Salicilna kiselina, kao i njeni derivati su biološki aktivna jedinjenja, a veći broj ovih jedinjenja se koristi u prevenciji oboljenja izazvanih oksidacionim stresom. Novija istraživanja ukazuju da steroidna jedinjenja, koja u strukturi imaju salicilnu kiselinu ispoljavaju pored ostalih bioloških aktivnosti, i antioksidantno delovanje. S obzirom na gore pomenute činjenice, jedan od ciljeva projekta je sinteza novih saliciloiloksi derivata estrona, estradiola i androstana. Pored pomenutih, sintetizovaće se odabrani derivati salicilne kiseline sa D-seko steroidnim jedinjenjima estranske i androstanske serije.
Salicylic acid and their derivatives are biologically active compounds and some of them are used in prevention of deseases caused by oxidative stress. Recent studies suggested that a steroidal compounds, which have salicylic acid in their structure, exhibit among other biological activity, antioxidant activity. In view of the above facts, the aim of this project is the synthesis of new salicyloiloxy estrone, estradiole and androstane derivatives. The research also includes the synthesis of derivatives of salicylic acid with selected D-seco steroidal compounds in estrane and/or androstane series.

A prosztatarák és az emlőrák a leggyakoribb daganatok közé tartoznak és egyben vezető halálozási okok is. Ezek a daganatok az esetek többségében szteroidhormon-függőek és hatásosan kezelhetők antiandrogén vagy antiösztrogén terápiával. A nemi szteroidok hatásának megvonása előidézhető receptor antagonistákkal, az agyi tróphormonok szupressziójával, vagy akár sebészi kasztrációval, de a hatás sem nem specifikus, sem nem teljes. Az antiandrogén vagy az antiösztrogén hatás elérhető a szteroidhormon bioszintézis kaszkád kulcsenzimeinek gátlásával is. A 17α-hydroxylase/C17,20 -lyase inhibitorai a szteroid bioszintézis mellékvesékben és nemi mirigyekben lejátszódó kezdeti lépéseit képesek gátolni. Ezek a gyógyszermolekulák (pl.: az Abiraterone) így a szteroid szinteknek és a hormonális hatásnak szisztémás csökkenését képesek előidézni. Az 5α-reduktázok a tesztoszteront egy még aktívabb androgénné, az 5α-dihidrotesztoszteronná az egyes perifériás célszervekben, például a prosztatában alakítják át. A folyamat gátlása (pl.: Finasteride-del, vagy Dutasteride-del) lokális és specifikus antiandrogén hatást eredményez. Az aromatáz inhibitorok (pl.: a Formestane and Exemestane) a vérbe keringő ösztrogének szintjének csökkentése mellett a rákos emlőszövetben kórosan fokozott expressziójú enzimet is képesek gátolni. Az utóbbi években a szteroidogenezis alternatív útvonalainak, köztük a 3α-, a 3β-, illetve a 17β-hidroxiszteroiddehidrogenáz enzimeknek a kórélettani jelentősége is figyelmet kapott, és kutatások tárgyát képezi az inhibitoraiknak a lehetséges orvosi alkalmazása is.
Prostate and breast cancers are among the most common tumours and the leading causes of mortality. These tumours are mostly steroid hormone dependent and can be treated effectively with antiandrogen or antiestrogen therapy. Withdrawal of sex steroid action may be achieved by receptor antagonists, by suppression of neural trophormones, as well as by surgical castration, but the effects are neither specific, nor complete. Inhibition of key enzymes in the biosynthetic cascade of the steroid hormones is another feasible strategy to achieve antiandrogenic or antiestrogenic effect. Inhibitors of 17α-hydroxylase/C17,20 -lyase can block early steps of steroid biosynthesis taking place both in the adrenals and the gonads. These drug molecules (e. g. Abiraterone) may cause, therefore, systemic decline in steroid levels and in hormonal effects. 5α-reductases transform testosterone to a more active androgen 5α-dihydrotestosterone in peripheral target organs, such as prostate. Inhibition of this process (by e. g. Finasteride and Dutasteride) evolves a local and specific antiandrogenic effect. Aromatase inhibitors (e. g. Formestane and Exemestane) can decrease circulating estrogen levels, as well as they able to block the overexpressed enzyme in the cancerous breast tissue. In recent years, pathophysiological relevance of alternate pathways of steroidogenesis including enzymes with 3α-, 3β-, or 17β-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase activity received attention and possible medical application of their inhibitors is also under investigation. Development of antiandrogens and antiestrogens acting on enzyme level is a promising field of the anticancer research. The antiproliferative effect of these inhibitor compounds can also be applied in the treatment of other steroid dependent, non-malignant neoplasias, e. g. benign prostatic hyperplasia and endometriosis. The targeted antihormonal effect provides also good options for effective drug therapies of further endocrine diseases caused by hypersecretion or excessive signalling of certain steroid hormones.
Enzimszinten ható antiandrogének és antiösztrogének kifejlesztése ígéretes területe a rákellenes kutatásoknak. Ezen inhibitor vegyületek antiproliferatív hatása más szteroidfüggő, jóindulatú neopláziák, például az endometriózis és a benignus prosztata hiperplázia kezelésében is alkalmazhatók. A célzott antihormonális hatás gyógyszeres kezelési lehetősét nyújt további, az egyes szteroidok hiperszekréciója, illetve fokozott jelátvitele által okozott endokrin betegségekben is.

Steroidal compounds, such as androgens and estrogens, are biologically active and very important compounds in metabolic processes. Breast and prostate cancers are among the most common tumours, and affect a large population of women and men. These tumours are mostly steroid hormone dependent and can be treated successfully with an antiandrogen or antiestrogen drug therapy. On the other hand, salicylic acid and its derivatives are well-known as biologically active substances. A various salicylic acid derivatives have analgesic, anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, antifungal, antirheumatical and antiseptical characteristics.
Steroidna jedinjenja, kao što su androgeni i estrogeni su biološki aktivna jedinjenja i veoma su značajni u metaboličkim procesima. Karcinomi dojke i prostate su danas među najrasprostranjenijim tumorima koji pogađaju veliku populaciju žena i muškaraca. Ovi tumori su pre svega hormon zavisni i uspešno se mogu lečiti u terapiji sa antiandrogenima ili antiestrogenima. S’druge strane, salicilna kiselina i njeni derivati su poznati kao biološki aktivna jedinjenja. Veliki broj salicilnih derivata pokazuje analgetske, antiinflamatorne, antifungalne, antireumatske i antiseptičke karakteristike. Iz navedenih razloga, glavni cilj ovog projekta je sinteza novih mono- i bis- salicilnih derivata različitih steroidnih jedinjenja, u estranskoj ili androstanskoj seriji, primenom konvencionalnog zagrevanja ili mikrotalasnog ozračivanja, a sve u cilju ispitivanja njihove pretpostavljene antihormonske i antitumorske aktivnosti.
For these reasons, main objective of this project is synthesis of new mono- and bissalicyloyl derivatives of different steroidal compounds in the estrane and androstane series, by conventional heating or microwave irradiation, in order to investigate their presumed antihormonal and anticancer effect.

Da bismo ispitali biološku aktivnost nekih steroidnih derivata salicilne kiseline, sintetisano je više mono- i bis-derivata salicilne kiseline iz različitih estranskih serija. Struktura ispitivanih jedinjenja je određena rendgenskom strukturom analizom i zatim podvrgnuta molekularno mehaničkim proračunima (MMC) radi određivanja konformacije molekula u energetskom minimumu. Komparacija kristalne i MMC strukture je pokazala da konformacije molekula ostaju stabile, ne menjaju se, i u energetskom minimumu. Ovo je potvrđeno i poređenjem odgovarajućih torzionih uglova u kristalnoj i MMC strukturi istog molekula.
In order to investigate the biological activities of steroidal salicylic acid derivatives we synthesized mono-, and bis-salicyloyl derivatives of different estrone series. X-ray structure analysis and molecular mechanics calculations (MMC) were performed for compounds to define the conformations in terms of energy minima. A comparison of crystal and MMC structure revealed that the conformation of molecules remains stable at their energy minima. This was confirmed by comparing selected torsion angles of molecules, which were obtained from crystal structure analyses and after MMC.
Intramolekulsko vodonično vezivanje je veoma značajno za razumevanje različitih molekularnih svojstava, što uključuje molekularnu geometriju i stabilnost dominantnih konformacija, a samim tim i za razumevanje biološke aktivnosti. Na osnovu naših analiza, prisustvo intramolekularnih vodoničnih veza stabilizuje konformaciju ispitivanih jedinjenja, dok odsustvo intermolekularnih vodoničnih veza u kristalnom pakovanju takođe može biti jedan od glavnih razloga za stabilne molekulske konformacije.
Information on intramolecular hydrogen bonding is very important for understanding various molecular properties, including molecular geometry and the stability of predominant conformations, and, consequently, the biological activity of the compound of interest. Based on our analyses, the presence of intramolecular hydrogen bonds appears to stabilize the conformations of the investigated compounds, while the absence of significant intermolecular hydrogen bonding in the crystal packing could be the main reason for their stable molecular conformations.

Imre Ignáth A 17β-hidroxiszteroiddehidrogenáz 2-es típusú izozim in vitro gátlása RECODAC vegyületekkel In vitro inhibition of 17β-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase type 2 by RECODAC compounds • •

Belgyógyászati Klinika, Szegedi Tudományegyetem 1st Department of Medicine, University of Szeged Androgens and estrogens may play crucial roles in the development and progression of hormone dependent tumours. Inter-conversions between these hormonal steroids and their prehormones are catalyzed by 17β-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase isozymes. We investigated inhibitory effect of 55 novel RECODAC compounds exerted on 17β-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase type 2 (17β-HSD2) isozyme. Enzyme activity and its inhibition were investigated by the testosteroneandrostenedione conversion via in vitro radiosubstrate incubation technique. In this method, 14 C-testosterone substrate was incubated in 37°C for 20 min in the presence of NAD coenzyme and female rat liver microsomal preparate was used as an enzyme source. Following the enzyme reaction the androstenedione formed and testosterone remained were extracted by ethyl acetate and isolated with thin-layer chromatography. Enzymatic conversion was calculated from the radioactivity of labelled substrate and product. Inhibitory potentials were first screened with relative conversions measured at 50 µM concentration of the test compounds. For more potent inhibitors, IC50 values were determined.
Az androgéneknek és az ösztogéneknek fontos szerepük van a hormonfüggő daganatok kialakulásában és progressziójában. A szteroidhormonok és prehormonjaik közti átalakulást a 17β-hidroxiszteroid dehidrogenáz izozimek katalizálják. 55 új RECODAC vegyület gátló hatását vizsgáltuk a 17β-hidroxiszteroiddehidrogenáz 2 (17β-HSD2) izozim aktivitására. Az enzimaktivitást és annak gátlását in vitro radioszubsztrát inkubációs technikával a tesztoszteron-androszténdion átalakuláson vizsgáltuk. A mérések során 14 C-tesztoszteron szubsztrátumot inkubáltunk 37°Con, 20 percen keresztül NAD koenzim jelenlétében, az enzimforrás nőstény patkány májból származó mikroszóma preparátum volt. Az enzimatikus reakció során keletkező androszténdiont és a maradék tesztoszteront etil-acetáttal extraháltuk, majd vékonyrétegkromatográfiás eljárással izoláltuk. Az enzimatikus átalakulás mértékét a jelzett szubsztrátum és termék radioaktivitásának mérésével határoztuk meg. A tesztvegyületeket enzimaktivitásgátlását először 50 µM-os koncentrációjuknál mért relatív konverziókkal vizsgáltuk. A hatásosabb inhibitor vegyületek esetében IC50 értéket határoztunk meg.
Among steroidal picolines, 3-hydroxy form of the 17-picolinyldiene derivatives, the AJ6 and AJ11 exerted substantial 17β-HSD2 inhibition, IC50 values were found to be 3.8 and 1-5 µM. Steroidal salicylates with 3-oxo function on the saturated A-ring proved to be also modest inhibitors (IC50=5.6 µM and 2.7 µM for the KG18 and KG19, respectively). Their estrane counterpart KG14 was, however, a more efficient inhibitor, IC50=0.59 µM. Non-steroidal salicylates exhibited weak inhibitory effect, with the exception of the trisalicylate KG12 compound (IC50=1.0 µM).
A szteránvázas picolinok közül a 17-picolinyldiének 3-hydroxy formái, az AJ6 és az AJ11 vegyületek mutattak hatékony 17β-HSD2 gátlást, IC50 értéküket 3.8 µM-nak, valamint 1-5 µM-nak találtuk. Jó inhibitornak mutatkoztak még a telített A-gyűrűn 3-oxo funkciós csoporttal bíró szteroid-szalicilátok (a KG18 és a KG19 vegyületekre az IC50 értéke 5.6 µM-nak és 2.7 µM-nak adódott). E vegyületek ösztrán párja, a KG14 vegyület igen jó gátlónak bizonyult, IC50 értéke 0.59 µM volt. A nemszteroid típusú szalicilátok gyengébb gátlóhatást mutattak, kivétel a triszalicilát KG12 vegyület, amelynek IC50 értéke 1.0 µM-nek adódott.
In conclusions, 17β-HSD2 inhibition results of RECODAC compounds provides interesting structureactivity relationship data, and indicate that these compounds may possibly be promising target molecules of steroid biotransformation inhibitor research.
Összefoglalva, a vizsgált RECODAC vegyületek 17β-HSD2 gátlási eredményei érdekes szerkezethatás összefüggéseket szolgáltatnak, amelyek azt mutatják, hogy ezen vegyületek célmolekulák lehetnek a szteroid biotranszformáció inhibitorainak kutatásában.

Microwave-assisted organic synthesis (MAOS) is a technique that drastically reduces the reaction time, contributing to a significant increase in yield, reducing the proportion of byproducts, but also enables reactions to the absence of a solvent which is why it is widely accepted by the “Green chemistry”.
U novije vreme raste interes za mikrotalasnoposredovanu organsku sintezu o čemu svedoči činjenica da stalno raste broj objavljenih radova koji koriste ovu tehniku. Mikrotalasna sinteza je tehnika koja drastično skraćuje vreme trajanja reakcije, doprinosi značajnom povećanju prinosa, smanjenju udela nusprodukata, ali i omogućava reakcije u odsustvu rastvarača zbog čega je svrstana u oblast „Zelene hemije“. Cilj ovog projekta je sinteza novih saliciloil derivata odabranih steroidnih jedinjenja u svrhu ispitivanja njihove pretpostavljene biološke aktivnosti primenom mikrotalasno-posredovane tehnike.

The 17-exo-heterocyclic steroids are able to exert a great variety of biological effects. Several members of this group of compounds inhibit activity of steroid converting enzymes.
Számos új típusú 17-exo-heterociklusos szteroid szintézisét valósítottuk meg pregnenolonból kiindulva a Szegedi Tudományegyetem Szerves Kémiai Tanszéken készített MSc diplomamunkámban. Az előállított vegyületek C17-es helyzetben pirazolin gyűrűt tartalmaznak. A keletkezett epimerek nehezen elválasztható párt képeztek, elválasztásuk 3β-acetátjaik formájában volt megoldható.
Numerous new synthesis of 17-exo-heterocyclic steroids were realized from pregnenolone as part of my MSc diploma work prepared in the Department of Organic Chemistry, University of Szeged. The C17position of the compounds containe pyrazoline ring. The epimers were critical isomer pairs, which could be separated in their acetylated form. Effect of 17β-pyrazolinylandrostene derivatives exerted on the steroid hormone biosynthesis is under investigation within the research programme of my PhD fellowship in the First Department of Medicine, University of Szeged. Inhibitory potential against C17,20-lyase, 17β-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase type 2 (17β-HSD2) and 17β-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase type 3 (17β-HSD3) were investigated with in vitro radiosubstrate incubation techniques. Method of C17,20-lyase was performed with tritiated 17-hydroxyprogesterone substrate, NAPDH coenzyme and rat testicular homogenate as enzyme source. For 17β-HSD2, 14C-testosterone, NAD and rat liver microsoma were used. 17β-HSD3 activity was measured with the application of 14C-androstenedione, NADPH and rat testicular homogenate.
Az előállított 17β-pirazolil-androsztén származékaink szteroid bioszintézisre gyakorolt hatását a Szegedi Tudományegyetem I. sz. Belgyógyászati Klinikán vizsgáljuk PhD ösztöndíjas kutatómunkám keretében. A C17,20-liáz aktivitásra, a 17β-hidroxiszteroiddehidrogenáz 2-es típusú izozimre (17β-HSD2), valamint a 17β-hidroxiszteroid-dehidrogenáz 3-as típusú izozimre (17β-HSD3) gyakorolt gátló hatást in vitro radioszubsztrát inkubációkban mértük. A C17,20-liáz vizsgálatokban tríciált 17-hidroxiprogeszteron szubsztrátumot NADPH koenzim jelenlétében inkubáltunk, az enzimforrás patkány here homogenizátuma volt. A 17β-HSD2 esetében 14 C-tesztoszteront, NAD-ot, és patkány máj mikroszóma preparátumot alkalmaztunk. A 17β-HSD3 aktivitás mérésekhez 14C-androszténdiont, NADPH-t, és patkány here homogenizátumot használtunk.
The investigated twelve compounds (six 5’R and six 5’S epimers) did not inhibit C17,20-lyase and 17β-HSD3 activity in the testosterone biosynthetic pathway. Androstanedione producing reverse process catalyzed by the 17β-HSD2 was inhibited most efficiently by the (5’R)-3-chloro-phenyl, (5’R)- and (5’S)-3-cyano-phenyl and (5’S)-3-methoxy-phenyl substituted pyrazoline derivatives. IC50 values of these compounds were found 0,93, 1,71, 1,73 and 1,98 µM, respectively.
A vizsgált 12 vegyület (hat 5’R és hat 5’S epimer) egyike sem gyakorolt jelentős gátló hatást a tesztoszteron bioszintézishez vezető C17,20-liáz, illetve 17β-HSD3 aktivitásra. Az androszténdion visszaképződését katalizáló 17β-HSD2-t legjobban az (5’R)-3-klór-fenil, az (5’R)- és (5’S)-3-ciano-fenil és az (5’S)-3-metoxi-fenil szubsztituált pirazolin származékok gátolták. IC50 értékeik sorrendben 0,93, 1,71, 1,73, illetve 1,98 μM.
Our results provide better understanding on mechanisms of androstanedione and testosterone biosynthesis. Structure-activity relationships may contribute to the development of new drug molecules with specific hormonal or anti-hormonal effect.
Eredményeink új adatokat szolgáltatnak az androszténdion és a tesztoszteron bioszintézis mechanizmusának megismeréséhez, és új specifikus antihormonális hatású gyógyszerhatóanyagok kifejlesztéséhez járulhatnak hozzá.

S obzirom da fenolna jedinjenja pokazuju antioksidantnu i citotoksičnu aktivnost, sintetizovani su mono- i bis- derivati salicilne kiseline 1-10 transesterifikacijom metil-salicilata (metil 2-hidroksibenzoat) sa 3-oksapentan1,5-diolom, 3,6-dioksaoktan-1,8-diolom, 3,6,9-trioksaundekan-1,11-diolom, propan-1,2diolom i 1-aminopropan-2-olom u prisustvu natrijuma. Ispitana je antioksidantna aktivnost i citotoksičnost sintetizovanih derivata u seriji in vitro testova. Novosintetizovana jedinjenja pokazuju zadovoljavajuću antioksidantnu aktivnost, posebno jedinjenja 2, 5 i 8 koji su se pokazali kao bolji OH radikal „skevindžeri“ u odnosu na komercijalne antioksidanse 3,5-diterc-butil-4-hidroksitoluen (BHT) i 3-terc-butil4-hidroksianizol (BHA). Svi novosintetizovani saliciloil derivati pokazali su citotoksičnu aktivnost prema nekim ćelijama kancera. Najveću antiproliferativnu aktivnost prema ćelijama kancera prostate pokazala su jedinjenja 3, 4, 6, 9 i 10 sa vrednostima IC50 manjim od 10 µmol/L, i pri tome su 11-27 puta potentnija u odnosu na antitumorni lek doksorubicin. Sva novosintetizovana jedinjenja su netoksična prema MRC-5 zdravim ćelijama, dok je doksorubicin veoma toksičan.
Knowing that phenolic compounds manifest antioxidant and cytotoxic activity, monoand bis- salicylic acid derivatives 1–10 were synthesized by transesterification of methyl salicylate (methyl 2-hydroxybenzoate) with 3-oxapentane-1,5-diol, 3,6-dioxaoctane-1,8-diol, 3,6,9-trioxaundecane-1,11-diol, propane-1,2diol and 1-aminopropane-2-ol in presence of sodium and antioxidant activity and cytotoxicity of the synthesized derivatives were evaluated in a series of in vitro tests. The newly synthesized compounds showed satisfactory scavenger activity; especially compounds 2, 5 and 8 were better OH radical scavengers than commercial antioxidants 3,5-di-tert-butyl-4-hydroxytoluene (BHT) and 3-tert-butyl-4-hydroxyanisole (BHA). All new salicyloyl derivatives were selectively cytotoxic against of some tumor cells. The most potent antiproliferative potency against prostate cancer cells expressed compounds 3, 4, 6, 9 and 10, all with IC50 less than 10 µmol/L, which were 11-27 times more potent than doxorubicin, antitumor drug. All new compounds were no toxic against healthy MRC-5 cells, while doxorubicin was extremely toxic.

Obe regresione jednačine predviđaju opadanje IC50 (DPPH), tj. povećanje antioksidativne aktivnosti, u kongeneričnoj grupi bis salicilata ukoliko raste broj oksietilenskih jedinica. Naime, topološki molekulski deskriptor MTI raste sa povećanjem dužine spejsera između aktivnih centara molekula (salicilatnih grupa).
Both regression equations predict the IC50 (DPPH) decline, i.e. increased antioxidant activity in congeneric group of bis-salicylate molecules with the increase of number of oxyethylene units. The topological molecular descriptor MTI increases with increasing length of the spacer between the active sites of molecules (salyciloyl groups).

Pošto sa povećanjem oksietilenskih jedinica raste IC50 (DPPH) kao što raste i MTI. Duži oksietilenski lanac verovatno sterno otežava prihvatanje elektrona od strane fenolne OH grupe.
Along with the increase in oxyethylene units number, IC50 (DPPH) and MTI grow as well. Longer oxyethylene chain probably sterically hinders acceptance of electrons by the phenolic OH group.
Kako je korelacija između IC50 (DPPH) i IC50 (OH) velika (Pearsonova korelacija: 0,99999) kod obe kongenerične grupe, to jednačine (Eq. 1-3) važe i za opisivanje IC50 (OH), naravno sa drugim parametrima.
As the correlation between the IC50 (DPPH) and IC50 (OH) is high (Pearson correlation: 0.99999) in both congeneric groups, these equations (Eq. 1-3) are also valid for describing the IC50 (OH), of course, with other parameters.

Szeged is the 3rd-4th biggest and most important city of Hungary, nevertheless, definitely owns the very highest priority in its citizens’ heartand-soul. We consider our city rich in natural, architectural and cultural beauties: blond rivers with sunny beaches and slim bridges, squares with decorative buildings and green parks, impressive theatre, opera and ballet performances, exciting annual festivals, and the intellectual merit created in the University.
A Szegedi Tudományegyetem története évszázadokra nyúlik vissza. A nevében és székhelyében történt számos változás, valamint jó néhány átszervezés után egyetemünk jelenleg tizenkét karral működik, a bölcsészettudománytól kezdve, az orvostudományon keresztül, a zeneművészetekig terjedő területeket művelve. A professzori kar az 1700 további oktatóval együtt oktatja az egyetem 134 szakának harmincezer hallgatóját.
History of University of Szeged goes back for centuries. Following numerous changes in location and names, and after several reorganizations the University recently has twelve faculties covering disciplines from liberal arts, through medical sciences, to music. The professorial board, jointly with further 1700 readers teach more than thirty thousand students of the 134 professional fields. Biochemistry is a field with longest traditions in the University. We are particularly proud of Albert Szent-Györgyi’s discoveries on vitamin C, which earned not only a Nobel prize for him, but also a high reputation to the paprika of Szeged.
A biokémiai az egyik legnagyobb hagyományokkal bíró terület az egyetemen. Különösen büszkék vagyunk Szent-Györgyi Albertnek C-vitaminnal kapcsolatos felfedezéseire, amelyek a Nobel-díj mellet, a szegedi paprikának is nagy hírnevet szereztek.
The University of Szeged fulfilled a pioneering role in sciences of hormones and metabolism, too. A group, dedicated to the clinical and experimental endocrinology was established by physicians, internists, and clinical chemists of the First Department of Medicine in the early 1960s. Elapsed decades resulted in several successful international collaborations, numerous books and textbooks in the field, hundreds of high-ranked scientific articles, and at last but at least, thousands and thousands of recovered patients.
A Szegedi Tudományegyetem úttörő szerepet töltött be a hormon- és metabolizmus tudományokban is. Az I. sz. Belgyógyászati Klinika orvosaiból, belgyógyászaiból és klinikai vegyészeiből az 1960-as évek elején alakult a klinikai és kísérletes endokrinológiával foglalkozó csoport. Az azóta eltelt évtizedek több sikeres nemzetközi együttműködést, számos szak- és tankönyvet, színvonalas tudományos közlemények százait, és nem utolsó sorban gyógyult betegek ezreit és ezreit eredményezte.
