18th January 2008: Touareg Trail ‘Nocturne’ at Brussels International Motor Show On 18th January the first of three ‘nocturnes’ will take place at the Brussels International Motor Show, a unique opportunity to give the Garmin stand an African feel. Everybody is welcome from 7pm onwards for the presentation of the new movie/documentary of Touareg Trail 2007, plus an information session about Touareg Trail 2008 and the rally Libya Desert Challenge. At 8pm the movie will start (30mins). Whether you are a participant in one of the past or future editions, passionate about 2CV’s, Africa or adventure then this is an evening not to be missed. See you in Palais 1, Brussels Expo, stand no. 1.52 (Garmin GPS).
Touareg Trail 2008: Already more than 50% fully booked.
Following the successful edition of Touareg Trail 2007, and positive promotion campaign at the world 2CV meeting last year in Sweden, 14 teams have already subscribed for the fourth edition of Touareg Trail. Touareg Trail is also becoming a truly international affair with nearly 60% of all registered teams coming from Finland, Sweden, UK, Holland and Germany promising to make Touareg Trail 2008 a multi-cultural experience in every way.
Small price increase for Touareg Trail 2008 Everybody is annoyed with it…. Over the last two years fuel prices have increased dramatically all over the world. Ferry tickets from Barcelona to Tangers, plane tickets from Cotonou to Paris, the transportation of Citroen 2CV’s via container ship from Benin to Antwerp and the huge consumption of 8 assistant 4x4’s and trucks have resulted in making transportation and fuel the largest costs associated to organising Touareg Trail. As a result of these increased costs we have had to adapt our registration fee accordingly and slightly raised the price by €350. Registrations at the ‘old’ price of €4850 will still be accepted if you register before or during the Brussels Motor Show ‘Nocturne’ on 18th January. From 19th Jan onwards the registration fee will increase to €5200 per person.
Cancellation of the Dakar will not impact Touareg Trail 2008 The cancellation this year of the worlds largest rally ‘The Dakar’, as a result of the attack in Mauritania on 5 French people, has raised some concerns. In order to get clarification on the security situation and try to allay these concerns we have contacted the Mauritanian embassy in Brussels. The response from the minister (vice ambassador) is as follows: ‘we regret enormously the incident that occurred with the five French tourists but can confirm that this was an isolated incident and that can a) happen all over the world including Brussels and Paris and b) is the first incident of this kind in Mauritania. At the moment there are 900 tourists in Mauritania, of which to our knowledge not one has cancelled their holiday. Also the 20 Belgian travel agents and tour operators who work in and with Mauritania are still active, not one has cancelled any of their programs. The embassy sees no reason to be worried; we are still issuing tourist visas to anybody wanting to visit our country and repeat that this regrettable incident is an isolated case. If in the future the security situation changes then we will keep you informed and will ask the authorities in charge to do everything possible to guarantee your security (ie an escort).’

18 januari 2008: Touareg Trail Nocturne op het Brusselse Autosalon Op 18 januari vindt op het Internationale Autosalon van Brussel de eerste nocturne plaats; een unieke gelegenheid om de beursstand van Garmin, één van onze trouwe sponsors, in een Afrikaans kleedje te zetten. Iedereen is er welkom vanaf 19.00u voor de voorstelling van de film/documentaire van de TT 2007,
en tekst en uitleg over TT2008 en de Libya Desert Challenge. Om 20u stipt starten we de film. Ben je deelnemer aan één van de voorbije of toekomstige edities, 2CV liefhebber, Afrika-reiziger of avonturier, dan is dit een niet-te missen avond! Afspraak in Paleis 1, standnummer: 1.52 (Garmin gps)
Touareg Trail 2008: reeds voor meer dan 50% volgeboekt Als gevolg van een heel succesvolle editie van Touareg Trail 2007 en een geslaagde promotiecampagne tijdens de World 2CV Meeting in Zweden afgelopen zomer, hebben zich reeds 14 teams ingeschreven voor de vierde editie. Opmerkelijk is ook dat de TT niet langer een louter Belgische aangelegenheid is: bijna 60% van de reeds ingeschreven teams komen uit landen als Zweden, Finland, Nederland, Duitsland en het Verenigd Koninkrijk. Het belooft dus een multicultureel avontuur te worden op alle vlakken.
Kleine prijsstijging Touareg Trail 2008 Iedereen zit ermee verveeld: de laatste twee jaar is de kost van brandstof overal ter wereld fors gestegen. Ferry tickets van Barcelona naar Tanger, vliegtuigtickets Cotonou-Parijs, vervoer van de Citroën 2CV’s per containerschip van Benin naar Antwerpen en een gigantische verbruik van acht assitentie 4x4’s en vrachtwagens zorgen ervoor dat transport en brandstof één van de belangrijkste kostenposten van de organisatie is. Gezien de grote prijsstijgingen zien wij ons dan ook genoodzaakt om het inschriivingsgeld vanaf 18 januari 2008 met 350 euro op te trekken. Inschrijven aan de “oude” prijs van 4850€ kan dus nog tot en met de Touareg Trail nocturne op het Autosalon. Vanaf 19 januari wordt de inschrijvingsprijs vastgesteld op 5200 € per persoon.
Annulatie “le Dakar” heeft geen consequenties voor Touareg Trail 2008 De annulatie van ’s werelds grootste rally, de “Dakar” naar aanleiding van een overval op vijf Fransen in Mauretanië leidde bij enkele deelnemers tot ongerustheid. We hebben intussen contact opgenomen met de Mauretaanse Ambassade in Brussel om opheldering te vragen. Het antwoord van de Conseiller (plaatsvervangend ambassadeur) luidt: “We betreuren het incident van de 5 Fransen enorm maar bevestigen dat het om een geïsoleerd geval gaat en dat dit a: overal ter wereld -zelfs in Brussel of Parijs- kan gebeuren en b: dat dit de eerste keer is dat zoiets in Mauretanië gebeurt. Op dit moment bevinden er zich 900 toeristen in Mauretanië waarvan er niet één zijn reis geannuleerd heeft. Ook blijven de 20 Belgische
reisagenten en tour-operatoren actief in ons land en heeft er niet één zijn programma geannuleerd. De Ambassade ziet geen redenen tot ongerustheid; wij blijven toeristische visa verstrekken aan iedereen die ons land wil bezoeken en herhalen dat het betreurenswaardig incident een geïsoleerd geval is. Mocht in de toekomst blijken dat er zich ooit een veiligheidsprobleem zou voordoen, dan houden wij U hiervan op de hoogte en zullen wij de bevoegde authoriteiten vragen om de nodige stappen te ondernemen om uw veiligheid te garanderen (bvb. escorte)”.
