HUMAN MOTIVATION IN NON‐PROFIT ORGANIZATION CASE STUDY: SATOE INDONESIA Date of Examination: 8 August 2007 Date of Graduate: 27 October 2007 Undergraduate Programs, Bandung Institute of Technology, 2007 Advisor: Dr. Bambang Rudito, MA ABSTRACT Motivation is a power that appears from the inside of human psychology and it can make people do something. Human motivation is very influential to human’s daily performance. And human’s individual performance is very influential for organization’s overall performance. Individual motivation is often determine by incentive and for this case we will discuss about how to maintain human motivation without any incentive in non‐profit organization like Satoe Indonesia. Satoe Indonesia is one of the social organizations which are focusing in children education and development small medium enterprise. Satoe Indonesia is run by SBM‐ITB students where the members are not getting an incentive such as salary or any other related reward, and they give all their best performance in order to make a proper programs which can reflected their visions and missions. According to the former research results, a lot of Satoe Indonesia’s members feel that the inexistence of an incentive and reward become one of the main reason about their decreasing motivation. In this matter, several theories and SWOT analysis are used in order to solve the problem which is the decrease of individual motivation among Satoe Indonesia’s members. Based on the analysis result, those motivation problems can be solved by using TOWS matrix. The result, incentive can be obtained in another form which is experiences and network with universities, other organizations, companies, government, and societies. In conclusion, incentive must be exist in any kind of assignment that each individual got to do. The form of incentives is not have to be tangible like salaries or rewards but can only be intangible like experiences or other valuable life lessons.

Motivasi sangat berpangaruh kepada performa sehari‐hari manusia. Dan performa individu manusia sangat berpengaruh kepada performa organisasi secara keseluruhan. Performa individu manusia sangat dipengaruhi oleh pendapatan yang akan diraih dan dalam kasus ini kita akan membahas mengenai bagaimana mempertahankan motivasi manusia tanpa adanya suatu pendapatan di dalam organisasi non‐profit seperti Satoe Indonesia. Satoe Indonesia merupakan salah satu dari organisasi sosial yang memfokuskan kegiatanya kepada pendidikan anak‐anak dan pengembangan usaha kecil menengah. Satoe Indonesia dijalankan oleh mahasiswa SBM‐ITB dimana para anggotanya tidak mendapatkan pendapatan seperti gaji atau penghargaan lainya, dan mereka mengeluarkan semua performa terbaik demi membuat program yang akan dijalankan sesuai dengan fisi dan misi. Berdasarkan dari hasil riset yang telah dijalankan, banyak anggota dari Satoe Indonesia merasa bahwa ketiadaan pendapatan dan penghargaan menjadi salah satu alasan utama yang menurunkan motivasi mereka. Dalam hal ini, beberapa teori dan SWOT analisis digunakan untuk menyelesaikan masalah menurunnya motivasi di antara anggota Satoe Indonesia. Berdasarkan hasil analisis, problem motivasi itu dapat diselesaikan dengan menggunakan TOWS matriks. Hasilnya pendapatan dapat dihasilkan dengan bentuk lain seperti pengalaman dan jaringan dengan universitas, organisasi lainya, perusahaan, pemerintah, dan masyarakat. Kesimpulanya, pendapatan pasti ada di semua bentuk pekerjaan yang harus di lakukan. Bentuk dari pendapatan tidak harus dapat dilihat seperti gaji

atau penghargaan, tetapi dapat berbentuk sesuatu yang tidak dapat dilihat seperti pengalaman atau pelajaran hidup yang berharga.

Thank god to Allah SWT where give mercy to my final project. This final
project will be my last assignment as a student, and this is the indicator that I have finished my under graduate programs. It is my duty as a Vice President of Human Resource and Management in Satoe Indonesia to solving problems that connected to human resource in the organization. I hope this final project will be the guidance for the next leader of Satoe Indonesia to solving the same problems that this final project does.
To increase the organization performance, then it will needs good
performance from the members in order to achieve the organization vision. All the activity that strive to completeness can’t run smoothly without the motivation from the person behind. Motivation is very important in building human spirit to doing anything. Due‐to does circumstances, all the effort to raise the motivation is needed by all organization to perform best performance.
