LIKA LIKU PENGELOLAAN RESERVOIR MIGAS R. Sumantri, Teknik Perminyakan Universitas Trisakti
2. TEORI MIGAS
PENGELOLAAN
RESERVOIR
Konon kabarnya ketika awal kehadiran industri migas, pengelolaan reservoir migas hanya atas dasar let it happen saja, alias minyak bumi dibiarkan berproduksi semampunya tanpa perlu perencanaan yang matang. Sedangkan prinsip-prinsip ilmu teknik reservoir No. 1/2006
tercipta antara tahun 1935 – 1950-an. Setelah itulah pengelolaan reservoir migas mulai dilakukan secara profesional, yaitu mengacu kepada ilmu teknik reservoir (reservoir engineering). Beberapa text-book teknik reservoir mendefinisikan teknik reservoir sebagai berikut : Craft and Hawkins (1959) : Reservoir engineering may be defined as the application of scientific principles to the drainage problems arising during the development and production of oil and gas reservoirs. Reservoir engineering is the art of developing and producing oil and gas fields in such a manner as to obtain a high economic recovery. Frank W. Cole (1962) : The principles function of reservoir engineering is to predict the further behavior of a petroleum reservoir under the various producing mechanism which are, or may become available. The various operating plans is an integral part of any reservoir engineering study. E. H. Timmerman (1982) : The prime objective of reservoir engineering is to understand the secrets of nature that are applicable to a specific oil and gas reservoirs. Such information is essential when future performance and recoverable reserves are to to be reliably forecast.
C.T. Sawabini3 mendefinisikan reservoir management, yang terjemahan bebasnya kira-kira sebagai berikut : Reservoir management adalah suatu urutan kegiatan (proses) yang dilakukan terus menerus sepanjang masa pengusahaan suatu reservoir migas, berulang setiap 3 – 5 tahun, mencakup kegiatan : 1. karakterisasi reservoir melalui pekerjaan akuisisi data, studi geofisika, geologi, petrofisika dan reservoir. 2. Perencanaan pemboran, komplesi dan produksi. 3.
4
Selanjutnya DR. C.T. Sawabini mengatakan bahwa ada tujuh komponen penting dalam pelaksanaan reservoir management, yang dinamakannya the seven component of reservoir management yang senantiasa harus ditangani secara profesional , yaitu: 1. Synergy Team 2. Data Acquisition 3. Reservoir Development 4. Drilling and Production 5. Surface Facilities 6. Operation and Monitoring 7.
Mengelola Lapangan Migas Tua
No. 1/2006

A reservoir is a porous and permeable underground formation containing an individual and separate natural accumulation of producible hydrocarbons (oil and/or gas) that is confined by impermeable rock and/or water barriers and is characterized by a single natural pressure system.
Cadangan Migas
4. PENUTUP Pengelolaan reservoir pada bisnis pengusahaan lapangan migas seyogianya dilaksanakan secara sound reservoir management practice. Hal itu juga sejalan dengan pengaturan dalam Peraturan Pemerintah Republik Indonesia No. 35 Tahun 2004 Tentang Kegiatan Usaha Hulu Migas.
No. 1/2006
C.T. Sawabini, pakar Reservoir Management sebagai berikut : ”Exploiting a reservoir without implementing sound reservoir management practice is like sailing a ship in the ocean without navigation tool”. MEASUREMENT OF Z-FACTORS FOR CARBON DIOXIDE SEQUESTRATION Paulus S. Adisoemarta, Texas Tech University Scott M. Frailey, ISGS Akanni S. Lawal, Texas Tech University
Abstract Due to concerns about global climate change, carbon dioxide gases from natural and industrial sources are more and more re-injected into depleted gas reservoirs. The PVT laboratory at Texas Tech University has undertaken a comprehensive study on compressibility factor (Z-factor) of hydrocarbon (HC) gas at various amount of CO2. For the sole purpose of the measured Z-factor data, three temperatures of 100°F, 160°F and 220°F and pressures ranges from 50 psia to 5000 psia are selected as representative of the depleted gas reservoirs (DGRs). In order to analyze the various phase behavior to be encountered in gas reservoirs (dry gas, wet gas and retrograde gas), the median gas compositions for dry, wet and retrograde gases are specified by gas type. The gas types are categorized by representative compositional analysis for the three types of gas reservoirs (dry gas, wet gas and retrograde gas). The measurements of z-factors for CO2-hydrocarbon mixtures in varying proportions and at the three specified temperatures for various pressures are performed on the median gas compositions of the type gases. The results of the Z-factor measurements of CO2-hydrocarbon mixtures are used to interpret the expected phase behavior to be encountered in the geologic storage of CO2 in gas reservoirs. Also, the Z-factor measurements of CO2-retrograde gas mixtures are used to quality the benefits of enhanced gas and condensate recovery in gas reservoirs. INTRODUCTION Carbon dioxide (CO2) gas has been used for enhanced oil recovery through miscible and immiscible displacement of oil at high pressures and moderate temperatures since the earlier 1970. Recently, research is being directed for the use of carbon dioxide in the oil refining through supercritical extraction of hydrocarbons.1 Current activities are to find ways for geologic storage of CO2 in oil or gas reservoirs.2 Although one laboratory measurement of CO2-hydrocarbon mixture in the limited ranges of temperatures and pressures used in this project has been reported in Venezuela (Rojas-Requena, 1992),3 this paper presents experimental measurements of Z-factors for CO2-hydrocarbon mixtures at three specified temperatures and pressures ranging from 50 psia to 5000 psia. The results of the experimental Zfactors are used to quantify economic benefits (such as enhanced oil recovery (EOR) and enhanced condensate vaporization) of geologic storage of CO2 in gas reservoir. The compressibility factor, or Z-factor, is determined by manipulating the Real Gas Law and assuming that reservoir gas will behaves as an ideal gas at ambient pressure and temperature (McCain, 1990, page 106). The Real Gas Law is defined as follows:
PV = ZnRT .............................................. (1) For a constant composition system, the product of pressure and volume is constant, thus No. 1/2006
P1V1 Z1nRT1 = ........................................ (2) P2V2 Z 2 nRT2 Where the subscripts are: 1. Condition in the cell 2. Ambient condition Solving for the ratio of compressibility factors:
Z1 P1V1T2 = ............................................... (3) Z 2 P2V2T1 At ambient pressure and temperature all gases are assumed to behave like an Ideal Gas, so that its compressibility factor is unity. Substituting Z2 with 1 result in the primary formula for this study:
Z1 =

HYDROCARBON TYPE GAS SAMPLES The first part of the study is identifying major components of reservoir gas and the range of compositions for each of the categories of the gas reservoirs (i.e., dry gas, wet gas, and retrograde gas). 9
The gas compositions are obtained from published SPE papers, Petroleum Engineering Journals, Gas Information System (GASIS) and PVT analyses. The major components of gas reservoir are identified as nitrogen, carbon dioxide, methane, ethane, propane, n-butane, n-pentane, hexane, and heptane-plus (N2, CO2, C1, C2, C3, nC4, nC5, C6, C7+). Non-hydrocarbon components are removed and the hydrocarbon components are normalized to 1.0 mole. These compositions are analyzed to find the median composition for each of the categories of gas reservoirs, and a means of identifying the Gas Type from the composition is established. Tables containing the normalized median compositions for each category of gas reservoirs are constructed. The median compositions are derived from 131 dry gas, 12 wet gas, and 11 retrograde gas samples. A sample of the normalized median composition for gas reservoir is shown in Table 1. Table 1 shows that dry gas reservoir is mainly C1, whereas wet and retrograde gas reservoirs have appreciable amount of heptanes-plus fractions (C7+). Anticipating sequestration of CO2 in depleted gas reservoirs (DGRs) to vary based on the phase behavior of the mixture of the CO2 and the resident hydrocarbon gases and liquids, the Zfactor measurements are based on each gas types. The gas compositions of Table 1 are the compositions of the initial or discovery gas reservoirs. By definition there are no phase changes in the reservoir for dry and wet gases; consequently, the median dry and wet gas compositions are also the compositions of the respective gases at depleted reservoir conditions. This is not the case for retrograde gas, which undergoes a phase change at reservoir conditions. As such, the composition of the retrograde gas’ liquid and vapor phases varies with pressure. Three depleted pressures of 50, 250 and 500 psia are used as a range to define the depleted gas reservoir pressure, which is also the initial sequestration pressure. These three gases are labeled as retrograde gases A, B and C for the gases at 50, 250 and 500 psia, respectively, and their respective compositions are show in Table 2. To ensure the broadest applicability of the lab data to CO2 sequestration in gas reservoirs, gas compositions are required for as many sources as possible so that a representative average composition of dry, wet and retrograde gases could be established. Therefore, a specific gas reservoir could be selected or fabricated in the laboratory that is close to the median composition found from data collected for each gas type. As broadest applications into gas reservoirs are required, a specific gas reservoir study is not mandated. Consequently, the 154 gas compositions found in the literature and private sources could be categorized by gas types: dry, wet, and retrograde. 10
Median gas types are calculated for each gas type in order to have gas compositions that are not unique to specific gas reservoir. A plot is made that identify regions type gases (dry, wet, and retrograde gasses) based on their compositions. Several plots were made to find the combination of compositions that would provide the greatest distinction of the gas type and thus yields unique gas-type identification. The final plot (see Figure 1) is the sum of the mole fraction of the butane, propane, pentane, hexane and heptane divided by the mole fraction methane (y-axis) versus mole fraction of ethane divided by mole fraction of methane (x-axis). Figure 1 is the basis for gas samples specification ordered for the experimental work on CO2-hydrocarbon mixtures. EXPERIMENTAL GAS SAMPLES To ensure repeatability of the Z-factor measurements for each gas type, pre-mixed gas with the median composition of each gas type that has been shown in Table 1 were ordered from a commercial analytical-gas vendor. Two more procedure were implemented to ensure sample consistency: 1. Single-phase sample loading from the gas bottle to the PVT cell must be performed all the time. To ensure single-phase loading each bottle has to be heated to above its cricondentherm temperature plus 15°F. 2. To prevent sample segregation in the bottle due to molecular weight difference of each component, the bottle must be heated in a nonuniform form. The lower part of the bottle is heated at 200°F while the top part is heated at the cricondentherm temperature plus 15°F. The much hotter lower part of the bottle will make the sample gas lighter than the upper part, and thus created a continuous convection upward that ensures no sample segregation occurs. As the median retrograde gas has a cricondentherm temperature much higher than the safety limit of the sample bottle to ensure single-phase loading, the median retrograde gas sample must be loaded in two steps. The step one is to load the liquid part of the heptane-plus, in the form of liquid decane to the PVT cell. Then the second step is to load the premixed median retrograde gas but without the heptane-plus part. Then an overnight mixing was done in the cell at the target temperature of 100°F, 160°F, and 220°F. RUSKA PVT EQUIPMENT This research project uses equipment commercially available from Chandler Engineering Products (previously Ruska) Model 2370 Mercury-Free PVT Oven, and the produced gas is measured with the Model 2331 Gasometer and Model 2353 Separator. Measurement automation and remote monitoring is performed by in-house developed LabVIEW-based software running on an off-the-shelf computer inhouse. To ensure a leak-free system, a special compound that is compatible with high concentration of CO2 has been utilized. This special compound is called V1238-95, a fluorocarbon material (FKM) product of Parker Hannifin. To prevent the premature destruction of seals in the system, due to the absorbed gas and/or CO2 that suddenly expands when the system pressure is dropped, a measure similar to deep sea divers do to prevent a syndrome called “bends” has been implemented. This method calls for a waiting period until the system stabilized, for at least 15 minutes, after a volume expansion of maximum 1.5 times the initial volume has been performed. During this waiting time all absorbed gas will have sufficient time to diffuse out from the seal material safely. LABORATORY MEASUREMENT RESULTS Great effort has been spent during the measurement in the lab to minimize measurement error. These efforts comprised of repeating each measurement six times and rejecting the outlier data before the averaging, running the system against known gas to detect any system drifts between HC sample runs, and letting the system stays overnight to ensure a completely stabilized system before each sample run. Figures 2 to 4 shows CO2 compressibility factor measured in the lab compared to published data by Sage and Lacey (1955), and Burton Corblin (1990). The plot shows a very good match between lab results and the two published data sets that confirm equipment and methodology. At pressure less than 100 psia, the measured data deviates slightly (less than 10% absolute error) compared to the two published data sets. The smoothed compressibility factors of dry gas samples from laboratory measurement are shown in Figure 5 to 7 and Table 3 to 5. Each table shows the actual lab result, and the smoothed data are listed next to the lab measurements. Figure 5 shows the compressibility factor of various median dry gas and carbon dioxide composition at 100°F. Also shown on the plot is the compressibility factor of pure carbon dioxide gas. As can be observed from the plot, a consistent progression in the increasing amount of carbon dioxide gas in the median dry gas mixture is shown. The result of the compressibility factor at 160°F is shown in Figure 6. The plot shows a consistent trend as a function of increasing carbon dioxide content. Figure 7 shows the compressibility factor of various dry gas and No. 1/2006
carbon dioxide mixture at 220°F. This plot shows a correct trend as a function of the amount of carbon dioxide in the mixture. Because wet gas sample generate liquid in the separator at temperature lower than 145°F, there is no plot of compressibility factor at 100°F. The compressibility factors at 160°F and 220°F are shown in Figures 8-9. Compressibility factor of various wet gas with carbon dioxide at 160°F shows a consistent trend as a function of the amount of carbon dioxide. At 220°F, the compressibility factor also shows the expected trend as a function of the amount of carbon dioxide. Tables 6 and 7 shows the compressibility factor of various wet gas with carbon dioxide in numerical format As the retrograde gas is expected to have a fraction of the volume as liquid at certain pressure and temperatures, the compressibility factor measurement was done using two different methods and the result is merged together. For pressures above the dew-point pressure, the constant composition expansion (CCE) method was utilized whereby the cell is kept closed, and system pressure is gradually increased and the respective cell volume is recorded. For pressures below the dewpoint pressure the constant volume depletion (CVD) method was utilized. This method mimics the actual condition in the reservoir during depletion process as the reservoir volume stays constant and the liquid precipitation stays in the pore space of the reservoir rock. The dew-point pressure of median retrograde gas is 3400 psia, and drops to 1300 psia after CO2 has been injected. Figures 10, 11, and 12 shows the compressibility factor of median retrograde gas and depleted retrograde gas after CO2 has been mixed at temperatures of 100°F, 160°F, and 190°F. Tables 8, 9, and 10 show the result in numeric format, respectively. Owing to the equipment failures as a result of premature seal degradation at high temperatures, there is no result for cell temperature of 220°F. BENEFITS OF GEOLOGIC CO2 STORAGE One side benefit of CO2 sequestration is the additional production of hydrocarbon gasses due to re-vaporization of retrograde condensate in the reservoir. Figure 13 shows the amount of re-vaporized liquid, in percent of original condensate volume, as a function of temperature and depletion pressure. As it can be seen on the plot, the amount of condensate that is re-vaporized range from as low as 5.7 percent to as high as 35 percent. Stated in different ways, as much as one-third of the condensate liquid in a depleted reservoir can be produced as gas after 11
CO2 is sequestered. Table 11 shows the complete result in tabular format. CONCLUSIONS This research uses laboratory measured Z-factor of CO2-hydrocarbon mixture to analyze phase behavior, enhanced gas and enhanced condensate recovery for CO2 storage in depleted gas reservoirs. The laboratory measured CO2 compressibility factor (or Z-factor) is much lower than hydrocarbon gas mixtures at the specified temperatures and pressures. Therefore, that offers the opportunity to store larger surface volumes of CO2 than hydrocarbon gases. Five times the storage is possible depending on pressure, temperature and hydrocarbon gas composition Storage of CO2 increases if the CO2/HC gas mixture compressibility (Z-factor) is low. Furthermore, if a liquid condensate occupies the reservoir pore space and the addition of CO2 vaporizes the liquid, then additional pore space is acquired for CO2 storage. PROSES PENGUAPAN DIFFERENTIAL DAN HUBUNGANNYA DENGAN MATCHING HASIL SIMULASI KORELASI STANDING St. Edi Purwaka, Teknik Perminyakan Universitas Trisakti Reza Fahlevi, Alumnus Teknik Perminyakan Universitas Trisakti
No. 1/2006
III. Material Balance Berubahnya fluida dari satu fasa menjadi dua fasa disebut proses flash bila mol awal sama dengan mol akhir. Secara matematis dapat diturunkan persamaan empiris sbb: Berat Liquid Awal = Berat Liquid Akhir + Berat Gas Akhir
ρ oi xVoi = ρ STB xV STB + ρ g xV g
ρ oi xVoi = ρ STB xV STB + Ggxρ xV g ud
Vg V oi = ρ STB + Ggx0.001222 x V STB V STB ρ oi xBoi = ρ STB + Ggx0.001222 xRs / 5.6146
ρ oi x
ρ oi xBoi = ρ STB + 0.21765 xGgxRs / 1000 Boi = ( ρ STB + 0.21765 xGgxRs / 1000) / ρ oi ............. (1)
ρ STB = 0.999014 x141.5 /(131.5 + API )
.............(2)
24
Boi = f (( Rs, Gg , API , ρ oi )
(Gg .sep * GORsep + Gg.stk * GORstk ) Gg.average = (GORsep + GORstk ) ..........................(3) dimana Gg.average = Gravity gas rata-rata.

Pb = 18.2 * [(CN ) Pb − 1.4] …..………..(4) Rs ( 0.00091T − 0.0125*o API ) (CN ) Pb = ( )^ 0.83 *10 ^ Gg Bo = 0.9759 + 0.00012[CN ) Bob ] ...…(5) 1.2
⎡ ⎤ Gg (CN ) Bob = ⎢ Rs ( ) 0.5 + 1.25(T − 460)⎥ γo ⎣ ⎦ dimana
Pb = tekanan gelembung (Psia) Bo = formation volume factor (RB/STB) Rs = gas solubility scf/STB Gg = dissolved gas specific gravity T = temperatur ( o R ) o API = Gravity minyak γ o = Specific Gravity minyak pada stock tank V. Experiment 1. Constant Composition Expansion Sebagaimana diketahui bila tekanan reservoir turun melampaui tekanan titik gelambung Pb maka fluida yang tadinya satu fasa mulai berubah menjadi dua fasa.
Boi = f (( Rs, Gg , API , ρ o ) .

VIII.

RESERVOIR CHARACTERIZATION USING ARTIFICIAL NEURAL NETWORK Martinus Barus, Pertamina Upstream Operation Western Java Area, Cirebon Ni Putu Juniari, Student of Petroleum Engneering Dept, Trisakti University
ABSTRACT Reservoir characterization is a process of describing various reservoir characteristis using all available field data to provide reliable reservoir models. Permeability and porosity are the two fundamental reservoir properties. Permeability describes ability to flow and porosity relates to the amount of fluid (oil, gas, water) contained in a reservoir. Permeability and porosity have a significant impact on petroleum evaluation or reservoir management. An Interval with uncored and well of heterogeneous formation, these properties estimation from well logs has a difficult to solve by conventional statistical methods. Artificial Neural Network (ANN) technique is a computer model that attempts to mimic simple biological learning processes. ANN simulates specific functions of human nervous system. In this paper ANN is used for selecting the best related well logs with core permeability and porosity data. ANN is a nonlinear regression method to transform between core measurement and well logs data. The results show that the ANN method can make more accurate and reliable reservoir properties (permeability and porosity) estimation compared with conventional methods. This technique can be used as a tool for reservoir characterization from well logs data. INTRODUCTION Over the years prediction of permeability and porosity of formation without actual laboratory measurement of cores or interpretation of well test data has ben a fundamental problem for reservoir engineers. Therefore scientifically sound and geologically compatible procedures must be sought to find a reliable calculation of permeability and porosity. Traditionally, estimation of permeability and porosity or reservoir charaterization use cores data as true value to correct calculated permeability and porosity from well logs data. Another method of obtaining permeability is well testing. The permeability measured is an average value of effective permeability. Many authors have used it in the past to solve many related problems such financial prediction, climate prediction, electrical load prediction, etc. Therefore, the objective of this paper is to develop a practical and reliable methodology for estimation of permeability and porosity using Artificial neural Network (ANN). PERMEABILITY MEASUREMENT The cores recovered fom downhole have been subjected to the same procecesses that cutting are subjected to, that is flushing and expulsions of fluids on pressure reduction. Therefore, the natural 34
staes of these cores have always been altered before they get to the surface. Also cores provide a small statistical sampling of the zone of interest. Permeability can also esimate from well testing or pressure transient analysis. Pressure transient analysis, though gives acceptable estimation of the reservoir permeability, the pressure build up (PBU) test anf pressure draw down (PDD) test have a common drawback on the validit of the result they generate. Well test analysis provide kh value and not individual permeability at a specific depth. Analysis assumes an homogeneous formation, the interval from which the pressure response was obtained are the same interval indicated by the log, it is also tends to assume that both permeability and thickness are constant throughout formation. POROSITY MEASUREMENT Several methods have been developed for the determination of porosity of consolidated rocks having intergranular porosity. However, formation porosity is commonly measured in the laboratories using core sample. Diamond coring equipment was used to obtain core samples with a diameter of 3.5 inches. There are three basic parameters required to determine porosity: 1. Bulk Volume 2. Pore Volume 3. Grain Volume In the laboratory measurement of porosity, it is necessary to determine only two of the three basic parameters. In general, all methods of bulk volume determination areapplicable to determining both total and effective porosity. Determination of bulk
Jurnal Teknologi Minyak dan Gas Bumi
volume volumetrically uses a variety of specially constructed pycnometers or volumeters. The porosity can be determined from a measurement of its bulk density. The fundamental equation that relates the bulk density, .b, to the solid matrix, which has a density .m, and the porosity f, which contains a fluid of density .f, is.b = f.f + (1 -f).m (2) From this relationship, the porosity, f, can be determined from the measurement of bulk density, assuming that the matrix density and fluid density are known. These will be known with any precision only if the fluid type and properties and lithology are known. In practical terms, the density ranges of fluid is between 0.8 and 1.2 gr/cc, and most matrix densities are between 2.60 and 2.96 gr/cc [4]. ARTIFICIAL NEURAL NETWORK (ANN) Although the idea of neural networks seemed relatively new, the first discovery of biological neural networks was quite long ago. In 1873, Alexander Bain of the United Kingdom wrote a book regarding the new findings of human brains. At that time, scientists were only able to see the Biological Neural Network and were not capable of doing experiments. All they could do was to observe and generate theories. The actual study of neural networks dated back to the 1940s when pioneers, such as McCulloch and Pitts and Hebb, tried to learn more about the neurons and the neural network. They also attempted to find a formula for the structure and adaptation laws. In the 1950s, scientists around the world tried to decipher the mystery of the human brain and to create a network that could mimic the biological neural network. Hence, scientists from different branches, such as biologists, psychologists, physiologists, mathematicians and engineers, were required to work together to learn more about neural networks. Even though around that time, they discovered the limitation of the network, some people were still interested and continued to research. It was not until computers like 186 were developed that scientists and programmers began to realize that they could create an actual neural network for daily applications or further research. In the past twenty years, since this development, a lot of studies have been done, but not much progress has been made. It is the improved speed of the processor that has enabled wider application of neural network technologies. In order to understand how an artificial neural network functions, we must understand the biological neural network first. Neil Fraser provides probably the most helpful explanation of the concept of the neural network. I will discuss some of the main points on the website.
No. 1/2006
The human brain is a vast communication network in which around 100 billion brain cells called neurons are interconnected to other neurons. Each neuron contains a soma, nucleus, axon, yet they don't play an important role in receiving and outputting electrical impulses. Each neuron has several dendrites which connect to other neurons and when a neuron fires (sending electrical impulse), a positive or negative charge is sent to other neurons. When a neuron receives signals from other neurons, spatial and temporal summation occurs where spatial summation converts several weak signals into a large one, and temporal summation converts a series of weak signals from the same source into a large signal. The electrical impulse is then transmitted through axon to terminal buttons to other neurons. The axon hillock plays an important role because if the signal is not strong enough to pass through it, no signal will be transmitted. The terminal buttons shown on figure 2 are connected to other neurons or muscle cells. The gap between the two neurons is called the synapse. The synapse also determines the "weight" of the signal transmitted. The more often a signal is sent through the synapse, the easier it is for the signal to be sent through. In theory, this is how humans memorize or recognize patterns; which is why when humans practice certain tasks continuously, they become more and more familiar or used to the tasks. Because the neural network mimics the biological neural network, an ANN has to resemble essential parts of a BNN, such as neuron, axons, hillock and more. Currently, to create an ANN, there are two approaches. The first approach is to use experimental chips that simulate neurons and interconnect them to create a network. However, this approach is inefficient due to the expenses and the technologies behind it. The software solution, on the other hand, is much easier because as the network expands, it is harder to upgrade the network through hardware than through software. To create an ANN through the means of software, object oriented programming is required because a neuron resembles several components, and OOP is the best choice due to its capability of creating objects that contains different variables and methods. The first step is to create an object that simulates the neuron. The object would contain several functions and variables including weight (a random number generated when the neuron is created, similar to the synapse in BNN), a nonlinear function (to determine whether to activate the neuron or not), a method that adds up all the inputs, and a bias/offset value (optional) for the characterization of the neuron. Figure 3 clearly demonstrates parts of a BNN in terms of ANN. The output of each neuron is the sum of all the inputs multiplying the weights plus the offset value and 35
through a non-linear function. The non-linear function acts like a hillock. Figure 4 shows a variety of non-linear functions most frequently used for ANN. After the object is created, the next step is to create a network. A typical ANN has three layers: input layer, hidden layer and output layer. The input layer is the only layer that receives signals outside the network. The signals are then sent to the hidden layer, which contains interconnected neurons for pattern recognition and relevant information interpretation. Afterwards, the signals are directed to the final layer for outputs. Usually a more sophisticated neural network would contain several hidden layers and feedback loops to make the network more efficient and to interpret the data more accurately. The diagram on the left is an example of a three layered neural network. Using figure 5 as a model, the network is like a big matrix. However, it would be easier if the three layers were separated into three small matrixes. Each small matrix will contain neurons and when signals are inputted, the neurons will send inputs through the non-linear function to the next neuron. Afterward, the weight of the neuron is increased or decreased. Hence, the more the network is used, the more it will adapt and eventually it will produce results similar to a human expert. Training: The above section mentions the change of weight. The process of changing weight could be referred to as the "learning stage." ANN is like BNN and requires training. The training process is a series of mathematical operations that change the weights, so the user can obtain the output they desire. For example, the first time the network receives inputs; the outputs are some random numbers. The user then has to tell the network what the outputs should be and an algorithm should be applied so the weights are changed to get the outputs wanted. There are several formulas for this algorithm. And the most commonly used formula for simple networks is the following: &Delta Wi = &eta * (D-Y).Ii Where &Delta is the change made to the weights, &eta is the rate for adapting, D is the desired output, Y is the actual output and Ii is the inputs. The only difference is that the desire output would be the output that is sent to the next layer of neurons and the inputs are from the previous layer of neurons. The network stops training when (D-Y) is close or equal to zero because it demonstrates that the network can produce desired outputs.
RESERVOIR CHARACTERIZATION USING ANN The paper presented here is a part of comprehensif study “X Field Pertamina (Persero) DOH JBB”, which is intended to evaluate Reservoir Characteristic. The methodology used in this study takes advantage of the Neural Network to predict permeability and porosity with acceptable accuracy. The approach used in this study is described in the following sections. Characterizing a reservoir is a very complex task, due to heterogeneity. Heterogeneous reservoirs are known for the large changes in their properties within small area. Distinct geological ages, nature of rock, depositional environments are some of the reasons behind the heterogeneity of a formation. Reservoir characterization plays an important role in the petroleum industry, particularly, to the economic success of the reservoir development method. The purpose of this study is to develop a neural network model that can be used to predict permeability and porosity values throughout the reservoir using Well Logs which are available from wells. Permeability and porosity from cored wells are limited only from 4 – 10 metres but formation thickness can be more than 100 metres. Then to predict uncored permeability and porosity are used ANN method. Data from cored (permeability and porosity) together with logs data are used as data training into ANN network. Complete training will be achieve if mean square error (MSE) less than any value (for instance 0.001) or coeeficient correlation between actual data and output data is near 1.0. ANN method is one of the latest technologies available to solve prediction problems. The objective of this paper was to predict reliable Table 1: TBN-07 Porosity Result Training permeability and porosity values from geophysical logs data. There are three steps data processing : Data training ; Data verification ; and Prediction. We use cored data for Training and Verification, and uncored logs data for Prediction. DATA COLLECTION Reservoir “X” is the most important reservoir in DOH JBB. Reservoir “X” now is under developing with 3 injection wells, 2 observation wells and 16 production wells. For the purpose of cost effectiveness, coring only take from specific well such : TBN-07, TBN-08 and TBN-18. TBN-07 cored is from 1937.64 to 1943.65 metres. TBN-08 from 2020.05 to 2026.0 metres, and TBN-18 from 2183.0 to 2192.3 metres. Geophysical well logs are available from most of the wells in the field.l. Geophysical logs are

CONCLUSIONS & RECOMENDATION 1. The ANN model developed was successfully applied to predict the porosity but not so good to predict the permeability in the uncored formation. 2. The techniques using ANN can make more accurate and reliable reservoir properties estimation. 3. The ability of ANN to learn from experience and then generalize learning result to solve the problems. 4. The result that aaproach used by applying ANN is usefull for predicting of porosity. 5. The comparation between actual and calculated porosity show a good correlation. 6. ANN method can be also used to develop porosity distribution if cored porosity data are available enough entire most of wells. REFERENCES 1. Lin, Tim : “Neural Network : The Solution to True AI”. 2. NUMERICAL SIMULATION STUDY ON DUAL HORIZONTAL WELLS STEAM ASSISTED GRAVITY DRAINAGE Maman Djumantara, Petroleum Engineering Dept. Trisakti University Reza Iskandar, Petroleum Engineering Dept. Trisakti University
Abstract Reservoir simulation of injection and production well geometries for parallel horizontal wells with varied steam injection schedules was used to investigate recovery from primary production, displacement and gravity drainage processes. This revealed that the recovery following primary depletion is improved by placing the injector close to the top of the formation and the producer near the bottom. Once the steam chamber between injector and producer is formed and continues, the gravity drainage mechanism becomes dominant. This regime is described as SAGD. There remain some arguments on whether the SAGD mechanism is working field operations, and on what oil rates can be achieved in the long run. In an attempt to answer these questions, numerical simulation studies were pursued in the present work. The studies focused on two aspects: (1) the formation of steam chamber and (2) the potential oil rates that could be expected under possible field operating conditions. This paper presents a general methodology based on numerical investigations to obtain and maintain an optimized development of the chamber throughout the production life of the wellpair. First, the methodology is explained on a synthetic case and applied to a real field case example. Field data then is used to evaluate how the oil production could have been enhanced and optimized further. The result shows that the present of different spacing wells between steam injector and producer yields to different oil recovery. And the oil production is insensitive to steam injection rate. More sensitivity analysis also will be more discussed on the paper. INTRODUCTION
down-flow of oil emulsions will rapidly advance and produce the immobile oil.
When more fields approaching maturity and abandonment, recovery options are required for more difficult to produce reservoirs. Specifically, heavy oil reservoirs hold tremendous petroleum resources that are not utilized to their fullest potential. Worldwide there are also large heavy-oil and bitumen deposits in Indonesia, Canada, Venezuela, China, and the former Soviet Union. Methods are needed to produce effectively heavy oil. One possible option is steam assisted gravity drainage (SAGD).
Stable gravity displacement is particularly important to reach a favorable energy balance. The heated oil remains always in contact with the heated region, as it gets drained along the sidewalls of the steam chamber. Thus, energy losses from heated oil, which has not been produced, are minimized. On the economic standpoint, SAGD is thus very interesting because it combines high flow rates due to horizontal wells and favorable energy balance.
One of the most successful methods for this type of reservoir is by using dual horizontal well steam assisted gravity drainage. The steam assisted gravity drainage concept is a counter-current process driven by the buoyant forced created by density difference between steam and liquid phase. Two horizontal wells are placed one above the other near the bottom of the formation. The top horizontal well is used to supply steam into a steam chamber that grows above it. The bottom well collects the produced liquids (formation water, condensate, and oil emulsions). The rising steam condenses on the boundary of the chamber heating the heavy oil which under gravity flows to the production well. Provided that fluid communication had been established between the injection and production wells for extra heavy oil, a continuous counter-current flow consisting of rising steam and No. 1/2006
A steam chamber is formed above the well and the steam is injected continuously into this chamber by means of another horizontal well placed close to and usually somewhat above the production well. In some applications the injection well may be a vertical well rather than a horizontal well. In reservoir containing mobile oil, a horizontal injection well placed higher in the reservoir, rather than low down, can be used with advantage. The steam pressure is usually maintained constant during much of the process. The chamber is surrounded by colder oil sand. Steam flows through the sand within the chamber to the interface and condenses. The liberated heat is conducted into the colder oil sand. This heats the oil near the condensation surface and allows it to drain by gravity to the production well. The condensate also drains. As the oil is removed, the steam chamber 43
grows upwards and sideways. The pressure within the steam chamber remains essentially constant. Flow is caused by gravity. Oil and steam condensate drain downwards and steam rises. Successful application of the gravity drainage process for extra heavy oil has been demonstrated at STARS CMG. The STARS CMG provided useful information regarding field implementation of gravity drainage concept and demonstrated that oil can be economically produced and high reservoir depletion achieved. DESCRIPTION OF SAGD MODEL The model represents a typical heavy and cold oil reservoir. The operating conditions and well completion are modified to develop additional cases. Grid System Shown in Figure 5, the grid system is Cartesian immediately around the 800 m long well. The length in X is equal to 1400 meters whereas the z section is equal to 19.6 meters of height. The dimension made at this research was 29 x 25 x 8, the initial average reservoir pressure is 2,654 kPa the pressure distribution is hydrostatic, and the reservoir temperature is 16 °C. An element of symmetry, with one boundary lying along the wellbore, is used to represent the reservoir volume. For x direction, the grid was set to first and last block’s length are 250 m, second and second last are 50 m and other blocks are equal of 32 m. For y direction, the grid was set t the first and last are 11 m, and the rest are 3 m. in y direction, the first and last layer are 2.6 m and 5 m whereas the rest are 2 m. Rock Properties Rock properties displayed in fig. 2 and 3 below shows the water-oil relative permeability and gasliquid relative permeability curves respectively. The horizontal permeability, Kh is 3400 md, whereas the vertical permeability, Kv is 680 md. Hence, the ratio Kh:Kv is about 5 to 1. The porosity of the whole layers in the reservoir model is homogeneous which is 33%. Fluid Properties A live, black-oil model is used. The initial oil phase is made up of 90% by mole oil component and 10% gas component. Oil viscosity at the initial reservoir temperature is 4000 mPa-s. Figure. 4 displays the viscosity versus temperature relationship. An increase of oil temperature to 100 °C decreases the oil viscosity to 30 mPa-s. The steam quality is 90%.

Operating Condition At the base case, the injector and producer are set with different wells spacing of 2 m. With setam injection flow rate of 1000 m3/day. At this study case, the length of the injector and producer are set equal because to it’s already proven that by not setting it in equal length lesser oil will be recovered where the length of these wells are 96 m. NUMERICAL SIMULATION STUDY OF SAGD PROCESS A sensitivity analysis of various reservoir parameters to gain a better understanding of their effect on production performance was conducted. Understanding the operating conditions to improve initial performance relates directly to understanding methods of heating the near-wellbore area at earlytime. A central idea realized here is that the nearwell region must be heated rapidly and efficiently for significant early-time response. The sensitivity analysis helps us to understand reservoir properties, fluid conditions, and well completion strategies where the process might be an appropriate production technique. During SAGD conditions, operating conditions are chosen so that the process operates near the original reservoir pressure of 2654 kPa. Maximum injection pressure was set slightly above initial reservoir pressure at 4000 kPa. And minimum production pressure was set slightly below initial reservoir pressure at 2230. The steam injection temperature was set to 250°C corresponds to a steam pressure of 3610 kPa, The oil rate was set to be 250 m3/day and maximum of 10000 m3/d to minimum of 250 m3/d steam injection rate. There will be about 10 sensitivity cases studied at the research to find the best case that could be applied to the field. First was to see the effect in additional horizontal section length towards the recovery and then continued to the producing and injection well spacing. The last one was to see the sensitivity of steam injection flow rate toward the recovery. The 10 scenarios are listed in Table 2. Figure 6 shows steam chamber rises vertically, initially until it reaches the top of the pay zone (15 m) after approximately 3650 days). After steam chamber reaches the top of the pay zone, it spreads horizontally near the top of the pay zone and continues to grow. The steam chamber eventually covers nearly the whole region after more than 10 years. Figure 7 shows the reduction of oil saturation due to the good quality of steam chamber. At the steam chamber region, the oil saturation is reduced to almost 0 %. While at Figure 8, the additional of water due to the condensation occur while the steam comes along the reservoir. Some steams are losing the energy to heat the cold and heavy oil Jurnal Teknologi Minyak dan Gas Bumi
then it condenses and placing their self in the bottom of the reservoir as water. Figure 9 shows the additional amount of gas saturation. As the steam heats the reservoir and forming the steam chamber region, some light components of oil vaporize that yields to the incremental amount of gas in the reservoir. SCENARIOS PREDICTION RESULT AND DISCUSSION From the cases ran, it could be decided which case would be the best case to be applied. The best selection results of each case are basically based on which case could give the highest cumulative oil production, highest cumulative gas production and lowest cumulative water production. And the running results for each case are as follows: Effects of Additional Horizontal Wellbore Section Length As can be seen from the figure 10, from the results of the additional of horizontal well bore section length sensitivity analysis, it is clearly notified the role of horizontal well bore section length towards the additional recovery. The longer the horizontal well bore section, the more oil recovery is going to be obtained as more oil drainage area is reached. But this is not always in that manner because when the horizontal well bore section length is extended more, there is significant reduce in cumulative oil recovery. It’s concluded that the oil flow rate is directly proportional to the length of horizontal well bore section and it has the maximum value for each of the length of the horizontal section. The reason for that is when the horizontal section is extended greater than the section provide with maximum oil flow rate, there will be high pressure loss on the section and besides, the section is closed or almost reaches the boundary therefore the energy of the reservoir which pushes the oil will be lesser, yields in the sooner reduction of reservoir pressure. In addition to that, here we could see the role of additional horizontal well bore section length toward the water and gas coning. As the length is extended there is a significant reducing in water and gas production. It is could be clearly seen from figures 11 and 12. Therefore it is suggested that application of additional horizontal well bore in the second case whose horizontal well bore section length is 224 m is promoted. Effects of Injector and Producer Wells Spacing From these three scenarios, the seventh scenario was the best in terms of higher cumulative oil and gas recovery. As distinctly seen from Figure 13, 14 and 15, this thing occurs because when shifting the injection well layer to layer 3, the steam chamber was formed at more stable condition. The steam No. 1/2006
chamber will grow upward, to the top of the reservoir, in order to achieve high vertical conformance. And when the injection layer is upper, the steam chamber will be faster in reaching that condition compared to other cases therefore more oil recovery will be the result. Changing the wells interval upper will decrease the water production even though it’s not that significant. Effects on Varieties of Steam Injection Flow Rate From these four cases, it has been proven that both increasing and reducing the steam injection rate won’t affect anything to the additional recovery of oil and gas as shown in figure 16. It is because the work flow of steam is not like as water or gas, which is in water or gas injection condition, adding more flow rate would sometimes increase the oil and gas recovery. But in steam injection, flow rate is really insensitive toward the additional oil recovery. The results from the sensitivity analysis suggest that application of additional length of horizontal well bore section (third case) would be favorable with spacing well, the steam horizontal injection well in layer 3 and producing well in layer 7 (seventh case). Increasing or reducing the steam injection rate wont affect anything in the additional oil and gas recovery therefore why should waste more money to increasing the injection rate if the additional recovery wont happen because the injection rate s insensitive toward the recovery. CONCLUSION 1. Increasing the horizontal well bore section length will generally affect to more additional oil recovery, reducing the production of water and gas (avoiding water and gas coning). 2. Well spacing plays really important role in determining the quality of steam chamber which yields to additional recovery but doest not show a significant role in reducing the water production. 3. Steam injection flow rate is insensitive towards the additional oil and gas recovery. 4. The reservoir must be sufficiently thick to allow significant vertical steam chamber growth, therefore it’s not too recommended when the thickness of the reservoir is thin. 5. The numerical model can be used to examine sensitivity of the process to various input parameter. It’s useful for obtaining temperature, oil saturation and pressure distributions throughout the process, which can be used to examine the process in greater detail.

Densitas lumpur 3. HPHT filtration loss @T=250 oF & ∆P=500 psi 4. Oil Water Ratio (OWR) 5. Emulsion Stability (ES) 6.
Timbangan digital 2. Multi mixer 3. Aging Cell 4. Rolling Oven 5. Fann Viscometer Model 35 (Gambar 1) 6. Emulsion Tester (Gambar 2) 7. Retort Kit 8. Mud Balance Pressurized 9. HPHT Filtration Loss 10. HPHT Fann Viscometer Model 70 (Gambar 3) 3. Seperti ditunjukan pada Tabel 3. a.

PENELITIAN PENGGUNAAN BIODIESEL KELAPA SAWIT SEBAGAI BAHAN ALTERNATIF OIL BASE MUD YANG RAMAH LINGKUNGAN Rudi Rubiandini, Teknik Perminyakan ITB Galih Cahyono, Teknik Perminyakan ITB Iik Sumirat, Teknik Perminyakan ITB Nugroho Susetyo, Teknik Perminyakan ITB
No. 1/2006
KOMPONEN OIL MUD
UJI LABORATORIUM Tahap pertama

Densitas lumpur (SG) 3. HPHT filtration loss @T=300 oF & ∆P=300 psi 4. Oil Water Ratio (OWR) 5. Emulsion Stability (ES) 6.

PROSES FRAKSINASI DAN PENCAIRAN GAS ALAM DI PT BADAK NGL, BONTANG KALIMANTAN TIMUR Verawaty, Teknik Perminyakan Universitas Trisakti Karnata Ardjani, Teknik Perminyakan Universitas Trisakti
No. 1/2006
