Scholen in Europa stimuleren innovatie door eTwinningprojecten
creativiteit

eTwinning is een EU-initiatief om scholen aan te moedigen via internet met andere scholen samen te werken. Nu eTwinning zo'n 50 000 geregistreerde gebruikers in heel Europa heeft, laten steeds meer leerkrachten in Europa zien dat zij nieuwe manieren ontdekken om het onderwijs en het leren te ontwikkelen en te vernieuwen. Tijdens de jaarlijkse eTwinningconferentie, die van 13 tot en met 15 februari 2009 in Praag zal plaatsvinden, zal de Europese Commissie een prijs toekennen aan de tien beste eTwinningschoolprojecten. eTwinning is een van de belangrijkste acties binnen het programma Een leven lang leren van de Europese Commissie. Het stelt scholen in Europa in de gelegenheid om te communiceren, ideeën uit te wisselen en online samenwerkingsprojecten uit te voeren. Via een onlineplatform dat gebruikmaakt van web 2.0-applicaties om gemakkelijker te communiceren, is eTwinning uitgegroeid tot een echte samenwerkende gemeenschap, waar leerkrachten creatieve manieren laten zien om hun werk in de klas te verbeteren. Sinds de actie in januari 2005 van start ging, hebben leerkrachten van 48 286 scholen zich bij eTwinning geregistreerd en zijn 11 994 projecten uitgevoerd waarbij minstens twee scholen uit twee verschillende landen betrokken waren. De jaarlijkse conferentie wordt dit jaar van 13 tot en met 15 februari 2009 in Praag gehouden. Onder de meer dan 400 deelnemers zijn leerkrachten uit heel Europa, vertegenwoordigers van de centrale en nationale ondersteuningsdiensten van eTwinning en andere belangrijke belanghebbenden bij het onderwijs. Het thema van de conferentie is "Creativiteit en eTwinning" en onder de sprekers zijn Ján Figel', de Europees commissaris voor onderwijs, opleiding, cultuur en jeugdzaken, dr. Edward de Bono, expert in lateraal denken en ambassadeur voor het Europees Jaar van de creativiteit en innovatie 2009. Aan de vooravond van de conferentie ging commissaris Figel’ in op het belang van eTwinning in 2009: "2009 is het Jaar van de creativiteit en innovatie en dus is het bijzonder passend dat we het almaar groeiende succes van de eTwinningactie als voorbeeld van creativiteit in het onderwijs laten zien. We moeten een innovatieve aanpak in het onderwijs aanmoedigen om de kwaliteit en doeltreffendheid van de Europese schoolstelsels te verbeteren en Europese jongeren te helpen zich voor te bereiden op de maatschappij en economie van de toekomst". Het hoogtepunt van de conferentie is de prijsuitreiking, waarbij de tien beste eTwinningprojecten uit het schooljaar 2007-2008 worden beloond. Er zijn vijf categorieën, drie naar leeftijd (4-11 jaar, 12-15 jaar en 16-19 jaar), één naar vakgebied (wiskunde en natuurwetenschappen) en een speciale categorie over het gebruik van de Franse taal gesponsord door het Franse voorzitterschap.
Er zijn meer dan 500 projecten ingezonden, die op vernieuwendheid, opname in het leerprogramma, samenwerking, creatief gebruik van ICT en overdraagbaarheid zijn beoordeeld. De tien finalisten komen van 40 scholen uit 21 landen (België, Bulgarije, Cyprus, Frankrijk, Griekenland, Hongarije, Ierland, IJsland, Italië, Letland, Litouwen, Luxemburg, Malta, Polen, Portugal, Roemenië, Slowakije, Spanje, Tsjechië, het Verenigd Koninkrijk en Zweden). De winnaars van de eerste vier categorieën krijgen een reis aangeboden naar het eTwinningkamp dat in april in Griekenland zal plaatsvinden, terwijl de winnaars in de categorie Frans een beurs ontvangen om deze zomer in Frankrijk Frans te studeren.

The pupils from the two schools collaborate to produce films, which are used as a teaching tool when working with themes chosen from the syllabus. The media material is published and discussed by the pupils on the project blog. The jury said: Various ICT tools were included in the project in a purposeful way. The project fits in an international curriculum and could work as a model for various themes as well as for different school levels. The model of question- and comment-based project development as a basis for progressive inquiry showed the real pedagogical value of the project. The jury said: The panel thought that the basis of the project, an international theme, i.e, water, incorporated with an intercultural theme, i.e., fairytales, was innovative and appropriate. The partner choice is particularly appropriate since both partners can approach the subject with similar questions. At the same time, the project serves as good model for various other European countries.

Their idea was to challenge the creativity of the pupils in designing the puzzles while at the same time nurturing their mathematical skills. The jury said: The project demonstrated a very creative an innovative approach to implementing its objectives. The work consisted of two parts: in the first part, they outlined the changing of people’s food habits and tastes for the last fifty years; in the second part, they developed their own pizzeria business plans in order to develop their business knowhow. The jury said: This project obviously made a significant impact on the participants and the entire community. The pupils were involved in practical work and discussing the real implementation of a novel idea. It's a fresh approach that works well with this rather difficult age group. Starting from the well-known novel, Dracula by Bram Stoker, the students practiced their English through online conversations. They also used debate to establish a line between reality and fiction, related to Stoker’s characters. The final outcome is a blog containing all the work done by the members of the book club. The jury said: This project demonstrated outstanding pupil collaboration and interaction, creative use of ICT tools while incorporating a full-scale study of the topic

The jury said: We could feel the excitement about being overnight at school and talking to your partner doing the same, using video conferencing. This was a really creative and truly collaborative project. The jury said: We liked the project website which contains a lot of games (videos as well as descriptions) collected by the partner countries. Partners communicated via email (all collected in the TwinSpace), video conferencing and tried and evaluated each other’s games. This eTwinning project has served as a basis for a Comenius partnership project for some of the partners.
