ABSTRAK
Skripsi ini berjudul Contrastive anlysis of prefixes in English and Karonese language. Bahasa yang dijadikan sebagai acuan atau bahasa sumber ialah bahasa inggris dan bahasa karo sebagai bahasa sasaran. Objek kajian yang dianalisis adalah awalan. Dari 66 prefix atau awalan dalam bahasa Inggris, hanya 11 prefix atau awalan yang sering digunakan yang dijadikan data analisis yaitu Re-, Super-, Trans-, Pre-, Inter-, Under-, Over-, Dis-,In-, Mis-, Un- dan sebelas awalan yang ada dalam bahasa karo yaitu N-, Er-, Me-, Pe-, PeN-, Per-, I-, Ter-, Ci-, Ki-, and SeN-. Metode yang digunakan dalam pengumpulan data adalah metode kepustakaan. Data dianalisis dengan metode analisis kontrastif deskriptif kualitatif. Cara yang digunakan untuk menganalisis prefix atau awalan dari kedua bahasa yaitu dengan mendeskripsikan awalan – awalan dari kedua bahasa dari segi bentuk, distribusi, fungsi, dan arti. Sebagai hasil dari analisa kontrastif prefix atau awalan dalam bahasa Inggris dan Bahasa Karo ditemukan bahwa dari segi bentuk, prefix atau awalan dari kedua bahasa yang dibandingkan bekorespondensi sebagian. Dari segi distribusi, prefix atau awalan dari kedua bahasa yang dibandingkan berkorespondensi sebagian. Dari segi fungsi,prefix atau awalan dari kedua bahasa yang dibandingkan berkorespondensi sebagian. Dari segi arti, prefix atau awalan dari kedua bahasa yang dibandingkan tidak berkorespondensi.
