Dostupné z: http://files.eric.ed.gov/fulltext/EJ931212.pdf Abstrakt: Self-regulation refers to the ability to inhibit the automatic response and to do something else; more generally, it refers to the ability to control one's emotions, to control attention and other cognitive processes, and to plan and control behavior. This capacity turns out to have enormous consequences for academic and social success. And, as teachers observe daily, children differ widely in how much of this capacity they seem to have. Recent research indicates that teachers can help students--especially students having the most trouble--by providing an organized classroom environment, and by removing elements in the environment that can trigger impulsive behavior. Helping students better self-regulate is a daunting task because it seems such a personal, permanent quality of an individual. But researchers have shown that it is open to change, and they also have shown that good self-regulation is associated with a broad spectrum of positive academic and social outcomes, and that poor self-regulation is associated with greater risk for correspondingly bad outcomes. These facts highlight the urgency for teachers to do all they can to help students grow in this area. (Contains 49 endnotes.)

Dostupné z: http://ro.ecu.edu.au/ajte/vol36/iss3/2 → Download Abstrakt: Emotions affect, and are intertwined with, many of the cognitive processes of learning and also classroom motivation and social interaction. There are often times within daily classroom life that students and teachers are required to, or feel compelled to, regulate their emotions. Limited research has shown that particular aspects of classroom environments can enhance emotion regulation strategy development. In addition, research indicates that some emotion regulation strategies are more effective than others, with antecedent strategies appearing favourable. Using a self-regulation perspective, this article takes a broad look at emotion regulation in the classroom through a review of relevant research, including the author's own. The article investigates the importance of emotion regulation in the classroom and subsequently how emotion regulation development can be enhanced.

Dostupné z: http://ro.ecu.edu.au/ajte/vol37/iss3/4 → Download Abstrakt: This study was undertaken in response to the imperative of teacher education courses incorporating National Professional Standards for Teachers, in particular Standard 7, which deals with the professional engagement of teachers (AITSL, 2011). It aimed to evaluate the efficacy of simulation and active recall as a learner-centred pedagogy in facilitating pre-service teachers' learning about their capacity to self-regulate emotionally and its relevance to the profession. A simulated "critical incident" was used in a lecture to guide students (n=106) to analyse and understand their emotional responses to an altercation between the lecturer and a colleague. The evaluation involved both quantitative and qualitative data collection. The study generated six useful insights associated with the efficacy of simulation pedagogy and revealed convincingly that this pedagogy can engage students actively in learning about the importance of emotional self-regulation in relation to their professional role as a teacher.

Dostupné z: http://files.eric.ed.gov/fulltext/EJ1014053.pdf Abstrakt: The purpose of this paper is to investigate the beginning teachers' perceptions of pedagogical knowledge and skills in teaching in Singapore. Data was collected from the beginning teachers at three time points: the exit point of the teacher education programme, the end of their first year and third year of teaching. In this three year study, the focus is to examine the beginning teachers' perceptions of their development in the following teaching related factors: lesson planning, classroom management and instructional strategies. The results showed that beginning teachers' pedagogical knowledge and skills increased significantly, but at different rates, in all three factors at the end of their third year of teaching. It suggested that learning to teach is an ongoing process that begins from the pre-service teacher education programme and continues into the initial three years of teaching.

Dostupné z: http://files.eric.ed.gov/fulltext/EJ884413.pdf Abatrakt: This study examined the effect of diaries on self-regulation strategies of the pre-service science teachers. The participants of the study were 60 pre-service science teachers, 30 of which were in the experimental and the remaining 30 were in the control group. The Pintrich's self-regulation model was taken as a basis in the study. The Pintrich's model of self-regulation includes 3 general categories of strategies: (a) cognitive learning strategies, (b) metacognitive or self-regulatory strategies to control cognition, and (c) resource management strategies. In the study, the pre-service science teachers in the experimental group reported the self-regulation strategies they used for daily learning activities by writing the diary-report form for fourteen weeks. The data of the study were collected by the motivated strategies for learning questionnaire. At the end of the study, the intrinsic motivation, task value, metacognition, time management strategy usage status of the experimental group which reported their self-regulation strategies were significantly different from those of the control group. Abstrakt: Monitoring the stress of teachers continues to be important--particularly stress levels of beginning agriculture teachers. The study sought to describe the relationship between beginning teachers' perceived ability to manage their time and their level of stress. The Time Management Practices Inventory and the Job Stress Survey were used to measure and collect the data. The study was comprised of 36 beginning secondary agriculture teachers in Missouri. A highlight of the findings suggests that beginning teachers tend to perceive themselves as good managers of time when compared to norm data. Additionally, on average, these teachers are not in a state of stress. Low to negligible relationships exist between the seven time management practices and teachers' scores on the job stress, job pressure, and lack of support indices.

In: Psicothema. 2010, roč. 22, č. 2, s. 293298. ISSN 0214-9915. Abstrakt: In the present study, we designed a model of self-regulated inquiry that connects theory to practice for teachers to deepen their understanding of the core beliefs, commitment, and the experiences shaping their professional identity. The rationale of this model was grounded in motivational and identity theories related to selfregulation, self-efficacy, and goal setting. We posed three questions to 342 participants enrolled in graduate courses in educational psychology. These questions formed part of an interview process used as a dialogic retrospection to elicit teachers' voices. The results were summarized in meaningful written narratives, which were analyzed for generative themes. The researchers identified several themes that related to findings from the literature, confirming that (a) teacher identity is a complex construct, related to teachers' experiences of success and frustration, age, and cultural context; (b) the dialogic retrospection served as a mediator to clarify what influenced their teacher identity, and (c) the self-regulated inquiry model helped teachers to assess the development of their professional growth from a motivational perspective. Implications for teacher education and research to expand the notion of teacher identity are discussed.

Abstrakt: Differentiated Instruction (DI) is an approach that recognizes the strengths and weaknesses of diverse learners and requires the teacher to base instructional accommodations on student strengths and weaknesses. Specifically, teachers use DI strategies to adjust the content, process, or product of instruction depending on student needs. Given the complexity of DI as well as the unique situation that alternatively certified teachers face as they enter challenging classrooms with limited experience, they must acknowledge that their learning to teach process will require that knowledge be developed as one practices the profession. This knowledge in practice results from the application of theoretical and research based concepts to one's teaching practice paired with ongoing attention to whether the application led to the desired student learning results and, if not, attention to how the practice should be adjusted. Self-regulation may be a tool which helps novices develop the knowledge in practice that strengthens their teaching and student learning. The purpose of this research is to understand alternative certification candidates' development as planners and implementers of DI. The literature already elucidates the importance of developing the professional skills of alternatively certified teachers, and the importance of coaching in learning to plan for high quality instruction. Knowing what factors are critical to learning to plan within the teaching context will make it possible for novices and their supervisors to accelerate novice teachers' success as instructional planners. Furthermore, the conditions made explicit in this study also allows apprentice teachers to be cognizant of the role they play in developing their own planning and differentiation skills. The important role of self-regulation in apprentice development is an overarching conclusion in this study because the development of each of the other conditions (collegial relationships, classroom management, planning for a standard and student need, accepting feedback) was greatly influenced by the apprentice's ability to self-regulate. ISSN 0267-8393. DOI: 10.1080/02678373.2011.570941. Abstrakt: Knowledge of the cycle of work and recovery is crucial for protecting employee health and well-being and preserving working capabilities. However, the daily process of effort and recovery is not well understood. This study investigated how the time spent on activities in the work and off-job domains, and the pleasure and effort experienced while engaging in these activities, affect the daily recovery process. We expected higher levels of effort at work and during off-job time to be negatively related to recovery, and higher levels of pleasure at work and during off-job time to be positively related to recovery. We also hypothesized that pleasure would act as a buffer against the negative effects of effort. Data were collected by means of a five-day diary study (three measurements daily, before and immediately after work, and at bedtime) among 120 university academic staff. Fatigue and (low) vigour were used as indicators of (lack of) recovery. Multilevel analyses showed that pleasure in the work and off-job domains had beneficial effects on recovery. An adverse association between effort expenditure and recovery was lacking. However, in the work domain, a combination of unpleasant and effortful work activities was negatively related to recovery. These findings stress the importance of engaging in pleasant activities during work and off-job time.
