This paper proposes a strategy of computer-aided clothing thermal engineering design, which provides a systematical approach to integrate multi-disciplinary knowledge and develop engineeringoriented design tools for the designers and manufactures to carry out 1D, 2D and 3D thermal engineering design. This strategy will offer the designers and manufacturers cost-effective solutions with versatile user-friendly design tools to achieve desirable thermal functional clothing for various wearing scenarios. The development of this strategy begins from the investigation of the role of clothing in the thermal comfort of human body. Then the multidisciplinary framework is presented to integrate the knowledge from the diverse fields of physical, physiological, mathematical, computational and software sciences. The computational simulation capacity is realized to convert the knowledge into computFig. 13. Wearing protocol of functional cycling sportswear. Fig. 4 Block diagram of the thermoregulatory system model (redrawn from Fiala et al. 2001, 2010). The central nervous system thermoregulation (CNS) accounts for overall changes in muscle metabolism by shivering (and the corresponding changes in muscle blood flow), skin blood flow by vasodilatation and vasoconstriction, and skin moisture excretion by sweating. The model uses temperatures of the skin (Tsk)
and of the head core (hypothalamus, Thy) as well as the rate of change of skin temperature (dTsk,i /dt) as input signals into the regulatory centre. The local autonomic regulation employs local skin and tissue temperatures, Tsk,i and Ti, to modify local sweat rates, local blood flows, and tissue metabolic rates

Zie tabel 5. customized to include a dynamic data stream for communication with the external model. Manikin skin temperature, heat flux, and current sweat rate were output in the data stream, along with ambient temperature and relative humidity. RadTherm analysis software was modified to include a corresponding interface layer for the manikin data stream. A compatibility model was built within RadTherm to map the 26 Newton manikin zones to corresponding nodes in the Human Comfort Module.
