A kiállítás tereiben paradox módon fokozatosan tágul a látóhatár. Az utazás elsõ állomásán, vagyis az elsõ teremben egyedi fotó-grafikákkal találkozunk. A második térben hátulról megvilágított, ún. lentikuláris munkák láthatók. A háromdimenziós élményt nyújtó képek light-boxokban kerülnek bemutatásra. A logikailag tökéletesen felépített projekt a „tükör által homályosan” érzékelés stádiumából kiindulva a sejtésszerû, titokzatos átmeneteken át a végsõ fény-állapotig vezeti a nézõt. Itt válik egészen nyilvánvalóvá az is, hová visz minket ez az utazás: a dimenzióváltások – a mocsár feketéjébõl a világosságba, a víz elemébõl a levegõébe, a kaotikusból a rendbe – az ember sötétséggel folytatott örök harcáról tanúskodnak. Vajon mi lesz ennek a küzdelemnek a végkimenetele? Vajon a háborgó lélek rátalál-e egy megnyugtató világba vezetõ kapura? Megnyílnak-e, tágulnak-e megélt világunkban a perspektívák?

U N F O L D I N G On the Border of Two Worlds
A photo-graphical installation and animated film by Andrea Bátorfi
Location: Millenáris, Fogadó-Padlás Open: Wednesday-Sunday 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. The exhibition was opened by Lórán Hegyi, director of Museum of Modern Art, St.-Etienne Curator and production designer: Krisztina Jerger Andrea Bátorfi’s photo-graphical installation and animated film by the the title Unfolding / On the Border of Two Worlds is open to the public between 22 May – 5 September, 2010 at the Fogadó – Padlás exhibition space of the Millenáris. In her project on display at the Millenáris, the artist steps out of the generic framework of the two-dimensional still picture and invites the visitor to a sensual and mediatative, spiritual journey that offers a complex experience. With the help of her nature-documentary images – which she creates with the help of a special procedure – she opens a gate to an invisible reality beyond ordinary perception. She builds a labyrinth system, the events of the journey are taking place in three darkened rooms. Paradoxically, inside the exhibition space the horizon is gradually expanding. At the first stage of the journey, the first room, we meet individual photo-graphics. In the second space works lit from behind, so-called lenticular works are on display. The images, which provide a three-dimensional experience, are displayed in light-boxes. In the last room the dimension change continues: the images start to move on a 4-meter-wide screen, and recount the great adventure of the spirit. The logically perfectly constructed project starts out from the state of "through a glass, darkly” and through conjecture-like, mysterious transitions it leads the spectator to the final light-state. This is where it becomes obvious where this journey is taking us: the changes in dimension – from the blackness of the swamp into the light, from the element of water to the element of air, from chaos to order – demonstrate man’s eternal fight with darkness. What is the outcome of this struggle? Will the tormented soul find a gate leading to a reassuring world? Will perspectives in our experienced world open up, expand?

Andrea Bátorfi creates symmetric compositions from multiple exposure photographs, pieced together according to a strict formal order. In the multiple exposure photographs various accidental natural phenomena witnessed on the bank of the Danube – bare branches, the glitter of light reflected on the surface of the water – are superimposed within a single frame. In the images these familiar, ordinary elements become transparent because of the successive layers, and from the combination of these layers an invisible, yet for brief moments dimly perceptible dimension shows through The images of a new world organised by order and light seem to be the bearers and keepers of enormous energies. Through the inviting light-gates and picturesque light-spaces opening in the images we may set out on a journey through dimensions towards our own barely discovered but continuously expanding interior spaces. It is an attractive, alluring, hospitable world, where we take a rest willingly, and our thoughts, which chase each other, give way to the silence of solace, the realisations of wonder, or the jubilant curiosity of discovery. The meditative images offer an opportunity for a thousand tiny discoveries as creature-like forms arise from the contrast of dark and light formations, and become the source of our reanimated imagination. During the exhibition the artist will lead guided tours for visitors: 29 May, 2010, Saturday, between 6 p.m. and 7 p.m. 10 June, 2010, Thursday, between 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. Sponsored by: Magyar Fejlesztési Bank Szerencsejáték Zrt.
