PH. CHAMDERS The Ph.D. is a Dutch-based private graduate school that was initially established to address the problems of multicultural societies in the Netherlands and the Caribbean. Gradually, the Chamber evolved into a graduate school that trains Ph.D. candidates and specializes in capacity building among communities and institutions; it does so in conjunction with the universities of Tilburg, Amsterdam, Nijmegen, and Rotterdam. From its establishment in 2005 and until 2013, the Chamber expects to finalize 17 Ph.D programs in the disciplines of law, economics, sociology, public administration, management, media studies, anthropology, political science, and history. In addition, the Chamber has expanded its field of operations to Suriname and the former Dutch Antilles, specifically Curacao. To that end, a separate foundation was established—namely, the Stichting Vorming en Ontwikkeling— which is more focused on capacity building. The executive director and founder of the graduate school is Prof. Dr. Ruben Gowricharn, a trained economist and sociologist, and a professor of social cohesion and transnational issues at Tilburg University in the Netherlands. At the moment, the Chamber has 22 professors from these disciplines among its supervisors. Since its inception in 2005 and until 2012, the Ph.D. Chamber has finalized seven Ph.D. programs. In 2013, another five candidates are planning to defend their theses. For more information, see the website promotiekamer.nl
