycle MY FATHERLAND and First String Quartet FROM MY LIFE. He became completely deaf but his reputation raised rapidly and today he is considered to be one of the most significant Czech composers.

ANTONÍN DVOŘÁK (1841–1904) following the ideas of Bedřich Smetana he started with collection of folk music of Moravia and Bohemia. His best known works are his NEW WORLD SYMPHONY, THE AMERICAN STRING QUARTET, the opera RUSALKA, the seventh HUMORESQUE and the song SONGS MY MOTHER TAUGHT ME. He composed operas , choral music, chamber music, concerti, vocal music. Dvořák performed in London Royal Philharmony, he was a director of the National Conservatoryof Music in New York and here in 1893 he was commissioned by the New York Philharmonic to write Symphony N9 From the New World.
His daughter Otilie married his talentive student, the composer Josef Suk. Dvořák died from a stroke in 1904.

LEOŠ JANÁČEK (1854–1928) was a Czech composer, musical theorist, folklorist, publicist and a teacher. He became a creator of original music with the features of Moravian and Slavic folk music. The fame brought him JENŮFA – a Moravian nation opera. Janáček often visited Luhačovice where he was inspired by his new love for writing his another opera DESTINY. He was deeply inspired by folklore and Russian music.
His next operas are: THE CUNNING LITTLE VIXEN, THE MACROPULOS AFFAIR OR FROM THE HOUSE FROM THE DEATH.

BOHUSLAV MARTINŮ (1890–1959) Czech composer of modern classical music. He wrote 6 symphonies, 15 operas, 14 ballets, worked as a violinist of Czech philharmonic orchestra. He experimented with new styles (expresionism) and adopted jazz features. He used also folk melodies, for instance in his THE OPENING OF THE WELLS. Among his operas belong JULIETTE and THE GREEK PASSION. In 1941 he emigrated to the USA and died in 1959 in Switzerland.
JAROSLAV JEŽEK (1906–1942) A Czech composer, pianist and conductor, jazz writer and film music producer. During the Nazi occupation he lived in exile in New York and worked as a piano teacher and choirmaster there. His name is connected with Voskovec and Werich, the leaders of Osvobozené divadlo whom he composed a lot of revue plays, songs and dances for.

JIŘÍ BĚLOHLÁVEK (*1946) One of the most respected conductors in the world. He worked for Czech Philharmonic and was a chief conductor of Prague Symphony Orchestra. He´s a chairman of the Prague Spring International Music Festival. He has also international career – from 1995 to 2000 he became a principal of the BBC Symphony Orchestra. In 2012 he was awarded an honorary CBE for services to music (commander of the most excellent order of the British Empire).
