ABSTRACT Nailufar, Mughis. 2011 Analysis of passive sentence found in the economy news of the Jakarta post issued in August 2011. Skripsi: English Education Department Teacher Training and Education Faculty Muria Kudus University. Advisors: (1) Drs. Muh. Syafei, M.Pd. (2) Mutohhar, S.Pd. M.Pd. Key word: Analysis, Passive sentence, Economy news, Jakarta Post. Language is the medium by which people express their experiences and their ideas of the world in which they live. Mastering English is one of the ways to step into international world. However in the fact, most of the Indonesian learners who have learn English for several years at institutionalized education still find difficulties in use English, writing especially. To use passive voice accurately, meaningfully, and appropriately, learners must master English gramatical structure effectively. But the fact, most of them who have learn English for several years at academy institution still finds difficulties o make passive voice. It is caused by learners still confused to appropriate the form of the sentences with be, tense and subject which is used. The objective of the study are (1)to know the tense and (2) the structure of passive voice found in the economy news of the Jakarta post issued in 2011. In this research, the writer uses qualitative research in which the data gathered are descriptive. The writer intends to observe descriptively about passive sentence found in the economy news of the Jakarta post issued in August 2011. The data in this research are passive sentence and the data source is Economy news page of the Jakarta post issued in August 2011. The result of the research show: simple present (26), present perfect (6), simple past (24), past perfect (1), simple future (8), past future (1), simple present and simple past are the dominant tense of passive sentences that are used in the economy news of The Jakarta Post issued in August 2011. While, based on the structure find seven kinds of the structure of passive sentence found in the economy news
of The Jakarta Post issued in August 2011. They are S +
(is/am/are) + Past Participle (26), S + (have/has) + been + Past Participle (6), S + viii
(was/were) + Past Participle (24), S + had + been + Past Participle(1), S + ( will/shall) + be+ Past Participle (8), S + (should/would) + be + Past Participle (1). Based on the result of the research, the writer suggests (1) to the teacher, newspaper can be used as a material for understanding passive voice, (2) to the students, they can study passive voice throught newspaper especially economy newspaper page of the Jakarta post. (3) to the teacher, the result of the research can be reference or material in understanding passive voice.

Skripsi: Program Studi Pendidikan Bahasa Inggris, Fakultas Keguruan Dan Ilmu Pendidikan Bahasa Inggris, Universitas Muria Kudus. Pembimbing: (1) Drs. Muh. Syafei, M.Pd. (2) Mutohhar, S.Pd. M.Pd. Kata kunci: Analisis, Kalimat pasif, Berita ekonomi, Jakarta Post. Bahasa adalah sarana bagi manusia untuk mengekspresikan pengalaman dan ide mereka yang mereka tempati. Menguasai bahasa inggris adalah salah satu cara untuk memasuki dunia internasional. Akan tetapi, faktanya sebagian besar dari siswa yang belajar bahasa inggris di lembaga pendidikan selama beberapa tahun, masih merasa kesulitan dalam menggunakan bahasa inggris, khususnya dalam hal penulisan. Hal ini dikarenakan adanya perbedaan susunan struktur kalimat antara bahasa inggris dan bahasa indonesia. Untuk menggunakan kalimat pasif dengan cermat, bermajna dan tepat, para siswa harus menguasai susunan kalimat bahasa inggris dengan efektif. Tetapi faktanya kebanyakan dari mereka yang belajar bahasa inggris dilembaga pendidikan selama beberapa tahun, masih merasa kesulitan dalam membuat kalimat pasif. Hal ini disebabkan karena mereka masih kesulitan dalam menyesuaikan antara to be, tense dan subject yang digunakan dalam membuat kalimat pasif. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah (1)untuk mengetahui tenses dan(2) pola kalimat pasif yang terdapat dalam halaman berita ekonomi dari koran jakarta pos yang diterbitkan selama bulan agustus 2011. Dalam penelitian ini penulis menggunakan metode kualitatif deskriptif. Yang mana perolehan data berasal dari kalimat-kalimat pasif dan narasumber datanya adalah halaman berita ekonomi dari koran jakarta pos yang diterbitkan setiap hari selama bulan agustus 2011. Dari hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa: berdaarkan tensesnya simple present (26), present perfect (6), simple past (24), past perfect (1), simple future (8), past future (1). Sementara berdasarkan pola kalimatnya terbagi menjadi S +
