CHALLENGES • Lack of incentive to grow bamboo due to low added value received by farmer • Land conversion of the used to be bamboo for other purpose • Limited technological application for bamboo processing and utilization • Weak institutional bamboo grower and proccesor • Data and information related to potential bamboo plantation and enterprise never been compiled comprehensively • Upstream - downstream policies and programs in bamboo development is not yet integrated

OPPORTUNITIES • Indonesia ranked third in the world bamboo & rattan market share • Current development and utilization of bamboo processing technology • Prime bamboo physical characters: high carbon absorption capacity • Close to the development of grass-root's economy • Synergies rises from the merger of two major sectors supporting the development of bamboo (Ministry of Environment and Ministry of Forestry) • Additional synergies rises from other sectors, i.e. Ministry of Village and Disadvantaged Areas and the Agency of Creative Economy

Policy Proposition
1. Conduct research and study of the development of bamboo in the District level 2. To map data of existing of bamboo plants and industry from various regions (all districts) to make bamboo centralized, open, and accessible database 3. Roadshow at the district prepared for bamboo development by involving related parties taking advantage of the village budget 4. To proclaime 'National Bamboo Planting Movement' to encourage planting of bamboo. Planting will be devoted on the riverbed of the city, lake, boundary conservation areas (buffer zone) and other forest areas by using local bamboo species which has economic value 5. Pilot project for the development of bamboo as cluster (Pekalongan, Pringsewu, Bangli, Sleman, Malang, Magelang, Kandangan, Lake, Bantam). 6. Establihment of Indonesia National Standard for the preparation of qualified bamboo seeds and seedlings
