BRITISH EDUCATION: British education is compulsory from the age of five to the age of sixteen. Levels of education: Smaller children can attend playgroups or creches, after that kindergartens. Children at the age of five begin their primary education. There are junior primary schools for seven-yearsold pupils. At the age of eleven British children continue at secondary schools. There are a lot of different types of schools, for instance, Secondary Modern School, Grammar School and Comprehensive Schools. When British teenagers are sixteen, they have to take GCSE exams. It is a General Certificate of Secondary Education. After that, British teenagers can start working or go on for vocational training or study more.
BRITISH EDUCATION: Universities: British students who want to study at universities have to stay at school longer, two years more. If they are eighteen years old, they take the A- levels exams - meaning advanced level. If they pass them, they can go to the universities. British oldest and most famous universities are Oxford and Cambridge. Public schools: They are private and very expensive. A lot of British public schools are boarding schools and they are often single-sex. Children usually wear uniforms there. The most well-known public schools are Eton, Harrow and Rugby.
