BOAT, BOATING ACCESSORIES, WATER SPORTS AND CARAVANS SHOW

INTRODUCTION: In the second half of April, the fifth edition of the Prague boat show, BOATS ON THE WATER & CARAVANS IN PRAGUE 2013, opened the boating season for all lovers of boats, water, caravans and water sports. The project was initiated based on requests from boat manufacturers and dealers, members of APL, with the aim of promoting boating in the Czech Republic. The concept of the show had been inspired by similar exhibitions in Genoa, Barcelona, Cannes, Helsinki and Hamburg. The concept of this show is unique both in the Czech Republic and Central Europe, especially due to the opportunity for participants to showcase boats within an exhibition area located both on the embankment and on the Vltava River itself in the very centre of Prague. Between 17 and 21 April, more than one hundred and twenty exhibitors not only from the Czech Republic but also Croatia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Hungary, Poland, Austria and Spain presented themselves in the area between the Železniční and Palacký bridges. Visitors had the opportunity to see the latest boat models, ranging from small sports boats to large marine sailboats and luxurious motor yachts. Due to the growing interest from exhibitors, the organizer extended the exhibition area on the Rašín Embankment by adding the Smíchov beach, located on the opposite riverbank. Visitors were excited about being able to travel between the two riverbanks by ferries that operated free of charge. Another attraction was the opportunity not to only view the boats displayed but also try some of them out.

ACCOMPANYING PROGRAMME, hosted by Josef Melen Hosted boat shows Every day, hosted boat shows took place as part of the accompanying programme in the entrance area of the exhibition premises, near the Mercedes-Benz gate. The boats were presented to visitors directly on the Vltava River. In addition to a visual display, details of each boat were provided, focusing on the technical parameters, prices, the supplier and possible use.

TORNADO – an extreme catamaran race Once again this year, viewers could watch two Tornado races during the exhibition. It was a great show for visitors: Complete racing crews took part in the two extreme catamaran races, showing thrilling battles. David Křížek won the Broker Business Regatta with Roman Hušek and then also the Prague Catamaran Speed Regatta with Zdeněk Adam. The winners participated in both races in the colours of Broker Consulting. The second place was taken by UNIQA and the third again by Broker Consulting. The winners of both races received a large number of prizes from partners of the event. The event closed with an autograph signing of David Křížek who presented his new book (Dnem i nocí Atlantikem II) at the exhibition. Sincere acknowledgements go to the exhibition director, Marcel Mourek, the exhibition organizers, partners of the race, everybody who helped with the organization, and, in particular, all participants.

Water sports presentation A big attraction for visitors was a show featuring MasterCraft boats. It included demonstrations of individual water sports, including various sports that can be practiced behind special boats, such as monoskiing, trick skiing, wakeboarding and wakesurfing.

The flying man The Flyboard, a special device combining diving, flying and jet skiing, was showcased exclusively at this year’s exhibition and was one of its biggest attractions. The Flyboard was constructed by Franky Zapata, a French water sports lover. During the show, the riders flew up to 9m above water and the flying men showed a number of somersaults, jumps and quick dives in the Vltava River.

100th edition of ČSOB Pojišťovna Mayor's Cup (Primátorky ČSOB Pojišťovny) The show also hosted a preview of the jubilee, 100th edition of the most famous Czech rowing competition, which was to be held from 7 to 9 June this year. A men’s eight was shown as a remembrance of a living tradition that dates back to Austria-Hungary.

Hovercraft show in water and on land Visitors could view hovercraft both on land on the Smíchov riverbank and in the Vltava River, where the pilots reached speeds of up to 90 km/h.

Hydroplane powerboats Members of the Czech Association of Water Motor Sports (Svaz vodního motorismu) organized an attractive programme and created the right racing atmosphere at the show. They showed hydroplane powerboats reaching speeds of up to 170 km/h in the Vltava River, accompanied by the typical noise.

Kids’ programme For children, there were various attractive competitions for prizes. The future little captains could try out RC yacht and sailboat models. They could also make a paper boat, angle, put together puzzles with boat motifs and solve boating quizzes.

Autograph signing of sea adventurer and writer Rudolf Krautschneider Saturday saw the autograph signing and discussion of a prominent Czech sea adventurer Rudolf Krautschneider. His books met with great interest from visitors.

Fashion shows New fashion collections for this season were shown at fashion shows by Litex – a popular Czech producer of swimwear, underwear and sportswear, and Papillons – a traditional Czech manufacturer of cotton Jacquard fabrics.

TOP EXPO, BOAT – TOP EXPO, GRAND PRIX On the very first day of the exhibition, an independent jury, chaired by the exhibition patron David Křížek, selected winners of the exhibition competitions – TOP EXPO, BOAT – TOP EXPO, GRAND PRIX. Stand no. 43 B of Schön Boot s.r.o. was chosen as the winner of TOP EXPO, a contest for the most attractive and illustrative display, thanks to its illustrative and aesthetic qualities. A certificate of merit was awarded to stand 62 C of DUTCH MASTERS s.r.o. thanks to its comprehensive range of products and sufficient and complete information for visitors. BOAT – TOP EXPO, a contest for the most attractive watercraft or boat at the exhibition, was won by GREENLINE, a boat presented by Česká lodní doprava – charter, s.r.o., thanks to its innovative and environmental solution. A certificate of merit was awarded to FOLLOW ME – CZE 759, a boat manufactured by the Milan Koláček Team. This boat represents the Czech Republic in solo sea yacht sailing, category of mini 650 prototypes. It is the first fullcarbon special racing yacht manufactured in the Czech Republic. Last year, Milan Koláček won the French championship in solo yachting with this boat.

BOAT, BOATING ACCESSORIES, WATER SPORTS AND CARAVANS SHOW The winner of GRAND PRIX, a contest for the best exhibit or new product of this year’s exhibition, was the Guillemot Petrel Proteak kayak manufactured by Martin Pavlas – Proteak Kayaks. This high-performance sea kayak is made of mahogany wood and carbon fibres using the sandwich method. The kayak is hand decorated with burnt motifs by the famous Slovak designer Martin Jankura. The kayak is not only beautiful and perfectly shaped; thanks to its structure, using high-quality wood and a combination of carbon fibres and high-strength laminate, it is extremely solid and flexible while keeping a very low weight.

BOATS ON THE WATER – the gala night The aim of the fifth boat, boating accessories and water sports show, BOATS ON THE WATER 2013, was not only to promote this industry in the Czech Republic but also doing good deeds. Therefore, similarly to last year, this year's exhibition opened with a charity auction for the benefit of the Dobrý skutek civic association. A remarkable CZK 76,100 (CZK 5,908 more than last year) was raised during a gala evening that was held at Hořejší nábřeží on 17 April 2013. The items auctioned included David Křížek's finish T-shirt, Lenka Šmídová’s Olympics clothes, a yacht-themed photo picture by Martina Barnetová, Milan Koláček’s yachting suit, David Svoboda’s Olympics bag, Lucie Křížková’s (Váchová’s) handbag, Jaromír Jágr’s ice-hockey stick, Mercedes-Benz watches and books with Marian Jelínek’s dedication. The full amount raised will be donated to three selected clients of the Dobrý skutek civic association: The Zahrada day-care centre in Prague 3, which urgently needs a new rehabilitation table, Mikuláš Hořínek (5) for a medical bed, and Ivana Votípková (18) for hearing aids.

For the first time this year, we had our own info stand at the venue throughout the exhibition, providing us with an opportunity to present the city district to the public. The Prague 2 institutions presented included, for example, the Vinohrady Library, the Centre for Children and Youth, the Department of the Environment and the Prague Municipal Police. In addition to this unique opportunity to present Prague 2, we see Boats on the Water as a prestigious event that will strengthen the reputation of both our city district and the entire capital of Prague. At the same time, this is another step to bringing more life to this location, which is also our goal, and we support every project like this. FINAL SUMMARY BOATS ON THE WATER & CARAVANS IN PRAGUE 2013, the 5th annual show featuring boats, water sports, boating accessories, caravans and other activities connected with water, was one of the most successful editions in the history of the exhibition. More than fifteen thousand visitors attended the exhibition. There were 242 ships and boats both in water and on land and exhibitors from the Czech Republic and abroad (Croatia, Hungary, Poland, Austria, Slovakia, Slovenia and Spain). Reactions prove that due to its character and concept, the show has become firmly established in the Czech market and, as one of few exhibitions, it is gaining in popularity both among exhibitors and visitors. We very much look forward to the 6th edition of BOATS ON THE WATER that, as we firmly believe, will be an even more dignified place for a gathering of all lovers of boats, boating accessories and water sports.
