German Cinema Festival menghadirkan film box-office Jerman Festival film German Cinema menyajikan sepuluh film Jerman dari kurun waktu lima tahun terakhir kepada publik Indonesia. Epos sejarah “John Rabe” mengawali program yang beraneka dan pemutarannya akan dihadiri oleh sutradara dan pemenang hadiah Oscar Florian Gallenberger. Komedi integrasi Jerman-Turki “Almanya“, dan drama keluarga “Die Fremde“ atau kisah romantis “Lila Lila“ bertutur dan menghibur dengan kualitas sinematik yang tinggi. Festival ini merupakan kesempatan langka untuk memperoleh gambaran mengenai perfilman Jerman dewasa ini. German Film Festival: Das Beste aus den deutschen Kinos Das Filmfestival German Cinema präsentiert dem indonesischen Publikum zehn deutsche Filme aus den vergangenen fünf Jahren. Das Geschichtsepos „John Rabe“ eröffnet in Gegenwart des Regisseurs und Oscarpreisträgers Florian Gallenberger ein abwechslungsreiches Programm. Die deutsch-türkische Integrationskomödie „Almanya“, das Familiendrama „Die Fremde“ oder die Romanze „Lila Lila“ wissen neben weiteren Filmen auf hohem cineastischem Niveau zu erzählen und zu unterhalten. John Rabe has been managing the branch of the German company Siemens for many years. Just upon being ordered back to Berlin, Japanese fighter jets bomb the city, people are panicking. To provide shelter to his workers’ families, Rabe opens the gates of the company’s premises. Even if the Japanese Army acts with unforeseen brutality against civilians, Rabe succeeds in wresting a large safety zone from them. But the ignominious assaults continue and supplies are becoming increasingly scarce. Eventually the Japanese plan to storm the zone under false pretences. For Rabe, time is running out. Kita berada di tahun 1937 di Nanking, ibukota Cina. Sudah bertahun-tahun lamanya John Rabe memimpin perwakilan perusahaan Siemens dari Jerman di sini. Tepat pada waktu ia dipanggil pulang ke Berlin pesawat-pesawat tempur Jepang membombardir kota. Semua orang panik dan Rabe membuka gerbang pekarangan pabrik untuk mengamankan keluarga para pekerjanya yang mencari tempat berlindung. Meskipun perlakuan tentara Jepang terhadap kaum penduduk sipil luar biasa brutal, Rabe berhasil memaksakan pembentukan zona aman yang luas. Namun berbagai pelanggaran keji terus berlangsung dan situasi perbekalan pun semakin dramatis. Akhirnya pasukan Jepang merencanakan penyerbuan zona aman dengan alasan yang dicaricari. Rabe kini harus berpacu dengan waktu.

Synopsis/Sinopsis Am I German or Turkish? This is the question that not only 6 year old Cenk asks on his first day at school. Also his 25 year old cousin Canan finds herself between these two cultures and does not know how to explain to her family that she is pregnant from her English boyfriend. For Canan’s grandfather Hüseyin, who came to “Almanya” 45 years ago, Germany has become his home country since long. One evening during a family gathering, he takes his loved-ones by surprise, when he announces that he bought a house in Turkey. A few days later, the whole family leaves for Turkey. Memories come alive and Cenk gets to know how his grandfather came to Germany in the 1960s as one of the first foreign workers, how he took his wife Fatma and their three children to Germany a few years later and how the family experienced Germany as an alien and fascinating country. But then the journey takes an unexpected turn - and all members of the family have to ask themselves about their identity.
Apakah aku orang Jerman atau orang Turki? Pertanyaan ini diajukan bukan hanya oleh Cenk yang berusia 6 tahun ketika pertama kali masuk sekolah. Sepupunya Canan yang berumur 25 tahun pun terombang-ambing di antara kedua dunia ini, dan tidak tahu bagaimana harus menjelaskan kepada keluarganya bahwa ia sedang mengandung anak dari pacarnya yang asal Inggris. Bagi Hüseyin, kakek Canan yang datang ke “Almanya” 45 tahun lalu, Jerman sudah lama menjadi “rumah”. Suatu malam ketika seluruh keluarga sedang berkumpul, ia mengejutkan mereka dengan berita bahwa ia membeli rumah di Turki. Beberapa hari kemudian semuanya berangkat menuju tanah leluhurnya. Berbagai kenangan bangkit dan Cenk mendengar bagaimana kakeknya datang ke Jerman pada tahun 1960-an sebagai salah satu pekerja migran pertama, lalu beberapa tahun kemudian menjemput istrinya Fatma dan ketiga anak mereka, dan bagaimana keluarga itu mengalami Jerman sebagai negeri asing yang memukau. Namun kemudian terjadi hal yang tak terduga – dan semua anggota keluarga terpaksa mempertanyakan identitas masing-masing.

Synopsis/Sinopsis Strasbourg 1772: 22 year old law student Johann Goethe likes to pass his time with wine and – unfortunately hitherto without success – with poetry. When he fails his doctoral exam, Johann’s father has had enough of funding his son’s excessive life. Thus, Johann is sent to the superior Court of Justice of Wetzlar, where he is supposed to learn court proceedings from scratch. At his new work place, he is soon to clash with his rigid superior, judge Kestner. At a party, Johann meets Lotte Buff, who first confuses, but then captivates him. Soon Johann and Lotte are head over heels in love. Up to then, nobody knows that Lotte’s father has found a way to resolve the family’s financial problems: Lotte is supposed to marry - of all people judge Kestner. Strasburg 1772: Johann Goethe, mahasiswa hukum berusia 22 tahun, senang menghabiskan waktu dengan minum anggur dan menulis puisi – sekali pun belum mendapat sambutan. Ketika ia gagal melewati ujian doktor, ayah Johann akhirnya tidak lagi bersedia membiayai kehidupan putranya yang penuh foya-foya. Karena itu Johann dikirim ke pengadilan Wetzlar, tempat ia diharuskan mempelajari seluk-beluk peradilan dari awal. Di tempat kerjanya yang baru ia segera berselisih dengan Kestner, atasannya yang kaku. Di suatu pesta Johann bertemu Lotte Buff, yang mula-mula membuatnya jengkel, tetapi kemudian malah berhasil merebut hatinya. Dalam waktu singkat Johann dan Lotte saling jatuh cinta. Tak ada yang tahu bahwa ayah Lotte telah menemukan jalan untuk mengatasi masalah keuangan yang dihadapi keluarganya: Lotte harus menikah – dan calon suaminya ternyata Kestner.

Setelah kematian ibunya, Vincent yang sejak remaja mengidap Sindrom Tourette hanya terasa merepotkan bagi ayahnya yang ambisius. Serta-merta ia dimasukkan ke rumah sakit jiwa! Di sana ia berkenalan dengan Marie, seorang pengidap anoreksi yang mampu mengendalikan Vincent ketika sedang kambuh. Namun Marie sendiri sakit sangat parah dan nampaknya kondisi kesehatannya tidak akan membaik. Suatu saat mereka diam-diam mencuri mobil dokter dan berangkat menuju laut. Mereka terpaksa mengajak Alexander, teman sekamar Vincent yang menderita neurosis kompulsif, tetapi paling tidak mampu mengemudikan mobil. Akan tetapi tidak lama kemudian psikolog Dr. Rose dan ayah Vincent mulai mengejar mereka.

Synopsis/Sinopsis Rainer Wenger is a teacher at a German grammar school and is supposed to teach about autocracy during a project week. His class doubts, that a dictatorship like Nazi Germany would still be possible today. The teacher spontaneously starts an experiment. The pupils now have to call him Mr. Wenger (before they just called him Rainer), stand up every time they request to speak, and sit upright. The class is joining in and ever enthusiastically accepts the rules of the coming days: A uniform, a logo, a common salute. The movement now calls itself “The Wave”. Rainer Wenger guru di sebuah sekolah menengah atas Jerman. Selama satu minggu ia harus membahas tema autokrasi bersama anak didiknya. Muridmuridnya menyangsikan bahwa kediktatoran seperti di Jerman pada masa Nazi masih mungkin terjadi dewasa ini. Sang guru secara spontan memulai sebuah eksperimen. Mulai saat itu murid-muridnya diharuskan menyapanya sebagai Tuan Wenger, duduk tegak, dan berdiri setiap kali ingin berbicara. Seluruh kelas turut serta dalam eksperimen itu dan selama beberapa hari berikut semakin bersemangat melaksanakan semua aturan yang ditetapkan: Baju seragam, sebuah logo, salam yang khas. Gerakan itu sekarang menamakan diri “Die Welle” (Gelombang).

Synopsis/Sinopsis On her journey, German tourist Maria’s airplane has to stop over in Buenos Aires, Argentina. At the airport, after hearing a Spanish nursery rhyme, she suddenly collapses. Within seconds, she remembers an experience from her childhood, which was always linked to and was reawakened by this song. Her father Anton hurries to Buenos Aires and tries his best to protect her from the past. But what is it that Anton hides? Pesawat yang ditumpangi turis bernama Maria dari Jerman singgah di Buenos Aires, Argentina, dalam suatu perjalanan. Di bandara ia mendengar lagu anak-anak Spanyol, dan tiba-tiba saja ia ambruk. Seketika ia merasa diingatkan kepada suatu peristiwa pada masa kanak-kanaknya yang terkait dengan lagu itu, dan sekarang dibangkitkan dari alam bawah sadar. Synopsis/Sinopsis David Kern is a waiter and as such quite invisible. That becomes a problem, when he gets to know literature student Marie. To impress her, he pretends to be the author of an accidentally found manuscript. Marie is impressed by David’s art of writing and sends the manuscript to a publisher. From one day to the other, David is an acclaimed author and moves in with Marie. But when Jacky, the supposedly real author, shows up, it becomes more and more difficult for David, to keep up the initially harmless camouflage. David Kern adalah seorang pelayan dan nyaris tidak pernah dipandang. Ini menjadi masalah ketika ia berkenalan dengan mahasiswi sastra bernama Marie. Dalam rangka membuat Marie terkesan, ia mengaku sebagai penyusun naskah yang ditemukannya secara kebetulan. Karena terkesan oleh kepandaian David dalam mengolah kata, Marie mengirim naskah itu ke sebuah penerbit. Dalam sekejap David menjadi pengarang yang dielu-elukan, dan ia dan Marie pun mulai hidup bersama. Namun ketika muncul Jacky, yang konon merupakan pengarang yang sesungguhnya, David semakin sulit mempertahankan pengelabuannya yang sesungguhnya tidak dilandasi niat buruk.

Synopsis/Sinopsis Germany in the 1970s: The radicalised children of the Nazi generation, led by Andreas Baader, former star columnist Ulrike Meinhof and Gudrun Ensslin, fight against what they consider the new face of fascism: The US-American policy in Vietnam, the Middle East and the Third World, which is supported by German political, judiciary and industrial leaders. The Red Army Faction founded by Baader, Meinhof and Ensslin has declared war on the Federal Republic of Germany. People are killed and injured, the situation escalates, and the foundations of this still young democracy get severely jolted. Jerman pada tahun 1970-an. Fraksi Tentara Merah yang didirikan oleh Baader, Meinhof dan Ensslin menyatakan perang terhadap Republik Federal Jerman. Korban tewas dan luka terus berjatuhan, situasi semakin genting, dan demokrasi yang masih muda pun terguncang sampai ke pondasinya.

When the family decides to send Cem back to his father in Turkey in order to restore their reputation, Umay escapes again together with her son and burns all her bridges. She finds work, goes to school and falls in love. But the breach with her family preys deeply on her mind and she seeks reconciliation, without knowing that it is already too late. Umay yang lahir di Berlin 25 tahun silam, tidak menemukan kebahagiaan di Istanbul, bersama suami ringan tangan yang dijodohkan kepadanya. Bersama putranya Cem ia melarikan diri dari Turki dan kembali ke Jerman, dan meminta bantuan kepada orang tua dan saudara-saudaranya. Tetapi aturan yang berlaku di masyarakat Turki mengecam langkah yang diambilnya. Ketika keluarganya memutuskan untuk mengembalikan Cem kepada ayahnya di Turki demi memulihkan nama baik mereka, Umay kembali melarikan diri bersama putranya dan memutuskan semua hubungan. Ia mendapat pekerjaan, melanjutkan sekolah dan jatuh cinta. Namun perselisihan dengan keluarganya memberatkan hatinya dan ia mencoba untuk berdamai, tanpa menyadari bahwa hal itu sudah terlambat.
