ABSTRACT
Gender discrimination is an unequal condition because of social structure where men or women are the victim of that system. It happens as the consequences of role and status differentiation between men and women, inherited from the history, culture and norm existing in the society. Death Of A Salesman consists of chapters that tells about a woman named Linda Loman who is repressed by her husband and people around her for being a woman. In writing this thesis, the writer did a library study. The writer tried to obtain and collect data including books, articles, and internet sites as many as possible. As the basis to analyze the problem formulation, the writer used gender studies. How the discriminations are presented and encountered, and how the United States society is presented in the drama are going to be further discussed in the study. To obtain the objectives, this study applies feminism approach. The study shows that the society in Death Of A Salesman considers women as a second-class citizen. Gender discrimination happened in the status of age and education. The female characters in the drama experiences gender discriminations due to their sex. Trough the character of Linda, the author tries to include loyalty and respect as important factors for woman to firmly maintain their own dignity.

ABSTRAK
Diskriminasi gender adalah keadaan yang tidak setara dari struktur dan sistem sosial dimana baik laki-laki ataupun perempuan adalah korban dari sistem tersebut. Hal tersebut terjadi sebagai konsekuensi pembedaan status dan peran antara laki-laki dan perempuan yang diwariskan dari sejarah, kebudayaan dan norma yang ada di dalam masyarakat. Drama Death Of A Salesman terdiri dari beberapa bab-bab yang menceritakan seorang wanita bernama Linda Loman yang dihina oleh suaminya dan orang –orang di sekitarnya karena menjadi seorang wanita. Dalam penulisan thesis ini, penulis melakukan studi perpustakaan. Penulis berusaha untuk mengambil dan mengumpulkan data yang termasuk di dalamnya berasal dari buku-buku, artikel-artikel, dan situs-situs internet sebanyak mungkin. Sebagai dasar untuk menganalisa formulasi masalah, penulis menggunakan studi gender. Bagaimana diskriminasi tersebut digambarkan dan dihadapi, dan bagaimana hubungannya dengan masyarakat Amerika Serikat, akan dibahas lebih jauh dalam studi ini. Untuk memperoleh jawabannya, studi ini menggunakan pendekatan feminisme. Studi ini menunjukkan bahwa masyarakat di dalam drama Death Of A Salesman yang memandangn wanita sebagai warga negara kelas dua. Gender yang terjadi pada status umur dan pendidikan. Pelaku wanita dalam drama ini mengalami diskriminasi gender karena jenis kelaminnya. Melalui pelaku Linda, penulis mencoba untuk memasukkan kesetiaan dan kehormatan sebagai faktor penting bagi wanita untuk menjaga kehormatan mereka sendiri.
