HIGH SCHOOLS • There are more possibilities where to study after elementary school – Grammar Schools (they prepare students for university) – Technical Schools (specialized school) – Vocational Schools (with or without graduation exam) – Schools of art (graphic arts, design…) – Conservatories (musical, dramatic, dancing education)
GRAMMAR SCHOOL • Grammar school is a good choice for children who: – Don´t know what they want to do in the future – Want to continue their study at a university
• During study at a grammar school students have to educate in many different areas, so this school belongs to the most difficult • It can last 8, 6 or 4 years • It concludes with graduation exam
TYPES OF GRAMMAR SCHOOLS • 8-years study: – Children start at the age of 11 and end with the graduation exam at the age of 18
• 6-years study: – It starts after 7th grade at the elementary school (children from 12 to 18)
• 4-years study: – The most usual – It starts after finishing elementary school
SPECIAL GRAMMAR SCHOOL • In the Czech Republic there is a special grammar school for the most clever children • Its name is Mensa grammar school and it offers a 8-years study • It is situated in Prague • The IQ of succesful applicant have to be higher than 130
LANGUAGE GRAMMAR SCHOOLS • There are some grammar schools, where the lessons are in foreign languages • They usually last 6 years (start after 7th grade) • Succesful applicants have to pass exam of Czech language, foreign language and Maths • Examples: – English grammar school in Ostrava – Grammar school of F.X.Šalda in Liberec
TECHNICAL SCHOOL • It always lasts 4 years and starts after finishing elementary school • It is a good choice for children, who: – don´t want to continue their study at the university – know what to do in the future
• After 4 years of study students have to pass a graduation exam

SCHOOL OF ART • Students who choose this type of school usually have to pass an aptitude test • Aptitude test usually consists of drawing, painting and some task related to a branch • Examples of art schools: – School of fashion – Graphic Art School – School of Design
CONSERVATORY • Conservatory usually lasts 6 years, branch of dance even 8 years • Famous conservatories: – Conservatory of Jaroslav Ježek in Prague (jazz) – Conservatory of Leoš Janáček in Brno (singing, music, dramatic art) – Conservatory of dance in Prague – State conservatory in Prague
