EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Ring rot disease caused by the bacterium Clavibacter michiganensis subsp sepedonicus is a very dangerous disease for potato production, especially in seed production, so far not been formally reported its presence in Indonesia and still be categorized as Category A1 quarantine pest. Monitoring results of researchers from the Indonesian Vegetable Research Institute and Faculty of Agriculture, University of Padjadjaran based on field surveys conducted for potato farmers in West Java, a few potato plants indicate symptoms of ring rot disease. However, given that the bacterium C. michiganensis subsp. sepedonicus can be transmitted through the seed trade, while Indonesia often do import seed potatoes from abroad, and considering the potential threat of harm that can be generated, as well as the climate changes that occurred recently in which the status changed Pest Organisms that are difficult to predict, it is anticipated to detect the presence of the bacteria C. michiganensis subsp. sepedonicus in the center of the nursery and planting potato fields in Indonesia, it is very important to do. Given this information, the control measures can be more focused, effective and easily adopted by farmers. In this study will be conducted two phases of activities, with details of the following activities, in the first stage of monitoring the status of ring rot disease in potato plants by the method of survey, using questionnaires and observation and sampling of plants and seed potatoes and secondary data collection in potato production centers in South Sulawesi. Enrekang and Gowa district is a center for potential potato growing rapidly in potato. Identification of disease carried by the EPPO method, Elisa test and selective media in the Laboratory of Plant Diseases Indonesian Vegetable Research Institute. In this research would also collected non-pathogenic isolates of the pathogen and as a basis for further control study. Indijenous isolates will be tested its ability to control the ring rot disease in in-vivo in the laboratory. With the information on the distribution of ring rot disease can be used by the central government especially quarantine and local governments in South Sulawesi to take the policy in the ring rot disease management strategies that can save the loss of seed potato production, especially in Indonesia.
Indijeneus microbial isolates collented that have a high antagonistic, then it can be used as an alternative control of potato ring rot disease.
