Session 1: Why are we here? By the end of this session, participants should be able to • discuss the importance of ecomapping in creating a sustainable society
From www.epa.gov (U.S.)
What are the real-life issues that ecomapping is trying to address? In your groups, discuss • Why is ecomapping important? • What happens if we do nothing? • What do we map? • How do we map it? Together, draw a poster or mind map (8 minutes)
Backwards planning In your groups, discuss • What do we want to do?
• Indonesia/planet sustainable
• How?
• Sustainable changes in behaviour
• How?
• Changing ways of thinking à better understanding
• How?
• Changing teaching and learning?
• How
• Awareness of issues
Understanding the connections between actions you do, or do not do: eg: Effects wheels Less money
Need to train it Obedience school
Meet new friends
Buying a dog
Have to care for it
Buy food Do not like dog Have to stay home a lot
Take it for walks
Get fit
Continue this one (in your group)
Do not do it
Do it Ecomapping
Session 2: Becoming a Green organisation By the end of this session, participants should be able to • Describe the broad requirements of ecomapping related to the Adiwiyata and Green Schools processes • Begin to develop a process for ecomapping in their schools • Consider the benefits and inhibiting factors of ecomapping in their schools
During the next part of the presentation: Consider the following questions, for your school: • What can I ecomap easily? • Who will do it? How will they do it? • When will they do it? By when should they finish? How will we know we have been effective? • What issues will make ecomapping my school difficult? • How can we overcome these issues? Each group member must present to the rest of their group

“Next step: EMAS easy” Eco-management and Audit Scheme easy EMAS easy is a new approach based on Ecomapping, developed to process an environmental management system (EMS) based on baseline assessment.
From Eco-mapping to EMAS easy
• • • •
From Eco-mapping to EMAS Environmental initial review Identification of significant aspects Development of SOP’s (measurement, document control, management review, etc) • Planning of an EMS • Involvement of people (teachers, students, community members etc.)
Getting the System Running :
• Documentation and document control requirements • Informal working instructions • Emergency preparedness and response • Internal and external communication • Training and raising awareness
Controlling aspects of the system
• • • •
Continuous improvement External communication External third party audits Exercise Auditing and consistency of System
How can we manage what? Quality Requirements
External Certification
Adiwiyata (KLH Green School Scheme)
Community Involvement Effective Teaching
Please spend 15 minutes in your groups sharing your answers • What can I ecomap easily? • Who will do it? How will they do it? • When will they do it? By when should they finish? How will we know we have been effective? • What issues will make ecomapping my school difficult? • How can we overcome these issues? One person will present your group’s ideas to the whole group
Reflection: What sort of country do I want to live in? What sort of planet do I want to live on? What would it look like? Sound like? Feel like?
THANK YOU!
