Krachtige Islay single malt whisky gerijpt in het vermaarde ‘Warehouse n°1’ gelegen net naast de kustlijn van het eiland aan de westkust van Schotland, is een terugkeer naar de roots voor de oude distilleerderij op Islay. Ardbeg - Rokerig, turf, robuust - 40° - 10 y. GOLD AWARD 2014
45.00 An explosion of crackling peat sets off millions of flavour explosions on the tongue: peat effervesces with tangy lemon and lime juice, black pepper pops with sizzling cinnamon-spiced toffee. This is followed by a wave of brine infused with smooth buttermilk, ripe bananas and currants. Smoke gradually wells up on the palate bringing a mouthful of warm creamy cappuccino and toasted marshmallows. As the taste lengthens and deepens, dry espresso, liquorice root and tarry smoke develop coating the palate with chewy peat oils. Ardbeg Uigeadail - Rokerig, turf, robuust - alcoholisch 54° ***** 64.95 Full flavoured and rich with a deep mouth-coating texture, the taste is an intriguing balance between sweet, spicy and deep smoky flavours. The flavour is initially sweet as Christmas cake begins to soak into the tongue. A burst of winter spices sets off a smoky-spicy explosion countered by a sumptuous mid-palate of honey glazed smoked food and chewy treacle. Waves of deep smoky tones and rich aromas build up on the palate like . Ardbeg Corryvreckan - 57° - **** 75.90 Plunge into the whirlpool and taste the mysterious depths of Corryvreckan. Torrents of taste well up on the palate; deep, peppery and chewy, bombarding the tongue with its intense tastes and textures. The first plunge brings forth chewy peppered steak soaked in pepper sauce with the tang of crispy seaweed. As you descend deeper, encounter a mouthful of black tarry espresso coffee that coats the palate with rich melted dark fruits (blackcurrants, blueberries and cherries) and bitter almonds. As the taste soaks in deeper, star anise and hickory dry out the palate before a surprise of chalky effervescent violets fizz to the surface. We all dig Ardbeg! The nose is immediately oily and salty, like cured ham and olives. Peat, surely, but a lot less than usual.

Caol Ila - 55.5° - 29 y. Cadenhead ***** Nieuw 169.00 Distilled in 1984, and bottled in 2013 with an outturn of 564 bottles. On the nose: Soft and mineraly. Salt light smoke. Very pleasant, no alcohol sting at all. Some citrus and freshly cut grass with a hint of mellom tobacco smoke. Subtle oranges after a while. Fabulous stuff this! Hints of clove with water added. More spice. Lemon oil, pine needles and crème brûlée. On the palate: Oily mouthfeel. Citrus and smoke. More than I anticipated. Big and mouthcovering. Salt and baked pears. Water makes it fruitier and sweeter with a hint of apple juice. The finish has oak, dry spices and unripe gooseberries. Sweeter with water. This is, in my opinion, Caol Ila at its best. Absolutely gorgeous whisky. Like drinking silk. Older bourbon matured Caol Ila seem to work really well. 92/100 points Springbank Campbeltown - 12y. 35,75 Lowland Single Malt Scotch Whisky - Distillery Bottling Nose: Cooked fruit, sherry, toffee, a rum-like quality and notes of Bas Armagnac distilled circa 1940. Palate: Rich. Liqueur cherries in dark chocolate, more sherried fruit, ripe dark forest fruits, like a Black Forest Gateaux. Finish: Superb, led by thick dark treacle and toffee notes and chewy wooded notes, balanced with a green fruit edge. Bladnoch - 43° - 15 y. 46,40 Colour: white wine. Nose: light but not weak at all at first sniff, extremely citrusy (pure lemon juice) and quite mashy as well. Lemon sprinkled porridge? Gets then a little more flowery (touches of lilies of the valley plus celery) and even vanilled but it’s the lemony freshness that prevails here. What’s more, I think Bladnoch is one of these malts that stand a low alcohol content like 40% the most beautifully. Mouth: not too bold of course but perfectly balanced, with again this huge lemon as well as hints of salt. Goes on on grains, orange drops, lemon pie… And the finish is rather long, still lemony but also with a little candy sugar and touches of bubblegum.

Revival is a stunning Highland single malt with a coastal charm. Colour: Copper Nose: Sweet caramel and toffee with notes of nutty sherry, milk chocolate and honey. Ripe plums, red berries and oranges. Caramelised sugar and earthy, charred oak. Palate: Sweet, rounded and creamy. Oranges, plums, cherry and walnuts, chocolate, honey-mead, sherry and soft, spiced oak. Finish: Medium with warming mulled-wine spices, sherry and caramel.
Glenglassaugh Highland “Evolution” Tennessee cask 50° ***** Nieuw
50.90 The signature Glenglassaugh spirit flavours of plums, pears and a bit of banana come through, there’s also peaches, a touch of citrus, a slight grassy note and it’s all wrapped up with lots of creamy vanilla. It doesn’t even come across as that youthful, certainly not spirity like most malts of this age, it seems easily 2-3 times older than it actually is, that’s what you get when you have well made spirit and good quality casks.
Tomatin Highlands Single Malt 15 y. 43° ****
This 15 year old was released in August 2009. It has a light, supple flavour profile, but with what Tomatin distillers describe as a “significant influence from the North American oak”. Nose: Gentle, balanced with orchard fruits, oak, blossom, orange too, creamy vanilla, toffee. Palate: Creamy and soft with a prominence of fruit and malt. Balanced, some toffee, caramel, citrus. Finish: A long, soft finish. Tomatin Highlands Single Malt 18 y. 46° **** 57.75 Nose: Delicious sweet sherry bursts up you, and plateaus with undertones of fresh apples, cinnamon, vanilla, maple syrup and a hint of smoky heather. Taste: Sweet and honeyed at first, with an oaky edge. Develops in the mouth with a bite of citrus and a hint of dark chocolate. The finish is long and lingering, with warming alcohol and smooth rich sherry, and it all keeps the mouth alive for several moments after. A world class single highland malt.

Richer and creamier on the nose with a splash of water, revealing dried apricots, honey, orange blossom and fresh-baked brioche, while the taste now is much more forward, showing minty caramel and sweet raisin toast. Benriach Highlands - Dark Rhum Barrel- 46° - 15 y. 49.50 Toasting: I can almost feel the dreadlocks seeping out of the top of my head when I drink this, the dark rum barrel used for creating this whisky has worked wonders both on the nose and the old taste buds. This doesn’t taste like rum as such but has some wonderful sugary, banana, toffee aromas which make me think back to walking along a Carabbean beach as the sun slowly sets behind me. Wonderful brown sugar and the banoffee pie you get from Pizza Hut on the palate, there is also a hint of cinnamon and maybe even fresh thyme, but I may having West Indian flash backs again.(F. Long known to blenders as a category ‘A’ malt, Balblair is a terrific malt whisky worthy of the renewed attention its 2007 makeover and thrilling vintage releases have bestowed. Nose: This one starts of fruity, with oranges, peaches and plums. But then it becomes more woody, and also a bit herbal after some time. Caramel appears as well. Taste: Warming palate. A bit salty and a hint of pepper, but then some lovely tropical fruit. As the nose suggests, a bit oaky. But the nice caramel and honey tones bring back the balance. 31.85 The nose is sweet and mildly smokey with dried tree fruit (think apricots, plums and cherries) along with vanilla and fruit cake. Also some tiny hints of green notes (very briefly), sherry and some more peat smoke (reek) but it’s very gentle and not overly strong however it’s all well in balance. The taste is gentle at first with some malt and then there’s a wee bit of a peat reek attack intermingled with the sweet sherry and some slight green notes and raw tobacco and leather which all becomes quite sweet at the end. It’s very nice. The finish is at first mildly peaty followed by some malt ad then some chocolate and dryness from the oak, more of the tobacco and leather (although very gentle) and then the sweetness and dryness, end over end. 79.00 Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt The nose is very pungent and full. Notes of sour citrus develop with rich peat smoke. Jura - 40° - 10 y. ***** 34.99 Isle of Jura 10yo is an accessible, easy-drinking malt. Medium-bodied with a delicate sweet palate, with a hint of brine developing on the finish. A great introductory malt. Excellent whisky that comes at a very good price. what strikes me about it is that it has that salty, iodide, seaside character that comes from its marine roots, but also a strong body which I like in highland whiskies. I enjoy it very much! (27/9/2014) Jura “Superstition” Lightly Peated - 43° ***** Nieuw 42.00 Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt Nose: Gristy and quite like new make. This is a young whisky, though it offers up the same evocative smoke and heady malt that you’d expect from an older Jura. It’s quite sweet and creamy, and reminds us of Chantilly cream. Palate: Sweet and porridge-like. A cereal fest on the tongue, with hints of white pepper and black forest honey with hot buttered toast. Oily. Finish: Medium length with hints of honey and spice on the tail. Jura - 40° - 16 y. ***** 56.00 Isle of Jura 16 Bottling Note This 16 year old from the Isle of Jura was a bronze medal winner at the 2004 International Wine and Spirits Competition. Nose: Fragrant, slightly floral cereal, some minerality at first, becoming increasingly creamy with a hint of orange. Mixed nuts, redcurrant, green apple and finally dark chocolate and spice. Palate: Oily and resinous with sweet tobacco, mixed nuts, clove, milk chocolate and violet. Rich and round. Finish: Drying, fragrant oak. After a few sips some chocolate lingers too. Arran “Orkney Bere Barley” - Cask Strength -56.2 **** Nieuw 68.00 Colors: Ripe golden bere. Aroma: Malty hertal initially with hints of vanilla and freshly cut bay. A veritable hedgerow of aromas is at play whilst honey and sweet fruits emerge with a dash of water against a back-drop of rich toasted oak. Palate: Rip apples and oak dominate at first before a full-bodled speciness envelopes the palate and ents trough the sweetness. Finish: The bold malt re-appears to mingle beautttifull with the spices which soften over time. The influence of the Bere Barley is dramatic and unmistakeable: offering a taste of whisky as taste of whisky as it used to be.

Colour: eucalyptus honey. On the nose: Wave of citrusy sweetness. Lemons, leading into a honeyed mead. A buttery, almost light cheesy note to this, which then blends into vanilla. Very elegant stuff. In the mouth: gentle and light on the tongue, and with a sincere lead-in of malted barley. Somewhere in there I get a sense of smoke, but it’s far off. Vegetative, yet it starts to get a little sweeter. Grapefruit? Voignier perhaps. It’s nicely balanced, but overall very straightforward. There just doesn’t seem to be much life in the flavours – the key note seems to be that sweet malt, a little heat and spice – but it’s rather two-dimensional compared to, say, the Hakushu Heavily Peated. And it’s a touch vinegary on the finish, as well – like a white wine that’s been left open for too long.

Whyte & Mackay’s big-selling entry-level blended whisky. High quality and a great way to start working your way up through the rest of their range. The softness, creamyness on the nose. Lovely. This whisky tastes exactly as described above. It is great dream. Have to try the older brothers 19 and 22. Pleasant whisky experience

Whyte & Mackay - 40% - 13 years old.
The nose is quite rich and well-balanced. There are notes of oak and resin, a touch of sherried peels and Oloroso, a little honeyed sweetness. The palate is quite thick with a good mouth feel. There are notes of honey and sherry and a little smoke. The finish is of good length.

Blanton’s Original - Singel Barrel Bourbon - 46.5%
If you see this bottle in your local store, grab it. I don’’t think there is another bourbon that can out do Blanton and also has an amazing kick to it once time proceeds. There may not be another bottle within this price range that can give you a “bang for your buck”. Makes you glad you picked up the bottle.( J.Peterson 2014)
