An existing office building in the Schinkel area in Amsterdam has been transformed into a flexible multi tenant building. The lively ground floor is the local meeting point where people come together to work and to relax. The space is defined by a grid of chunky, hexagonal columns with large hexagonal column heads. The black ceiling leaves all ducts visible, iadding to the industrial atmosphere. Together with the light floor, the columns and the ceiling form a graphical black and white background. Within the grid different places have been created, each with its own character and use. On entering the space, you find the reading table and a bistro kind of space. Further on people can work at long tables, but there is also room for quality lunch and conversation. The colourful furniture and lighting fixtures stand out and adds variations to the black and white theme. The center of this space is defined by the bar, a large angular volume clad in blackened steel. Its shape changes with every viewpoint and has also many faces in use as a coffeebar, a reception desk and a place for after work drinks. Around the central space are some separate workspaces and meeting rooms. The ‘studio’ is a space for workshops and creative sessions, a colourfu space with many possibilities. The ‘boardroom’ is rich in its textures with a thick carpet and a table in blackened steel, and offers privacy and comfort for a focused exchange of thoughts.
