DNA-onderzoek bij gezinshereniging DNA test for family reunification purposes

DNA test for family reunification purposes You have applied for family reunification with your child(ren) or an application for asylum has been submitted on behalf of or by your child(ren). Anyone who submits an application such as those mentioned above must prove that the child in question is actually his or her own child. In most cases, this takes place with the help of official (legalised) documents. If these documents are missing through no fault of your own, a DNA test can provide a result. In this brochure, you can read about how DNA tests are carried out.
7
What is a DNA test?
When can you use DNA tests?
Everyone has unique characteristics.
You are eligible for a DNA test if you

are actually the father or mother of the child in question. DNA tests can also be used if just one of the parents is present.
Possible outcomes Please note: A DNA test does not determine a person’s identity.
– DNA tests only ascertain the biological parent-child relationship. DNA tests do not work in the case of foster children or adopted children. – DNA tests can determine (with certainty) that you are not the father or mother of a child. – DNA tests can determine (with certainty) that you are indeed the father or mother of a child. – If the DNA test is carried out on both parents, it may emerge that one of them is not the child’s biological parent.
