General Definition According to Online Dictionary for Library and Information Science, Reference service is all the functions performed by a trained librarian employed in the reference section of a library to meet the information needs of patrons (in person, by telephone, or electronically), including but not limited to answering substantive questions, instructing users in the selection and use of appropriate tools and techniques for finding information, conducting searches on behalf of the patron, directing users to the location of library resources, assisting in the evaluation of information, referring patrons to resources outside the library when appropriate, keeping reference statistics, and participating in the development of the reference collection. Library Information Reference Service Library provides information reference service for its user and based on library policies, page 6-7, information reference service is defined as follow: a. Library provides information reference service for journal articles, magazines, and other serial publications, in printed or digital format based on request. b. What is meant by the reference service is a process of information retrieval on a variety of printed or online sources, such as encyclopedia, dictionaries, journals, magazines, or other reference sources. c. Appointment with the reference librarian has to be made in order to obtain this service. d. Information Referral Service is free of charge only for The Johannes Oentoro Library members. Charge is required for printing fee. e. For non-member, information referral service will be charged. f. Requests by Individual or organization could be made by filling the referral service inquiry form which is available on the website and send it to [email protected]. g. Respond will be made by 3 days or sooner.

The articles will be delivered to the requester via e-mail or by mail (fee is paid by the requester) in PDF format, as soon as we receive the copy of a transfer sheet via fax at 021-5460908 to the library reference section. i. The Journal’s content is developed along a specific theme in each issue and consists of the following sections: • Main Feature– a reflection on the elected theme. • FuturArc Showcase– includes one or more projects to illustrate the feature. • The FuturArc Interview– a conversation with a shaper of ideas and doer of deeds. • Projects– features prominent projects in the region in line with the theme. • Commentary– provides in-depth discussions of issues relevant to architects today. • Readers can also look forward to information about latest products and technology, including coverage of conferences, design competitions as well as other architectural events in the Happenings and Products sections.

This month, the library website has a new layout and the launching will be on January 13, 2011. With this new layout, there are some changes, such as the Web-OPAC, Collection Highlights, Promotion Board, and new features, such as E-Forms, Calendar Events, etc.

This full-colored magazine is available in the library, 2nd floor at periodical section (UPH Karawaci). The printed magazines are provided from volume 1, 2006 until current (2012) with total amount of 24 issues. For further information, please contact the librarian at ext.1371.
