T1: War war = a conflict between countries or nations • reasons 2 groups fighting for the control of the country (civil war) different religions •
results - damage of country (private and public property – factories, institutions, houses…) - death of innocent people - economic impact – poverty - broken families (orphans – children without parents)
• current conflicts: Afghanistan, Iraq… + terrorist attacks
T1: Crime crime = an illegal act or activity against the law • key expressions victim – criminal – crime – to be arrested – court case – judge – punishment – prison • forms stealing (from houses = burglary, bank = robbery, shop = shoplifting), murder, fraud (money that is not yours), kidnap (a person), blackmailing (threatening letter)…. • reasons not enough money (difficult life situation), drugs, alcohol, mental illness, lack of morality, war conflict… • punishment fine (money), prison (2 years/ life sentence, death penalty…)

T1: Natural disasters natural disaster = an unexpected event caused by nature - it causes damage or death
• types of disasters flood = a big amount of water covering area that is usually dry earthquake = the shaking of the ground hurricane = a violent storm with very strong winds volcano eruption = hot gas and lava comes out from the mountain avalanche = a large mass of snow falling down the mountain
• impacts of natural disasters destroyed buildings damage of nature – forest (by storm) people – injured/ die lost of property (house, personal things, animals...) psychical problems (fear of...) • natural disasters typical for our country flood (streams, rivers – mostly spring time) thunderstorm (strong wind and lightning – usually in summer) little avalanche (mountains: Krkonoše)
T2 – Teenage problems • SMOKING reason to start: classmates, friends, to be cool, smoking parents, smoking celebrities/ idols… dangers: addiction (you cannot stop) health impact: lung cancer, yellow teeth, fingers… other: price of cigarettes (expensive) – crime (stealing money)
• ALCOHOL reason to start: friends, to be cool, parties, discos… dangers: addiction, lose control of yourself health impact: problem with concentration, damaging livers other: crime - damaging things, causing car accidents, hurting people (fights)
• DRUGS reason to start: classmates, friends, to be cool, to try sth. new/ forbidden dangers: addiction (you cannot stop), crime (get money for drugs), lost of job/ family/property… health impact: soft drugs (marihuana…) – problem with concentration, memory…, hard drugs (heroin, pervitin…) – permanent damage of health (basic living functions), diseases (AIDS…) • SCHOOL PROBLEMS reason: difficult school subjects, bad choice of school (not interesting/useful for future), problems with teachers (strict), bad behaviour to teachers, classmates (disturbing in lesson…)
types of problems: • playing truant (not going to school), • bullying (physical – hitting/ hurting people x mental calling names, ignoring someone…) • arguments with teachers/ classmates, • bad school results (bad marks) • PARENTS
reason: not getting on, generation gap (difference between generations – different opinions on things), parents are too strict (they don´t accept boyfriend/girlfriend) • OTHER
