ABSTRAK Judul skripsi ini adalah The American Dream in Arthur Miller’s The Death of Salesman. Skripsi ini merupakan analisis tentang ambisi dan mimpi orang-orang Amerika pada sekitar tahun 1920-an., khususnya ambisi orang-orang Amerika yang ada di play The Death of Salesman yang pada hal ini saya khususkan hanya pada satu tokoh saja.. Tujuan penulisan ini skripsi ini adalah agar pembaca dapat mengetahui ambisi-ambisi dan mimpi apa saja yang terdapat pada play The Death of Salesman ini, sejauh mana play ini menjadi refleksi dari ambisi dan mimpi orang-orang Amerika, dan apa saja yang menjadi dampaknya.hasil yang diperoleh dari analisis ini adalah bahwa kepuasan materi sangat mempengaruhi kehidupan orang Amerika terutama Willy Loman, tokoh utama dalam play ini. Dia sangat berambisi untuk mencapai kepuasan materi seperti rumah, uang, kesuksesan, kekayaan, kehormatan, persamaan hak dsb sehinnga orang-orang disekitarnya akan menaruh rasa hormat dan simpati padanya.
