ational Geographic’s new documentary Before the Flood, produced by the Academy Award-winning actor Leonardo DiCaprio, has already broken many records. It has received more than 60 million views and over one billion minutes watched on streaming, digital and social platforms across the globe, which makes it the mostviewed and popular NatGeo documentary film ever.

Before the Flood, directed by Fisher Stevens, is a climate-change documentary looking at our planet and its future if we, humankind, continue to ignore and avoid all the warnings nature has been giving us. During the filming, DiCaprio travelled all around the world to discover the most polluted and affected areas, while discussing the issue with influential people like Pope Francis, President Obama and even Elon Musk. Later, DiCaptrio

attended a U.N. conference to speak about this movement, about current environmental issues we face and, above all, about the importance of protecting our planet for future generations. This film, the most-viewed documentary since the year 2000 and the largest film ever for National Geographic, was attended by more than 50,000 college students at a free campus screening. There have been thousands more requests for private screenings from various religious institutions, universities and other organizations located all around the world. Government terrorizes women fleeing Boko Haram

T

he Boko Haram continues to terrorise Nigeria and instead of fighting against its pernicious incursions, the government only adds itself to the list of moral inequities occurring on a daily basis. Nigerian officials have launched an investigation into reports claiming that government officials have raped and sexually abused the brave women and young girls who managed to survive the Boko Haram’s violence. The action had been spurred after the Human Rights Watch (HRW) published a detailed report of accounts by dozens of young women and a girl who had come out and openly confessed to being sexually abused or browbeaten into sex. The women claim that they were abused by members of a vigilante group, policemen, and soldiers in Maiduguri, a major Nipeoplegerian city.

The HRW report goes on to discuss how the women, who are not only destitute but also on the brink of emotional carnage, had escaped captivity from the Boko Haram, only to become victims at the camps where they had sought refuge. To exacerbate the issue, many of the women were impregnated by their abusers. Moreover, many victims had been drugged before being abused. As a symbol of support, Nigeria’s Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Kpotun Idris, has assembled a special team “to immediately commence thorough Investigation into all cases of alleged sexual abuses, exploitation, harassments, gender-based violence, and professional misconduct”. Additionally, he has amplified security at refugee camps and stated that, “any acts that violate the human dignity of displaced individuals or groups in the camps, or anywhere in the country, will be handled in accordance with the law.” Ensuing the HRW report, Borno State Governor Kashim Shettima has set out plans for law enforcement agencies to deploy undercover detectives to all camps. According to Shettima’s office, their job will be “to spy on culprits and

bring them to book.” Shettima continued by expressing his sincere condolences to the women abused and firmly stated this was a disgrace to Nigeria. “Sadly, […] the camps have become avenues that horrible stories of sexual slavery, prostitution rings, drug peddling and other social vices are emanating from,” the governor said. He went on by saying, “Sexual harassment of female IDPs is a desperate situation. None of us would fold arms if his or her daughter is in position to be sexually harassed, so we must act now.”

The current success of a regular television broadcast takes a great amount of work. How to interact with photosensitive properties of matter has been known since the 1900s, but how to break up a picture and put it back together presented a considerable challenge. In 1924, a Scottish engineer named John Logie Baird constructed the first television apparatus. And finally, in August 1926, the Ministry of Posts allowed Baird and his company to hold a trial broadcasting. But as expected, there was some competition, namely a company called Marconi-E.M.I. Marconi-E.M.I. had a screen with higher definition and so, in 1933, the BBC reached out to them instead. Two years after that, the Ministry of Posts suggested giving a chance to both of the companies that wanted to broadcast there – Baird's company and the Marconi-E.M.I. These two rivals swapped every week, still the screen of Marconi-E.M.I. won and ultimately drove Baird out of the market. Since then, watching television has spread like wildfire. By 1938 there was a sixteen-hour broadcast, even on Sundays. Between 1939 and 1945 there was a little pause because of the World War II. ne hundred thousand troops, car bombs, grenades, shell fires, snipers, and tanks. No, this is not a computer game. However, add ferocious sandstorms, live drones, and real human cost. Yes, this is Mosul. Mosul, the second largest Iraqi town, presents us with enough reasons to deserve the label of the greatest Iraqi military operation since the American invasion in 2003. The biggest population centre under ISIS control creates a tax-paying base for funding the organization’s plot, and it also serves as the capital of a selfdeclared caliphate.

Mosul‘s strategic position means more than just being a key trading point close to both Syrian and Turkish borders or bearing the role as the centre of Iraqi chemical weapons production. Its location is in close proximity to a vast resource of oil fields and a pipeline. Whether Mosul is used by ISIS to sell illegal oil or to bring profit to the Iraqi government instead, it makes little difference. s unlikely as the title of this article seemed just a few months ago, it will soon become a reality. Analysts are trying to get to the bottom of what exactly we can expect. The answer remains elusive because, as many have pointed out, we have never had a Trump before. As the last of the votes were counted, it became more and more certain that Donald Trump was going to beat his Democratic rival Hillary Clinton to take the Oval Office. While Clinton secured the popular vote, Trump shored up the majority of the Electoral College, effectively winning the presidency. The businessman won some key swing states including Florida, North Carolina and Ohio. In the wake of the results, protests (mostly non-violent) sprang up across the country with one uniting message: "Not my president." The wave of dismay was largely caused by Trump's controversial views, including his desire to build a wall along the Mexican border, abolish Obamacare, and his denial of climate change. Together with his lack of political experience and sexual assault accusations, Trump represents an outsider who has the American public worryingly divided. Since the election, the American public has received a few clues as to what the Trump presidency may look like. By abandoning his plans to build a wall along the Mexican border in favour of a fence and agreeing to preserve key points of Obamacare, he supports the arguments calling his controversial statements mere

fter four years in office, the first female president of South Korea, Park Geun-hye, has found herself in the biggest political scandal of her career. With some of the largest protests in South Korean history taking place in Seoul demanding her resignation, what is the reason behind the unrest? Park Geun-hye, the daughter of Park Chung-hee known for bringing rapid economic growth to South Korea in the 1970s, was inaugurated in 2013. Since then she has been mostly criticized for not fulfilling her campaign promises, such as further economic development. However, in the last months she has been the centre of a scandal regarding the sharing of intimate national infor-

mation with her lifelong friend, Choi Soon-sil. Park and Choi have been friends since the early 1980s following the assassination of Park's father. To complicate matters, Choi is the daughter of a spiritual cult leader, - a cult which she has now become the leader of since her father's death. This means that 2

Choi is known to the public as Park's spiritual guru and adviser. President Park is being accused not only of providing secret national information to Choi, who holds no governmental or public position, but also of allowing Choi to influence her presidential decision-making regarding domestic, foreign, and defence policies. Choi has also been credited for influence over wardrobe choices for public appearances and the editing of public speeches. While President Park has denied providing this kind of power to Choi, allegations of fraud accusing Choi of using money from Korean companies for her two foundations, have also appeared as the scandal has deepened. At present, Choi has been arrested and is awaiting trial. President Park’s response has been quite ineffective. After her attempts at winning the public through repeated apologies did not go through, she has tried to settle the scandal with changes in her administration. She has asked ten of her senior secretaries to resign, and appointed a new Prime Minister as well as a new Minister of Finance. Neither of these appointments have helped settle the scandal, instead they have only increased the opposition's power and overall public distrust in their leader. The public response has been quite drastic ever since the information came to light. President Park's approval ratings have dropped as low as 10%, making her the least popular president in South Ko-

rean history. What is more, thousands of people have been protesting in Seoul and calling for her resignation. Reports of the latest protest say that as many as 500,000 people showed up with candles and signs saying “Park Geun-hye, get out!” while marching towards the presidential Blue House. This kind of response marks the largest anti-government protest in South Korea since 1987 when military rule ended.

On the 29th November, President Park announced her resignation saying that she will leave the parliament to govern and lead the process of the power transfer. As of the printing of this article, it is still uncertain how the South Korean government will deal with this unusual situation or who will be the next president of their country. MARIA PAVLOVEC

Notably, Steve Bannon, with his alt-right views and his position as head of Breitbart news (a site known for its racist rhetoric), has been appointed Chief Strategist. This raises further questions, leaving the American public in the dark as to what their futures will bring. In response, columnist John Foot of The Guardian has made an interesting claim that Trump and his political ways are nothing we haven't seen before. He parallels Trump to a former Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi. Foot details that both men are businessmen with experience with scandals; both, also, built their individual campaigns on the archetype of the anti-establishment outsider. Based on these, Foot predicts a murky future for the US, citing the dampening effect the Berlusconi era had on the Italian economy. Variety Traditional Figgy Pudding Recipe

W

e have chosen an original recipe that will bring a little British Christmas atmosphere to your house!

Figgy Pudding Recipe (4 servings): 1 1/2 cups chopped dried pitted dates 1/2 cup chopped dried figs 2 cups water 1 teaspoon baking soda 100 grams butter 1 cup superfine sugar 2 eggs 2 1/2 cups self-rising flour 75 grams dark chocolate butter for coating ramekins whipped cream for garnishing For the sauce: 2 cups brown sugar 2 cups heavy cream 200 grams butter 2 fresh figs - quartered (optional topping: vanilla ice cream and whipped cream)

Cooking Directions: Preheat the oven to 175° C / 350° F. Put the dates, dried figs and water into a medium saucepan and bring the water to boil over medium heat. Remove the pan from the heat and stir in the baking soda. Cool the fmixture for 5 minutes, then add it to a blender and make a puree. Using a hand mixer, cream the butter and sugar in a bowl. Add the eggs and mix well. Fold in the flour, the pureed date mixture and the chocolate. Pour the mixture into 4 buttered ramekin cups, filling them halfway. Put the cups into the oven and bake for 20 to 25 minutes until an toothpick comes out clean when inserted into them. Take them out of the oven and let them stand for 10 minutes. Prepare the topping sauce by stirring the sugar, cream and butter in a medium saucepan over low heat. Simmer until the sugar dissolves. Raise the heat and bring the sauce to a boil, then reduce the heat and simmer for 5 minutes. Add the butter and stir until incorporated. The pudding may be served in the ramekin or placed onto a small serving plate as shown. Cut a cross in the top of the puddings for the sauce and drizzle over. Enjoy! JAN HREBÍK

Cinderella‘s magic: an analysis

I

have watched the Czech version of Cinderella (Tři oříšky pro Popelku, 1973) fifteen times, always on Christmas Eve. But I was never able to fathom the work’s main message. Was it created to show the plight of the working classes? The unfortunate situation of women living za sedmero horami a řekami? Or did Popelka’s work result in her reaching the American Dream?

Given the context of the communist period during which the movie was created, the first explanation seems the most logical. Played by the ethereally beautiful Libuška Šafránková, Popelka has to escape from the bondage of her lower social status. However, the way from the proletariat to the aristocracy requires magical help, clearly indicating the impossibility of such an act occurring in reality. The imperialist prince she marries, however, demonstrates a different message: the only success a woman of this era can achieve is marriage. Moreover, this success depended entirely on her being viewed as beautiful in the eyes of the dominant men. But we cannot accept these Marxist or feminist views as the only interpreta-

One-of-a-Kind Holiday Traditions

I

n every part of the world, there are different Christmas traditions. Each nation, even each family, has their specific traditions, such as going to get a tree on the 24th December in the morning, watching the same comedy each year, having a carp for dinner or singing Christmas carols. But while these are “normal” for us, the Christmas traditions in some countries are a bit… bizarre. In Slovakia, one of the traditional Christmas dishes is a poppyseed and honey bread pudding. That sounds very yummy, until the head of the family takes a spoonful of the pudding and flings it towards the ceiling. This unusual behaviour has an explanation: the

more of the pudding sticks to the ceiling, the better the harvest will be the following year. (Writer’s note: do not try this at home if your ceiling is freshly painted.) Continuing with Christmas dinners, people in Portugal always set a few plates more than needed, if any ghosts of their dead relatives would like to join them during the meal. They also prepare tions. After her mother’s death, Popelka worked hard to earn a better future away from her evil stepmother. And she succeeded! But maybe, her achieving her version of the American Dream was the mere product of her imagination, similar to how Lennie and George from Of Mice and Men imagined a place that would belong only to them (despite the fact that their wish was—spoiler alert—never fulfilled.) There is, of course, the possibility that the movie is a simple adaptation of a long-known fairytale. But this view seems almost heretic when conflicted with the fact that the movie’s theme song was recorded by Karel Gott - the godlike idol of Czechs, who would never sell his supernatural talents to simply appeal to the masses. Therefore, there is only one option left: watch Tři oříšky pro Popelku again this year with the hope of (re)discovering

extra food for the spirits. This gives everyone—dead or alive—the chance to complain about the turkey being too dry or the salad being too cold!

In the Ukraine, there is a special tradition that may not be liked by all: they decorate their Christmas trees with spider webs! While there is a nice story behind this, some people view this as an awful tradition. Apparently, long ago, there was a widow too poor to buy a Christmas tree, so her family only had a pinecone; it grew into a tree, but with no decorations. T

he protection of the environment is in the interest of all, yet many seem oblivious to the issue. The people who are aware of the importance of the issue are often viewed as liberal or even as 'hippie'. There seems to be a clash of opinion; however, it is more complicated due to the factual evidence provided by scientific research. We as the human race have the knowledge of the (mostly) negative impact our actions have had on the planet -- but in many cases, we prioritize profit or our own laziness over the environment. Nonetheless, this obstacle has been eliminated by the alternatives provided by the technological development as can be seen in the example of reliable renewable energies. The problem we face today is that people do not realize how little it takes to change and how much influence only a minor decision can make on the overall effort of environmental action. Have you ever wanted to volunteer and help the world? Or do you practice self-love? Both of these can be ticked off the list when you keep the environment in mind and make your decisions environment-friendly. Even the seemingly unimportant things can make a difference. For instance, carry a bottle of water with you and do not buy a new one every time you go out. Instead, choose to buy one made out of recycled or eco-friendly plastic. Carry a canvas-bag when you go grocery shopping instead of using plastic bags. By this, you reduce the waste produced, which most of the time ends up in the Pacific Ocean.

Helping to Redefine the Beauty Standard

L

iving in the digital age, we are each and every day bombarded with images of celebrities or Instagram personalities, who, with the help of Photoshop and 12 filters, burn into our minds what a beautiful person should look like. However, these so-called beauty standards have actually been imprinted on our brains since childhood. We have all watched movies and TV shows where the skinny girl with large breasts and Kate Middleton’s hair always succeed and the muscular boy with perfect hair always dates the ‘‘cutest’’ schoolgirl. We have all seen billboards populated by white models with impeccable skin and perfect smiles. We have all played with dolls whose bodies were close to malnourished and whose hair was too long or shiny to be real. But today, the same brands that brainwashed us as children are now trying to help redefine ideal beauty. Barbie and CoverGirl, in particular, are at the forefront of this ‘progress.’ The first step they took in order to help (after the realization that the whole world does actually not consist of light-skinned and slim people sunk in) was creating a range of products that would truly suit the majority of their customers. For CoverGirl and a lot of other beauty brands, this meant formulating and retailing darker foundation or powder shades and other beauty products that would be flatter-

If humans are caring by nature, they need to realize that even acts that do not seem so noble have a big impact on everyone around us. For example, if you are interested in helping people in third world countries, you can start by caring for the environment -- it has been proven that global warming will be most devastating for people living in poverty. If you care about the animals, do not eat meat and dairy produced on massive farms -- the concentration of cattle enhances the greenhouse effect. ave you ever offered your help to someone without actually wanting to help them? I believe that everyone has experienced this sudden impulse at least once in their life. In most cases, the person responds with a polite ‘’Thank you, but I’m alright.’’ Though, sometimes that person accepts your offer. Your reaction might be immediate confusion, anxiety, or in some cases, as I must unfortunately admit, panic. Why is this? Well, likely because you never actually meant what you’ve said n. What on earth led you to offer your help, then? The answer is the omnipresent urge to fulfill society's standards of helping others. Today’s society pushes its members to help each other in order to create a

more cordial world in which everyone can count on the support of others when they are facing times of difficulty. In the good old days (which likely never really existed), people felt the need to help simply because their heart or inner voice told them to do so. People were more altruistic in the very meaning of the word. They helped because their act of selflessness evoked warm satisfaction

and joy, and most importantly, they did so selflessly. That, sadly enough, does not apply to many today. Sometimes helping

others has shifted from concern for their well-being to obtaining one’s own profit, be it gaining certain status in the society or another selfish purpose. Help goes (or at least should go) hand-in-hand with selflessness. And that’s where the important question emerges. Is help still help if it loses its original hallmark? The perception of help definitely alters when it comes out of one’s pure conviction and when it is only done due to outer influence and on behalf of some forthcoming yield. Personally speaking, I would rather receive altruistic and affectionate help of insignificant measure than a lot of selfserving help. Nonetheless, help is - no matter what stands behind it - always help. Every act of help counts. Although nonaltruistic help does not belong to one of the most noble things to do, it is, in a way, a good deed. Those who are in desperate need of it will appreciate anything offered, after all. However, as you look around your OG teaching staff, you would be hardpressed to find a single teacher who hasn’t gone above and beyond with his or her commitment and offered help to the OG student body. From the many new clubs such as Latin, The OG Medical Society, English Drama & Theatre, the countless intra-school sporting activities, the Math challenges, and various D.of.E. offerings….well...the list is endless. Nearly every teacher at Open Gate has volunteered some form of his or her time to make your school experience that much better. We know that exposure to competition and performance and high stakes audiences helps you and your future goals. We know the special feeling of having someone publically tell you that you’ve done an excellent job. And, above all, we know that if we provide these opportunities for you, you’ll have a higher likelihood of paying it forward someday when you are a parent. Most of us know that in deciding to become a teacher, the hours will never be 9-5. However, too many great teachers are lost to this burnout factor. What keeps us going? The kind words. et me start with breaking the fourth wall and say that this is going to be one of the most cliché articles I have ever written. But as it generally the case with clichés, there's a good reason why the topic is so well-known, its flame

never extinguished despite all the attention it receives, despite all the eyerolling in its general direction. That reason for it is that without it, the world we live in would be a very sad, insecure place. You may have already guessed it: I'm talking about spontaneous acts of everyday help. Without doubt, you have encountered it many times in your life. A hand helping you down the stairs upon sudden dizziness, a kind voice of a stranger telling you directions to a café, a radiant smile thrown your way on one of your off days – did you just remember such a moment? Did you just remember someone who helped you spontaneously, just because you needed it? Did you remember how it warmed your heart? Maybe it provided a boost in your mood and life outlook, a reviving spark for your faith in humanity; maybe it inspired you to be kind to someone in return. I surely hope

something immediately crossed your mind – because being unintentionally, unconsciously kind an helpful is one of the best characteristics of people. It has accompanied us through history, through all geographical locations. There's a sort of built-in sense of compassion typical to human beings, like a moral compass we can't ignore. People care – easy as that. However, in modern times, it seems like this incredibly purity of human nature is valued less and less. People are expected to either make grand altruistic gestures or their actions are deemed unnecessary. What seems to matter today is raising fundraisers, helping out in poorer countries abroad or making a bold anti-discriminatory statement; what seems to matter less is continuous, quotidian kindness. Of course, raising money for a good cause or putting oneself out there for justice is extremely important, and the people partaking in such activities have my utmost respect. But without everyday efforts, without a shift in our mindset towards altruism and kindness, the world can never truly change. Plus, the motivation for these grand gestures needs to be considered. While it is true that many do it truly to be helpful to others, many also partake in such events for selfish reasons: to make themselves look good, to feel useful, to receive admiration from the society. What good are fundraisers if people are willing to help only in a grand way, only in a way that makes them seem worthy? What good are chari-

This time, in order to reflect the needs and problems of our dynamic world, the topic is help, something we could all use in our lives. Surprisingly, despite the positive connotations of the word, this topic is highly controversial. Some criticize the help between countries, some criticize the motivations behind volunteering, some criticize the society itself for guilting people into helping. However, we must never forget that solely the concept of help is incredibly important – where would we be without it? The articles in this issue reflect this, and remind us that there are multiple points of view to everything. So use critical thinking, but don’t forget to help out from time to time! he only time when philosophers share common ground is when one of them proclaims the superiority of morality. I am strongly opposed to such generalisation. It is up to every one of us to set his ultimate motivation. In order to emphasise that this issue certainly is not black and white, and that, in fact, it has more than fifty shades of grey, let me illustrate this though a simple thought experiment. Imagine it is a warm July night. The moon spills its silver glow over the golden field of spurring sunflowers. The only sounds to be heard are the leaves gently flapping, as the mild breeze lazily carries them around. Then you are greeted up by the devil himself. He offers you a deal. You are to earn a dollar if you lie to your mother. Likely, few (none) of us would sign up for this deal, but what if that one dollar became a million dollars? Would you deceive her? Here the game changes. Many of us would not hesitate and just do it (like Shia LaBeouf). This not only proves that mankind is greedy, but more alarmingly, that our morality is for sale. Following this model we can put a price tag on any morals that we have. Some people would sell their morals at a high price; for others the price would be less. The end result is still the same. But if morality is so easily sold, it means that humans have a different value to which they flock.

The Dangers of Tunnel Vision

W

hen somebody brings up the issue of feminism, do you consider this topic directly connected to you? Do you consider yourself a feminist? The most frequent answer I get is no, because feminism is apparently a thing only for poor Saudi women that were sprayed in the face with acid. Such a statement, however, is neither true nor it is a good approach towards this social problem. Feminism reacts to problems that pertain to all of us without exception, mainly because this concern is caused by the individuals who only think about themselves and not others. Usually, people tend to ask themselves if a specific problem in question is somehow decreas-

ing their personal quality of life. For example, the life of a poor Indian childbride is tragic, but most do not feel it is their problem and should help. The thing is, that if you do not suffer from a certain social problem, it doesn’t mean that the problem does not exist or that nobody around you suffers because of it. I understand that it is easier just to close your eyes, to say that you are sorry

I hear you cry: what are the alternatives? An apparent answer would be money because it is the thing that overwhelms morality. Or is it the happiness that so inevitably streams from wealth? For many, these are true; for many value comes from a completely different bunch of concepts. Love, friendship, power -- to name just few. We could disprove all of them. But what good would it do? This whole article only shows the single most amazing quality of human race: we all are different, not in a physical, but in a transcendental manner. I choose different goals; I decide dissimilarly and perceive things in a different way than the majority of you. My decisions originate from a moral codex that only I have the capacity to understand, but I doubt that I ever will. But who are we to judge my, your, his or her life philosophy? Everybody is right and wrong simultaneously. We only can hope to grasp ourselves, yet I believe most are still not fit to do the same with others. To bring this polemic to an end: morality is artificially constructed and the human mind is impossible to comprehend. VIKTOR ŘÍHA

he 44th Annual American Music Awards were held on Sunday the 20th of November 2016 at the Microsoft Theatre in Los Angeles, California. Each year the American Music Awards pays tribute to today’s most influential and iconic artists. The 2016 AMAs fell 31% from 2015 among adults 18-49 and 26% among viewers, to 8.2 million watching last night, and all-time low in the show history. This years Annual American Music Awards were hosted by Gigi Hadid (American model named the Daily Dronts Row’s “Model of the year” in 2015) and Jay Pharoah (American actor, stand-up comedian, impressionist, rapper, and voice actor. In 2015, he was ranked the 55th greatest Saturday Night Live cast member by Rolling Stone magazine).

There were several fantastic live performers including James Bay, Justin Bieber, Fifth Harmony, Lady Gaga, Green Day, Niall Horan, John Legend, Bruno Mars, Shawn Mendes, Twenty One Pilots, The Weeknd, special collaborations from The Chainsmokers and Halsey, Ariana Grande and Nicki Minaj, Maroon 5 with

American Music Awards nominees are based on key fan interactions as reflected in Billboard Magazine and on Billboard.com, including album and digital singles sales, radio airplay, streaming, social activity and touring. Currently there are up to 22 categories. The big winners of the night were Justin Bieber and Drake - each won four awards. Drake was also the artist with the most nominations. For example Ariana Grande won the ARTIST OF THE YEAR, Zayn won the NEW ARTIST OF THE YEAR, Beyoncé won the NEW ARTIST OF THE YEAR and Twenty One Pilots, one of my personal favourites, won the FAVORITE DUO OR GROUP - POP/ ROCK. Christians—the second influence—didn’t see the pig as a good symbol, they adjusted the tradition. In Christianity, the pig symbolized something inferior, being related to laziness, lust and filth. In fact, Christianity has quite affected the way we look at pigs now. And so when Christians were spreading their beliefs over the Slavic territory, they encountered this problem. While they saw pigs as something bad, the Slavs celebrated it as a symbol of the Sun, and therefore, as a symbol of life. What could the Christian leaders do? They did what they had done before with numerous different traditions. They adjusted it and made an exception. The golden piglet was supposed to be seen as a symbol of luck, and because Christmas occurred at a similar time as the solstice celebrations, early Christians connected it with their traditional fasting which originally lasted the whole Advent. Much time has passed since the origin of this custom; some things have changed, but the main idea stays. Although the fasting has shortened to only one day, Christmas Day, the vision of seeing the golden piglet at the end of the day is still a good motivation, though much of the rest of the Christian beliefs in our mostly-atheist country have been lost. In recent past, parents even used to carve the little pig out of wood and then show its silhouette on the wall to make their children happy. I believe it is a nice tradition and am glad it still remains. JOSEFÍNA DUŠKOVÁ

They interact with their audience as much as possible; they climbed on top of the audience and trusted the people with holding their whole bodies up—it is incredible! They also do a lot of stunts throughout their show; for example, Josh did a backflip on Tyler´s piano, and he played the drums on a platform that was being held up by the fans. This concert was one big blur. Luckily, I am not that type of person that gets uneasy in tight and sweaty sur-

roundings, but throughout the concert there were various people fainting and in need of paramedic help. I can say that this, no doubt, was the best concert I have ever been to. I am still in shock from the performance Twenty One Pilots put on, and I will never forget it. The thought that Tyler expressed his love for Prague and promised that they would— for sure—come back for a third time keeps me restlessly waiting for their next tour. LAUREN MULDOON

ne of our most known, even though probably not as followed, customs is the legend of the golden piglet. We all know that, when you do not eat anything at all until dinner on the Christmas Day, you may catch a glimpse of the golden piglet. But why? Why can’t we eat, why is it a pig and why isn’t it pink as usual? Where did all of this come from? There were two influences that helped in forming this famous tradition. The first one was the Slavic celebration of the solstice in December, which was held around 21st December. The celebration was mainly related to the Sun, because from the 21st of December, when the day is the shortest, the days start to prolong until the summer solstice in June, when the day is longest. In this tradition, the Sun is represented as gold and the pig stands as the symbol of prosperity. But

Experience of a lifetime

T

he 4th of November is a day I will always remember; it’s the day my all-time favourite band came to play a concert in Prague. The second I heard about Twenty One Pilots (TOP) coming to Prague, I freaked out. When I got the ticket I got this rush of emotions, knowing that I would be able to see my idols play live and the idea of being in the same room as them was the best feeling ever. I went to the concert with my friend Valery; we wanted to make the most out of it and have the “full experience”. We sat in front of Tipsport Arena for 5 hours. The first four hours and 30 minutes went by really fast, as we made new friends and met our old friends we had seen at another concert. It was a great feeling knowing that you fit in somewhere. All of us were interested in the

same things. We sat there and sang songs and shared our love for the group. Throughout those few hours we also managed to meet the lead singer´s kind and friendly wife Jenna while she was on her way to explore Prague. But the last 30 minutes were the longest 30 minutes ever. When it came down to the moment when the doors opened and the security guards started checking our tickets, our tickets did not work…there go our 1st row spots. Most people would say that it is better to get sitting spots, come 15 minutes before the show and watch the concert from far away, but with TOP this was not an option for us. We had to stand in the pit and be as close as possible to Tyler and Josh. Even though we had problems with our tickets and we were not in the first row, we still were very close and still had the time of our lives. When we took our spots in the pit we dreaded the opening act and just wanted the boys to finally come out. To our surprise the opening act was a cheerful and talented Irish singer going by the name Bry. The hour went by very fast. After that we knew that we would see the one thing we had waited for the whole day. When we heard the first chords of Heavydirtysoul and saw the silhouettes of our icons, the arena filled with excitement and euphoria. I felt like fainting. This group is not the untouchable

Few words from Open Gate‘s young actors

A

s you probably know, this year our school has established a new drama club and our students have just completed their first performance, a highly expected classic tale by Charles Dickens A Christmas Carol. I interviewed a few of our fellow OG schoolmates starring in the play and asked them some questions regarding the drama club in general .

First up was Adam Polánek portraying the one and only Mr. Scrooge: Q: Since you have an enormous amount of lines to learn as Ebenezer Scrooge, how do you manage to balance your school duties, preparing for IB, being a Student Editor for OG Chronicle and at the same time spending so much effort on participating in the play? AP: I was, am, and probably always will be terrible at time management, so balancing responsibilities (and sleep) is a difficulty. I try to prioritize on the basis of importance, but I often give way to what is the most enjoyable thing to do. Q: Have you enjoyed your time and work with the drama club? Would you recommend it to other students? AP: I was hoping for a English drama club to

be created, so I am glad to be part of it! Thanks to our school´s environment, we all know each other and we keep the rehearsals informal and friendly. Whether you love acting or not, I definitely recommend joining as one can learn a lot, especially about themselves. Next up were my two classmates Pája Hrachovcová (who played Mrs. Cratchit and the Errand Girl) and Honza Hrebík (who played Scrooge´s Nephew, Teenage Scrooge and Apprentice Scrooge). Q: You're in the youngest year that could qualify for the Christmas Carol play this year. Did you ever feel a little uneasy, as if the older students would judge you, or were you all equal? PH: I think that even younger students could qualify, but they just didn't. In my point of view we are all equal. I don't feel like being judged by other students just because they're older and I'm grateful that no one does that. Q: Is there anything you could say about how have the preparations/rehearsing for A Christmas Carol been going to persuade any potential applicants to join this club? HH: I enjoy playing in our costumes from the 19th century. Furthermore, we have perfect props which make our play interesting. I really look forward to our performance and you should, too, because tehy will be amazing and an unforgettable experience! (If you miss it, watch the video!) And one more thing… don't hesitate to sign up for our next play! (If our two directors find the energy for another one!)

And last, but not least, was Adéla Chroustová starring as Ghost of Christmas Past and the Maid: Q: You practiced for two and a half months for this play. Do you feel prepared? AC: Well, since the beginning we have put much effort into working as a team from the start to the end. So in those terms, yes we are prepared but, of course, getting into our characters to the fullest was, I think, a challenge for everyone! So for the premiere we are more excited than the audience to see the final result but if there's one thing than that's a Christmas spirit as a theatre play for the first time ever in the history if OG! Charles Dicken's Christmas Carol is a magnificent play so being just able to perform on stage for a great audience will be a great pleasure. Now that the OG adaption of Charles Dicken’s A Christmas Carol has come and gone, it is safe to say it was a huge success! After four performances and over 350 audience members, our actors have earned their Christmas break. Hopefully this has inspired others to try out for other upcoming OG plays. VALERIE PYTJUK

A Teacher‘s Glimpse into School in the Last Century

ave you ever thought about what is it like to be a teacher? And what it was like to be a teacher in last century? I had not, until I decided to interview my grandma who used to be a teacher. Her name is Marie and she was a primary school teacher for 37 years. She grew up in a poor family, and her life was not very easy. However, all of these circumstances made her as strong as one could ever be, and I think that that can be a very useful skill for every teacher. Firstly I would like to ask you how did you become a teacher? Was it your childhood dream to teach kids or did destiny bring you to it? It certainly hadn’t been my dream to become a teacher. After graduation I’ve got an offer from my former teacher to work in a school as the head of a pioneers club and I accepted the offer because my parents couldn’t pay for my education anymore. After two years of leading the club I started remotely studying the Fac-

Afternoon

I

f there is anyone out there who is devastated because of their burning desire to experience an eternity of standing on a city square or sitting on some city stairs while incurring an infinite amount of misunderstandings and “jamón”, there’s a teeny, tiny thing to tell you. You definitely should have (or should have chosen) ESPAÑOL as your second language. This does not just mean having a chance to learn a language that can turn you into a stereotypical “talking taco” or an expressively loud person with a mustache and a sombrero. This beautiful language also means you get to go to Spain with your beloved Spanish class and teachers! And, as in years before, this trip took place this fall as Kvinta and Sexta students went on the journey of their lives. The destination: Toledo, Spain. Let’s start with the most important differences we encountered. Firstly, Spaniards have some rather interesting ways of spending a Saturday afternoon.... It begins with a very sophisticated plan. First, the plan is to meet up with everyone, of course. However, whatever meeting time is set, there will always be are at least three people who come late. (Though this can be common in any big group of friends.) After everyone turns up, if they do, friends naturally have to talk to each other. In Spain, friends talk more than a lot. So this small talk takes them around 45 minutes. “Okay, now we really have to decide what to eat for lunch guys!” Do not forget we are in Spain and it is 4 o’clock in the afternoon, so yes, lunch. Standing on the Toledo’s square, where there are maybe four or five places where one can eat, the decision still takes another thirty minutes. In the end, the group either ends up at the first suggested place or all go elsewhere and begin again. Lunch is a surprisingly long business. Afterwards there is naturally another meet up, so the whole process repeats itself. Now that we are not hungry anymore, we can go somewhere and hang out. That’s when the next exciting adventure began. Passing by several interesting places “to hang”, the final choice became the city stairs where we ended up sitting like a live wall. We quickly got used to this and became professionals. Every time there were stairs in sight, we were able to make a human wall so that we were invisible to the Spaniards. Seriously, in the end, though, we had a great time, which leads me to thank our hosts for an amazing trip. Our afternoons spent together were anything but ordinary! TEREZA CHÁROVÁ

Toledo, Lugar De Leyendas No Solo Para Bécquer cuando oyes la pa¿Q uélabraimaginas Toledo o cuando ves esta foto? Toledo es un lugar muy relacionado con nuestro colegio, es amado por nuestros profesores y estudiantes y cada año los alumnos de español lo visitan. Pero, ¿por qué Toledo? ¿Por qué no Barcelona o Valencia? La respuesta es muy fácil. Toledo no es simplemente una ciudad antigua, sino que es realmente un sitio fascinante, extraordinario, bello y llenísimo de inspiración. Esta es la razón porque no solamente nosotros, alumnos de Open Gate, sino todo el mundo visita Toledo, porque es un lugar perfecto para hacer arte o escribir obras literarias muy originales y tal vez misteriosas. Esa idea la tuvo también el gran escritor Gustavo Adolfo Bécquer. En 1856, Bécquer decidió viajar a Toledo con su hermano, ya que pensaba que en esta ciudad se podía encontrar inspiración, aparte de ser un lugar de amor y peregrinación favorable. Como resultado, Bécquer escribió unas leyendas de Toledo y hablaremos de una que se

llama El Beso. Es una leyenda corta, solamente construida de párrafos sin capítulos. Se trata de la llegada del ejército francés a la ciudad de Toledo, el cual no tenía alojamiento, así que tuvieron que quedarse en una antigua iglesia. Al día siguiente el capitán dijo a sus camaradas soldados que esa noche había dormido al lado de una mujer bellísima, pero que esa mujer era una estatua de mármol de una tumba. Entonces sus amigos se rieron de él, por lo que les invitó esa noche a tomar champaña para que pudieran ver la

estatua. Por la tarde los soldados fueron a la iglesia y empezaron a beber y hacer locuras. El capitán luego señaló la mencionada estatua y dijo que era de una mujer llamada Doña Elvira, y que la estatua del hombre que había a su lado era la de su marido. ¿Sabes qué pasa después? Realmente el final es inesperado y muy bueno, en mi opinión. Me gustó mucho leer esta leyenda, especialmente porque ya estuve en Toledo y en todos los lugares mencionados en El Beso. Lo bueno es que no es difícil de entender, la historia es brillante, dramática y un poco de miedo. Definitivamente la recomiendo para todas las edades. Y creo que para los estudiantes que ya estuvieron en Toledo será muy interesante leer esta leyenda y recordar los sitios como la plaza de Zocodover o el Alcázar. Sin embargo, también es una buena idea que los alumnos que todavía no han estado en Toledo la lean, pues puede ser útil para conocer un poco de Toledo antes de viajar allí. uál es la mejor forma de aprender una lengua extranjera? Vivir en el país y hablar la lengua cada día. Por eso cada año los que estudiamos español y estamos en kvinta o sexta vamos a un viaje increíble. Este año no fue la excepción y en octubre se llevó a cabo por séptima vez el intercambio con el I.E.S. Carlos III de Toledo.

El sábado 15 de octubre empezamos el examen más grande de nuestra independencia. Por una semana vivimos con una familia completamente extraña. La mayoría de nosotros pudo utilizar su español fuera de la escuela por primera vez.

Además de mejorar nuestro español, hemos conocido muchos nuevos amigos que podemos tener para el resto de nuestra vida. Es tan importante tener amigos en diferentes países, porque solo así se puede tener una visión global. Uno de los mejores aspectos de España es que su gente es sumamente simpática, amable y hospitalaria. Juntos nos divertimos mucho. Por ejemplo, viajamos a Madrid donde tuvimos tiempo libre por siete horas. ¡Esto solo puede pasar en España! Casi todo en el viaje fue diferente de los viajes normales en la escuela. Estábamos mucho más solos, ¡algunos días no veíamos a las profesoras en absoluto! Y también podíamos acostarnos mucho más tarde que en la República Checa. Puedes pensar que lo más difícil en España era hablar en español. Pero la verdad es que lo más difícil para mí fue adap-

ada cultura tiene sus propias tradiciones. Dentro de estas se incluyen los cuentos infantiles. Me atrevo a decir que todos nosotros tenemos aquel cuento preferido que nuestros padres nos leían para darnos las buenas noches. Usualmente el propósito de un cuento es enseñarles a los niños sobre la gente y los animales y la moral que rige sus relaciones. Lo que es interesante es que algunos cuentos pueden ser aterradores, como cualquier película de terror.

Un ejemplo es el cuento de La caperucita roja. Esta chica solo quería visitar a su abuela, pero un lobo se la come y a su abuela también. Por suerte, al final del cuento un guardabosque las rescata y todo sale bien. Este cuento es optimista, pero no todos los cuentos lo son. Hace pocos días Lucía y yo leímos un cuento español que se llama La Ratoncita Presumida. Es un relato corto sobre el romance entre un gato y una ratoncita. Lo malo es que tiene un final muy trágico. La ratoncita conoce al gato y es seducida por su maullido. El gato se casa con ella, la ratoncita está feliz porque está totalmente enamorada. Pero la primera noche después de la boda, el gato se come a su esposa. Y aunque hay versiones que tienen un buen final, la versión trágica de La Ratoncita Presumida es la más popular.

Una Semana Involvidable En Toledo

Creemos que los cuentos son una parte muy importante de la cultura en cada país, especialmente para los niños. Por eso precisamente pensamos que es bueno que haya diferentes versiones, unas terribles, sí, pero también otras más ligeras y sin finales trágicos. Français Le chagrin du Père Noël

C

omme tout le monde sait, le père Noël vit au pôle Nord avec ses rennes. Une année, la veille de Noël, le renne Marcel, a vu le père pleurer. Marcel a été très surpris et il a essayé de le calmer et il lui a dit : "C’est juste la fatigue, tu peux te reposer la semaine prochaine." Le père Noël a accepté, il s’est mouché et s’est calmé mais un moment après, il a pleuré à nouveau. "Je sais que c’est très égoïste mais je voudrais voir le Noël, juste une fois…Je voudrais voir comment sont les gens et les enfants sont heureux ce jour-là. "a dit le père. Marcel a réfléchi et il a inventé un plan - ils pourraient passer le temps dans chaque maison. "C’est impossible ! Marcel, tu sais que je ne me peux pas me montrer aux enfants le jour de Noël !"dit le père. Alors, Marcel a eu une autre idée; le père va se déguiser. Cette nuit, après la distribution des cadeaux, le père Noël a garé son traineau derrière le jardin public et ici, Marcel et le père Noël ont mis de vieux vêtements des skieurs avec un bonnet, un anorak et une paire de skis sur l'épaule, ils ont pris la route. C’était le matin et ils pouvaient entendre les enfants heureux pendant le déballage des cadeaux. Le père Noël a été

on conte préféré quand j’étais petit c’était ‘Krteček’ (‘La Petite Taupe’). J’adore les animations et aussi la simplicité de cette histoire. C’est une histoire avec quatre personnages - la petite taupe, le souriceau, le hérisson et l’aigle. ‘Krteček’ était très amusant pour moi. VÁCLAV KEREKANIČ

on conte préféré était ‘Un oeuf en vadrouille’ parce que ma tante me la faisait voir chaque fois que je voulais, peut-être dix fois par jour. En plus, j’ai aimé le fait qu’un œuf peut marcher et tous les animaux le trouvent normal. Ce conte était très amusant donc il me faisait beaucoup rire. TEA VULASOVÁ ‘La belle et la bête’ parce que le J ’adore protagoniste principal n’est pas la princesse mais c’est une fille très intelligente qui étudie beaucoup et elle n’a pas peur des aventures. très heureux. Après, ils ont frappé à la porte numéro 14 et Madame Guérin leur a ouvert. Derrière elle, Marcel et le père Noël ont vu six petites filles qui cherchaient leurs cadeaux. Le père Noël a été très touché. Mais d’un coup, Madame Guérin a dit : "Je ne sais pas qui vous êtes et je suis aussi très occupée. Venez une autre fois" et elle a fermé la porte. Ils n’ont pas été découragés et ils ont essayé la porte numéro 32. Madame Duval leur a ouvert. "Bonjour, je m’appelle Marcel et nous voudrons passer un jour avec vous… nous pouvons entrer ?" dit Marcel. Madame Duval a répondu que c’était très aimable mais elle était en train de préparer le déjeuner et aussi, elle préférait rester le jour de Noël avec sa famille. Madame Duval, elle aussi, a fermé la porte. Marcel a regardé le père, il n'était pas loin

de se remettre à pleurer. Maintenant, ils ont mis des costumes d’anges et ils ont chanté un chant de Noël devant la porte numéro 43. Madame Lebrun s’est penché à la fenêtre et elle a hurlé : "Pourriez-vous s'il vous plaît aller chanter ailleurs? Pensezvous qu'il n'y a pas assez de bruit avec les enfants qui jouent de la flûte avant cinq heures du matin ?" Le père Noël, au bord des larmes, a fuit vers le traineau. Quand ils sont arrivés au pôle Nord, le père Noël s'est installé juste devant la cheminée et il s'est reposé. Quand il s’est réveillé, il n’a pas pu trouver ses bottes. Après un moment, il les a trouvées et il y avait huit cadeaux ! Le père Noël a été très surpris. Soudain, il a entendu un grand cri : "Joyeux Noël, père Noël !"Les huit rennes sont entrés avec les six filles de madame Guérin et les enfants de madame Duval et madame Lebrun. Bientôt, il y avait toutes sortes de plats délicieux. Après, les enfants ont applaudi et le père Noël a ouvert ses cadeaux. Il a reçu des chaussettes, un bonnet et un pull avec le motif de rennes. Le père Noël était très heureux. Il a mis les chaussettes et le pull et il a dansé avec les enfants. Et c'est ainsi que le père Noël a oublié son chagrin. TEREZA JAKOUBKOVÁ

Deux réfugiés font rire la France

«M

erde, la vie en France est très, très difficile et la langue française aussi! » disent deux acteurs syriens,les jumeaux Mohammad et Ahmad, dans la pièce portant le nom tout simple : Les deux refugiés. Après leur fuite du régime syrien ils se sont installés à Paris, en France où ils ont obtenu l'asile politique. Après quatre ans de vie en France, ils ont décidé de raconter leur histoire avec l´humour. Ils se sont inspirés de leur résidence et ils ont aussi tiré d'un roman du dramaturge polonais Slawomir Mrozek. Les deux artistes ont créé une performance drôle. La performance décrit l'histoire de deux réfugiés qui habitent à Paris et leurs difficultés qu'ils doivent surmonter quand ils s'adaptent à leur nouvelle vie. Même si la transition est difficile, les Syriens vont devenir plus proches. Le show utilise l'humour pour traiter de grands problèmes mais aussi pour sensibiliser leur auditoire. Le show a été présenté récemment

pour la première fois à l’Institut Français d’Amman, en Jordanie mais les postulants pourront voir la performance à Lyon et dans les autres grandes villes de France. Les artistes ont dit que "Ces problèmes commencent par les difficultés de l'intégration et de la langue." "Le but n'est pas seulement de parler des réfugiés mais en plus de trouver une solution à la crise qu'ils traversent et la France ou les Etats-Unis sont parfaitement capables de trouver une solution s'ils le veulent." ajoute Ahmad. Les hommes aussi disent qu’ils ne veulent pas se présenter comme des victimes mais parler des personnes dépossédées. Mohammad et Ahmad disent que, malgré toutes les difficultés, la France leur a beaucoup donné et elle leur a ouvert ses portes et leur a offert la liberté. Échange scolaire avec la Bretagne

e 7 octobre, le groupe de cinq jeunes français (quatre filles et un garçon) sont arrivés à Open Gate. C’étaient les correspondants de sexta. Ils ont passé avec nous deux semaines. Le premier weekend, les étudiants de sexta et les français sont allés à Prague. Nous avons vu des monuments historiques. Dimanche, tous les correspondants sont restés dans nos familles où ils ont eu la possibilité de connaitre la vie réelle d’une famille tchèque et notre culture.

Du lundi au vendredi, les français ont visité nos cours. Ils ont pu choisir quatre matières plus l’anglais et le français. Bien sûr, ils n’ont pas suivi les cours de la langue tchèque mais ils ont dit que la langue tchèque était très similaire à la langue chinoise, parce que nous parlons plus rapidement et utilisons les consonnes comme "š" ou "ř". Le soir, ils avaient un programme amusant par exemple la soirée où les français ont mangé des bonbons tchèques. En plus, nous avons visité le musée du communisme avec madame Perekopská et nous sommes allés faire des courses au centre commerciale. Nous avons proposé aux étudiants français de venir voir comment nous passons notre temps libre - ils ont assisté aux ateliers de la natation, du jardinage ou bien du yoga.

Nous voulions présenter aux français la culture et l’histoire tchèque, donc nous avons cuisiné des plats tchèques, nous avons regardé des films tchèques ou nous avons fait une présentation de l’histoire tchèque. Après les bisous-bisous, nos correspondants sont partis le 21 octobre. J’ai beaucoup aimé cet échange parce que c’était une très bonne occasion pour parler français et apprendre quelque chose de nouveau. NATALIE ŽALMANOVÁ

ie ihr wohl wisst, hat es vor kurzem eine Präsidentenwahl in den USA gegeben. Leute haben zwischen der demokratischen Kandidatin Hillary Clinton und dem republikanischen Milliardär Donald Trump wählen können. Nach Meinung der meisten Medien sollte Hillary die Wahl gewinnen, deshalb war der Sieg Trumps eine Überraschung für alle. Man konnte nach der Wahl verärgerte Lehrer (und Lehrerinnen) in unserer Schule sehen. Auch für mich und Alex, da wir uns sehr für Politik interessieren, kam das Ergebnis sehr überraschend. Die Stimmungen in OG waren sehr unterschiedlich, jeder fragte jeden nach seiner Ansicht. Ich und Alex hatten eine Idee! Wie wäre es mit einer InternetUmfrage, an der alle Schüler und Lehrer

teilnehmen könnten? Schließlich kamen Antworten von insgesamt 174 Personen zusammen! Es gab 4 Fragen. Die ersten zwei: das Alter und das Geschlecht. Die dritte: Für wen würden Sie stimmen? Die Antworten waren sehr klar. 50% würden für Hillary stimmen, 33% für Donald, und andere 17% geteilt zwischen Gary Johnson und Jill Stein. Obwohl Hillary gewinnen würde, wissen wir, dass Bernie Sanders auch sehr beliebt ist. Die vierte Frage war: wen von den demokratischen Kandidaten hätten Sie lieber? 63% waren für Bernie, der Rest für Hillary. Was ist das Ergebnis? Die Schüler und Lehrer von Open Gate denken anders als der überwiegende Teil der Amerikaner. MATYÁŠ BOSÁK

m Oktober war Halloween. Auch wir in Open Gate haben es gefeiert. Am Mittwoch gab es eine Disko – mit viel Essen und Getränken, schöner Musik und einer Jury. Ich war auch in der Jury. Wir verglichen die Kostüme der Anwesenden und wir haben gestimmt, welches das Topkostüm war, und wählten dann auch noch die zweit- und drittbeste Kleidung. Das schönste Kostüm gehörte Amálka aus Sekunda, die als eine Dusche verkleidet war. Am Donnerstag stemmten wir Kürbisse. Meine Lieblingskürbis war die IB Kürbis. Die war einzigartig! JAN KAČENKA

Was wisst ihr über den Golem

D

ie Mehrheit von euch hat sicher schon einmal über den Golem gehört. Wenn ich die Frage „Wer ist/war Golem?“ euch stellen würde, würde fast jeder so etwas antworten: Golem ist ein Wesen, das man aus dem Ton geschaffen hat. Es ist ein starker Riese und man hat ihn geschaffen, weil er die Leute in Armut oder Not beschützen sollte. Ja, das würde jeder sagen, der den Film „Císařův pekař a pekařův císař“ gesehen hat. In diesem Artikel möchte ich euch zeigen, dass das Wort Golem mehrere Bedeutungen hat, und dass der Golem viel älter ist als der von dem Märchen. Dazu werde ich das Buch „Der Golem“ von Gustav Meyrink und eine Geschichte vom alten Ägypten benutzen.

Der Golem ist der Titel eines Romans, den Gustav Meyrink in dem Jahr 1913 geschrieben hat. Gustav Meyrink war österreichischer Schriftsteller und Übersetzer, der lange Zeit in Prag lebte. In diesem Buch beschreibt Meyrink das schöne alte Prag und die Legende vom Golem. Die ursprüngliche Legende kommt genau aus diesem Buch. Kurz gefasst: im Jahr 1580 hat am Ufer der Moldau Rabbi Löw nach verlorengegangenen Vorschriften der Kabbala den Golem aus Lehm geschaffen, weil er sich einen Gehilfen wünschte, der die Juden beschützen sollte. Der Golem von der Legende war kein Riese, er sah fast wie ein Mensch aus. Hauptsächlich aber hat in der Geschichte von Meyrink sich der Golem zu Staub verwandelt – und dieses Motiv spielt eine große Rolle in der Geschichte. Den „Tod“ des Golems gibt es in dem tschechischen Film nicht, weil der Film nicht genau nach dem Buch gemacht wurde. Es gibt mehrere Unterschiede zwischen dem Film und dem Buch, das ist aber nicht so wichtig. Das Wort Golem ist aber noch viel älter als der Roman von Meyrink. Das Wort Golem kommt im alten Ägypten zum ersten Mal vor. Man hat schon im 6. Jahrhundert vor Christus das Wort Golem in einer Kurzgeschichte erwähnt. Golem ist hier das hebräische Wort für „formlose Masse und ungeschlachter Mensch“. Eigentlich erinnert es an die

Erschaffung des biblischen Adams. Adam wurde sowie der Golem aus Lehm und Staub geknetet. Überdies kann man sagen, dass Golem Adam ohne Seele und Atem ist.

ls ich Kind war, mein Lieblings Märchen war immer das Aschenputtel. Ich habe über sie nicht nur Bücher gelesen, CDs gehören und Filme gesehen. Ich habe auch den Platz, wo der tschechische Film gedrehten war, besucht. Vor der Schloss da in Sachsen liegt ständig der Schuh von mein Traum Mädchen, für kleine und große Kinder zu ein Foto nehmen. ch mochte Märchen nie. Alle. Für mich, Märchen war sehr brutal. Und wenig unterhaltsam. Ich mochte nicht Prinzessinnen, aber die Prinzen waren noch schlechter. Märchen des Bruders Grimm war wirklich horroren. Ja, ich mag Deutche Märchen am wenigste. JOHAN ROTT Zusammenfassend lässt sich sagen, dass es viele unterschiedliche Legenden über den Golem gibt, aber nur eine (nämlich die, die aus dem Buch „Der Golem“ stammt) ist die originale. Lest sie! rognika je dnes takřka monotematická, protože je takřka celá dílem studentek a studentů sekund. Inspirací ke kolektivní tvorbě byla jedna z pohádek Jana Wericha – Chlap, děd, vnuk, pes a hrob. Tato pohádka je zvláštní tím, že je celá napsána jednoslabičnými slovy, což v češtině není věc zrovna jednoduchá, a proto si i mistr slova musel pomáhat tu a tam nespisovnými výrazy a tvary. Werichova pohádka má 697 slov, a přestože se jednotliví mladí tvůrci samostatně přes tuto metu nedostali (některé texty mají však přes 500 slov!), dohromady je za každou třídu mnohonásobně překročena. Sami uvidíte, že se někteří nechali Werichem inspirovat – text se pak hemží psy a mrtvolami – mnohé texty jsou však svědectvím o veliké tvůrčí invenci začínajících tvůrců. A na závěr přináší jednu Kulišárnu (promiň Vláďo), která nám i vám jistě navodí příjemnou podzimně zimní atmosféru. PETR ŠRŮTA

Teď však se tím víc, až pán vstal a vzal si zbraň. zved´ a dal se v běh, tam, co je hvozd. „Vem si ho! Drž ho! Jen mu dej!!“ Chce se v něm skrýt. Křik, sběh a ryk, chlap chce pryč, je „Jen ho nech,“ řek děd. „ Kdo zná líp tu však pes i pán, je to už kmet, a řve: „Já kraj? Kdo z nás tu rost´? Teď bych chtěl ti dám u nás krást!“ A kmet se rve jak lok, jak pes chce kost.“ kdys, když byl mlád. Vnuk mu dal džin. Leč chlap je mlád dnes a dnes má víc „Vem psa a pojď,“ řek´ děd a mlask. sil! Kmet už je mdlý, chlap na něj klek a „Dej si též hlt.“ Vnuk písk´ na psa a šli. chce ho bít, když tu zlý pes se zved´ a Chlap si sed pod strom. Kůň mu chňap! Chlap má prst pryč. Než pes zdech´, pes si vzal prst a ten kolt, co po spolk´ prst, než kmet se vzmoh´, chlap něm šleh´ jak blesk, mu z plic vzal dech i skrz sklep jde ven. Tam, co je vchod, je krev. Chtěl by jít dál. Leč čím dál tím míň schod a u něj hůl, spíš kyj. Kmet se chtěl má sil, je bled, je sláb, je sám, má strach.

Pán a pes

il byl pán a ten psa měl. Žil sám jen s Pes rád ho měl a pán zas psa. Pes Rek a pán Jan. Jan rád pil čaj a měl rád med. Ten si však splet´ a sůl v čaj dal. Pil a pliv: „Já se snad sek´? To sůl, ne med!“ A pak pán řek´: „Hnus.“ A dal si rum. Dost hlt´ si a pak zas a zas. Vzal šál a hůl a řek´: „ Jdu ven, snad v les. Ty pse tu stůj, dům chraň a střež!“ Pes štěk´ a stál, v něm žal a stesk byl. Chtěl jít též v les a s ním tam být. Tak Rek tam stál, byl sám a pak i vyl. Však pán už byl pryč. Pán šel a šel a splín se vkrad. A stín v les pad´ a tma je tu zas. Už je tu noc a pryč je den. Zle šlo se mu, vše ve tmě už, tu smrk, tu dub a tu zas buk. Prásk! Pán pad´ na zem a kloub si zvrt´. Syk´ a řek´: „To je zas pech! Kde je můj pes? Já sám tu jsem a zle mi je. Chci žít! Chci jít zpět za psem, tam u něj být. A s ním si hrát a srst mu třít. Tak lkal tam a o psu snil. Kde se vzal, tu se vzal, vlk tu stál. Hlad měl: „Co bych tak sněd´? Hm. Hm. Ty zdáš se být má krm!“ Pán přál si luk a šíp tu mít. Či meč a štít a v boj se dát. Tu zrak mu pad´ na nůž. „Bůh chraň mě! Slyš můj hlas!“ Křik, vrh´ se vpřed a ťal. Pak zlý byl boj – tu dráp, tu zub, tu chlup a krev a

Děd králem sval a řev. Pak klid. A smrt. Kdo živ je? Vlk? Ne! Pán! A řve jak tur: „Já živ jsem, dík!“ A zní i smích a pláč a splín je pryč. Déšť smyl mu krev a pán šel zpět. A pes byl rád, hned za ním šel. O něj se třel a u něj leh. „Už jsem zpět!“ pán řek´. „My dva jsme tým, já jsem si řek´, že ve dvou je nám líp! Sám v les jít? Ne víc! Já blb byl, za to moh´ ten rum.“ A rum pak vzal a BUM.

Král už zheb´, Dál šli, však stál tu drak. tak jdem´ na hrad, ten už je náš.“ Hoch bil se sto let, až drak pad´, a Lid šel na hrad a už byl tam, však dřív hoch teď už děd tam tak stál a měl tam stál duch, co tu byl král. Lid se lek´ a hlad. Tak kouk´ se a tam pes byl a měl zas zdrh´ až tam, kde děd, teď už duch, křeč. Tak děd psa vzal a nes´ ho pryč, to znal. Tam lid byl a žil. však pes měl tu křeč, ale pak sněd´ ten Tak tam zbyl jen duch, co zle vlád´, sýr, co tu byl a v něm byl jed a ten pes a tak si sed na trůn a byl tam, až šel hoch, zheb´. Když pán vstal, tak kouk´ na psa, co měl nůž a psa. Tak duch šel a zas spal, však pes byl pryč. jak dřív, když žil. Tak duch spal. Psa vzal děd, co dřív byl hoch, co No a jak je to dál? To vím jen já a rád zbil je dřív oba dva. Ten pes, co zheb´ a bych to řek´, ale už je čas, a já jdu dál, by chcíp´, a ten zlý děd měl hlad, tak psa znal jsem, co znát mám. Tak se ptej, jak je zved´, vzal a chtěl ho sníst. Tak ten náš to dál, bys to znal tak jak já. To je vše a já děd si vzal nůž a šmik, šmik. Zlý děd jdu dál, tak buď rád, že víš to, co jsem ti pad´. Tak zheb´ pes i zlý děd. řek já. Ten děd, co žil už zas, spal jak dřív, když byl mlád. Když však vstal, řek´ si: „Když tu byl pes, tak jsem byl rád, ale teď jsem sám.“ Tak šel a pak si řek: „Už to mám,“ a šel si pro nůž, co měl tak rád. Šel a klel jak zlý děd, co psa mu sněd´. Chlap, děd, vnuk, pes a hrob Kde Dub žil

yl svět, tam kraj, kde žil Dub. Dub byl stár. Když byl mlád, stál tam sám. Teď je tu s ním Buk. Hle, jde pán. Za ním kůň. Kůň hop, a byl pryč. Pán byl sám. Tu je les, tam Buk tam Dub. Tu je pán a za ním pes. Trh, a pes má vlas. Pán měl vlas, už ho má pes. Pán hop, a je pryč. Pes skok, a je ten tam. Hle! Je tu drak! Tu les, v něm Dub a Buk a drak. Drak frk, a Buk byl fuč. Drak se smál. Dub se bál. Drak dup, a už byl pryč. Dub je sám. Je moc rád. Vše je pryč. Drak, pán, kůň, pes i Buk. Dub má kmen. V něm je hmyz. Tu je muž a ten má nůž. Nůž sek, a hmyz je fuč. Dub je zas rád. Muž má ale furt nůž. Nůž zas sek´, a kmen je pryč. Má ho muž. Má i nůž. Muž má i pec. Do ní dá kmen. Dá tam i chléb. Muž leh´ na pec, jde spát. Chléb se pek´, muž spal. Dub byl pryč, jak: drak, hmyz, pán, pes, kůň a Buk. Nůž měl muž. Muž vstal. Měl hlad. Dal si chléb a šel pryč. Pec tam dál je. Kmen je v ní. Kmen blaf, a byl fuč. Šla smrt. Šla na pec. Muž šel k ní. „Kdo jsi?” ptal se muž. „Smrt, a jdu si pro tvou pec.” Muž chcíp´, a smrt má pec. Jde lev a chramst, sněd´ smrt. Lev stál. A dál měl hlad, tak sněd´ pec a klec a stůl i dům, co muž měl. Pec plá, klec křup, stůl rup a dům řach. Byl svět, tam kraj, tam Dub a Buk. Byl tam pán a pes a kůň a drak a hmyz. Byl tam muž, byl tam nůž. Byl tam kmen a pec a chléb a smrt. Byl tam stůl a klec a dům, co měl muž. Teď je tu lev, ten má srst. Má i vši a řve „ÁÁÁÁÁ!” Pak lev zív´ a chcíp´ a už je tu jen vzduch.

Pes jak blesk

M

ůj pes je jak blesk. Když jde ven, tak skok sem tam a hned je pryč. Vždy ale zpět včas je, dnes však ne. Tři dny jsou pryč a furt nic. Co dál, mám se bát? Snad ne! Kam mám jít, kdo ví? Já ne. Chci ho zpět zas mít. Jdu ven dál a dál, tma je tu a můj pes je pryč. Kap, kap, blesk a hrom, déšť je tu. Vím, že je to zlé, bůh mě chraň, snad můj pes je zdráv. Noc je tu, stan už mám, vzdát se to ne! Zpěv mi zní, vstát chci hned a dál jít. Hle, můj pes je zde. Hned mu jíst a pít dám. Svůj den zas fajn mám.

Kolt

Byl kluk a luk

a ten kolt má jen J anden.máDnesjen bysvůjsnadkoltsněd´ i ten svůj kolt. Však když mu Tom kolt dal tak řek´: „Když máš hlad tak ho sněz.” Jan má strach, že si kolt dá teď hned. To by na něj však byl Tom zlý. Tom ten kolt snad fakt měl rád. I tak si Jan řek: „Pryč s ním, s tím! Dál jdu jen bez něj.” A pak Jan us´ a spal a spal. A jak tak spal, zdál se mu sen. A v tom snu tom pil jed. A pak řek´: „Tys sněd´ ten kolt, a tak jsem pil jed. I tak už jsem jen děd.” Pak šel dál a i před ním byl jed a on si řek´: „I Tom ho pil, tak si dám lok i já.” Teď už se Jan bál, byl to fakt zlý sen. Jak však Jan us´, dál měl kolt. Tak Jan šel a kolt už má zas´ Tom.

yl kluk a ten luk měl. Děd mu ho dal. Kluk byl rád za luk, ale fňuk fňuk, když to děd řek´: „Jsem již stár a už je pro mě svět jen nic. Já už jdu zpět tam, kde jsem byl, než jsem svět zřel.“ Dny šly dál a dál a děd již šel tam, kam chtěl. Kluk luk měl i dál, a tak mu strýc řek´, ať s ním jde na lov. A tak šel. Les byl hned tam, kde byl dům, kde měl Tom svůj plac. Kluk znal, že je Tom zlý chlap, a tak měl strach. Běh mu však šel, a tak když Tom kouk´, tak byl před ním jen a jen les. Když les už tu byl, kluk si jen tak vzdech´. „To byl ale kus!“ řek´. Chtěl spát. Když zas dál šel, tu šeď zřel. Pak si dal šíp na luk – bál se, že tu vlk je. Na to však tu z něj zní: „Krů, kkkkrrr, krů!“ „Hlad mám,“ řek´ si. A tak sněd´, co měl, a pak na lov zas se dal. Vtom vlk tu byl. Kluk kouk´ na to, jak má vlk vous, co již mu zšed. „Hmmmm,“ řek´ si kluk a smál se, jak se bál. Vlk řek´: „Co jsi?“ Tu kluk si všim´, že vlk na oku má čerň. Tak šíp z luku, co kluk měl, měl let, až na to čím vlk jed. I krk to chyt´. A tak kluk zřel, co je to být vrah. Lid ve vsi, kde svůj dům a plac měl, mu řek´: „Jsi náš kluk, co na lov šel, a vlk zřel, co luk a kluk zná.“ Kluk pak po vsi byl všem znám, vždyť to byl kluk, co prý lov znal líp než chlap! A když už kluk byl chlap a vous již měl, lid ho měl rád, a když ho vlk zřel, znal, že zřel svou smrt. A lid už se jen smál a bál se jen dnů, kdy chlap (dřív co byl kluk) stár už být měl.

Pes pro kost šel

Bum, žuch a buch strom spad´ a tchoř se ho lek´. Kůň se lek´ a pak tu byl brek. „Mňam,“ řek´ a šel dál. Byl tam led. Řek´: „Já vím!“ A pes tu hned pak chcíp´. Už ani nic. Kůň šel a chcíp´. „Pšouk,“ řek´ brek a vzdech. „Mám hlad,“ řek´ tchoř spolk´ vzdech. Když děd smet sněť, on na zem si sed´. Byl kůň a tam, kde žil, byl. Tam dub škub´ a pak vtom rup a buch na zem na tchoře spad´ a tchoř chcíp´. Píp pták, jed´ mák a pak chcíp´ on na kůl, kde byl vůl´ spad´.

dyž šel pes ven, pán mu řek´, pojď sem. Pak mu pán řek´, jdi za ten keř a tam si vlez. Tak tam pes byl a snil. Pak sem šel pán a dal mu dlaň. Tam byl keks a pes ho hned sněd´. Sněd´ ho tak hned, že mu je zle. Pak si pán vzal svůj frak a sed´ na vlak a jel tam v dál. Pak se pán lek´ a pes měl vztek. Pán se lek´ tak, že měl strach. Pak šli na bál a tam byl král. Král si sed´ na trůn a při tom se na něj smál kůň. Kůň kop´ a král spad´ na zem a pes ho hned zved´ a král se lek´. Lek´ se tak, že řval, jak drak, a pak za ním šel pán a dal mu dar. Ten dar byl páv, hned ho pán dal na pec a pak sněd´, jak by smet. Pes si dal kost a už měl dost. Teď král ví, že páv byl jed, a on pak hned si tam leh´. Pán kop, kop pro něj je hrob. Hop, hop a Král spad´ v hrob a hned byl fuč. Pes měl strach, a tak štěk´ a byl pln blech. Šli přes most pro tu kost. A je tu noc a pes měl sen, že už je den, ale nebyl to jen sen. Hned si dal med a mák a pak ho chňap´ hák. Pak pes štek´ a též zdech´.

Lord Fred

yl čas, kdy žil lord, co měl svůj hrad. Ten lord se zval Fred. Měl vždy co jíst a pít. Byl den, kdy sněd´ kost. Za rok byl zdráv. Byl i den kdy šel na lov. Vzal svůj luk a šíp, klek a zřel. Než bys řek švec, je tam laň a Fred drnk! A laň je pryč. Je tam jen dub a v něm je šíp. Fred šel za keř a klek´ si tam. Tam je skryt. „Teď to dám!“ řek´ si Fred. Vtom Fred čuch´ smrad. Je tam skunk. Fred vzal luk a fí! Skunk zchyt´ šíp a chcíp´. Ten smrad byl fuj. Fred šel zpět na svůj hrad a tam by žral. Leč tam nic a syn Bob mu řek´: „Na trh šli a tam nic.“ „Ten Jan je blb,“ řek´ si Fred. „Moh´ bych krást,“ řek´ Jan, když Fred mu o tom řek´, „leč bych byl lump.“ „Tak běž a kraď, ať je co jíst!“ křik´ Fred. Tak Jan šel krást. Krad´ a krad´, než měl sýr, chléb, kmín, med, čaj a toast. Krad´ i u žen. U nich byl i děd a ten vzal hůl a jal se prát. Jan byl mlád a měl nůž, tak vrh´ se v boj. Byl boj, až děd pad´. Děd měl zlý ksicht, když zheb´. Pak Jan šel zpět na hrad. Fred mu řek´ dík a jal se jíst. Moc rád jed´ sýr a med. Pak řek´ všem, že jde spát. Před tím, něž us´, si vzal lék na mor. Však Jan mu dal na lék jed, za to, že mu řek´, že má krást. Fred kuck, pak dých´, pak zheb´. Jen duch vzlét´ ven, výš a výš. Tam byl ráj. Fred už měl klid.

Můj děd Jan můj děd, čaj a med pil a jed´. J anChovbyl včel on měl. Když děd sněd´ med, hned pak řek´ mňam. Když děd čaj pil a ten už byl fuj, děd hned řek´ blé. Jan měl rád čaj, zvlášť když med měl. Děd stan měl a v tom stanu med a čaj jed´ rád. Děd měl hrad. Byl to Lord Jan. Děd měl luk, šíp, meč a štít, a tak boj měl rád. Když drak šel ke vsi, Jan meč a štít vzal a drak šel pryč. Když drak šel ke vsi zas, Jan šíp a luk vzal a drak šel pryč zas. A když drak šel ke vsi dnes, Lord Jan ho bil až drak ten ztuh´. Když však Jan šel spát, Lord Dan ho bil. „Au, Au!“ řval děd Jan. A tak chcíp´ můj děd Jan.

Chtěl kůň ten chřtán i pes chtěl v něm už být. Co ten děd chtěl? Chtěl ne ten chřtán, a když drak ne a ne ho dát, tak být sám, jen klid mít, což jen hrob, tak pes řek´, že chce se rvát. zde moh´ mít. Svou smrt chtěl zřít a hrob Kůň si chtěl chřtán vzít, ale pes už mít. Tak vzal bič a hůl, a tak se zbil až chtěl se rvát a krást. Však vnuk měl plán. zheb´. Už měl svůj hrob a měl svůj klid a Vzal hůl a bič a hnal ty tři pryč. jen sám zde moh´ být. Až v hrobě moh´ si Vnuk měl klid, však pak byl bit, žít. Teď už smí jen snít, a tak to má být. když děd tu byl. „Proč hnals je pryč?“ Však co vnuk a kůň, co drak a pes? děd též vzal bič a hůl a hnal ho pryč. Děd Ti jen šli dál, zde lom, zde les, zde vrak a chtěl klid jak sůl, a když měl hůl a bič měl hrad, až pak drak řek´: „Už mám hlad a klid. Když v tu je zde křik. „Ten, kdo to vztek!“ Drak psa sněd´, vnuk byl zbit až křik, tak vzal mi klid,“ řek´ si děd. zheb´ a kůň zdrh´. Mnich mu dal lék a pán byl rád. Jel zas zpět. Tam byl drak. Pán měl strach, ale drak měl sám z něj strach. Byl s ním rád a pak šli dál. Za rok byl pán zdráv od všech zlob. Drak však ne. Tak pán jel pro lék. Drak byl pak moc rád.

Když tu zřel psa, s nímž si hrál, když kdys byl mlád on i pes, jenž mu teď řek´: „Je tu vlk, jenž chce pít tvou krev, běž pryč.“ Leč Jan stál, hrd na svůj rod a zřel, jak vlk jde a řve: „Dám ti to, cos chtěl. Dám ti smrt i hrob.“ A jak to řek, tak se vznes a pad´ na něj. Jan dál křik: „Tak pojď, když se chceš prát.“ Když v tom se vlk zved´ a zřel, že tu je dál ten pes. Vlk vyl a pes mu zkous´ chřtán. Vlk pad´, Jan se zved´ a šel ke psu. Řek mu: „Moh´ jsem se prát i bez psa. Jsem snad kluk?“ Leč pes mu zas řek´: „Je tu lev, jenž též by se chtěl prát. Běž, už jsem stár a sláb. I ty jsi už stár a sláb jak já, leč lev je mlád a pln sil.“ Jan se jen smál a hrd vzkřik´ vstříc lvu: „Tak pojď, ty zlý lve, zři, zde vlk…“ Leč lev zle vzkřik´: „Já ti dám na mě řvát, já jsem král a ty jsi sám.“ Jan ztuh´ a s ním i pes. Lev však řval dál: „Sic jsi hrd, sám jsi sláb.“ A na to se lev zved´ a kous´ ho. Jan zbled´ a na zem se svez´. Jak řek´ lev, ač byl hrd, byl sám a sláb. Pes to zřel a řek´ lvu: „Měl jsem ho rád, když byl mlád a ne hrd. To snad jen prach z hvězd ho sklál, ač byl jen tvor a ne Bůh, jak si on přál a jak on chtěl. A přál jsem si, by on už žil líp.“ Lev však řek´: „Pes, a hrd jak Jan? To ne. Jak to?“

Kde je má smrt?

D

nes jsem měl sen. Ten sen byl zlý. Měl jsem v něm žít jen tři dny. Co když by se ten zlý sen stal? Co můj syn, má choť a můj děd? Já chci tu být i dál pro ně. Co když už mám hrob? Co když mám jen dva dny a ne tři? Co když ráj už mě chce teď? Tak já pek´ dort, by děd ho sněd´. Syn též. I choť. Ráj je fajn. Tak jsem šel a chtěl jsem už tam. Už byl čas. Sed´ jsem si před hrob. Ale zas nic. Kde je má smrt? No a pak jsem vzhléd´ a tam šel můj syn a děd. I choť. Děd řek´: „Proč tu jsi?“ A já na to: „Já jdu si pro ráj, měl jsem žít už jen tři dny.“ Pak syn řek´: „Cos to řek´?“ No a já mu to řek´, to o tom snu. „Ten sen se stát moh´,“ řek´ syn. A tak jsem tam byl. Den a nic. Zas den a nic. Tak jsem to vzdal a šel si dát ten dort.

Kůň a pes

Ž

il byl kůň. Žil se psem. Kůň měl rád psa a pes zas jej. Šli v les. Šli den, když v tu je noc. Kůň má strach, pes však ne. Pes si leh´. „Tak pojď spát,“ řek´ pes. „Tak fajn,“ řek´ kůň. Pes už spí, kůň však ne. Tu noc ne a ne spát. Když už spí, má sen. Je sám a je tam les. Jde dál, jen tak, když tu však křik. Zřel stín. Ten se vznes a plul čím dál tím blíž. Pak se snes zpět na zem a řek´: „Já jsem tvá smrt a jdu si pro tě.“ Hlas měl jak skřek. Kůň se tak lek´, že vstal. Byl zpět u psa. Ten měl klid a spal. Kůň měl strach a bál se spát dál. Tak vstal a šel v les. Šel kus a zřel tůň. Klek´ si a pil a pil a pil. Když byl pln, tak si leh´ a už spí. Teď vstal pes. Hleď, že je sám. „Haf! Co to je? Kde je kůň? To ne!! Haf, haf, haf!“ Pozor však! Zřel pár stop: „Jsem si jist, že to byl kůň!“ Tak šel dál a dál, dle stop, už je tu les. A teď zří tůň. A u ní je kůň! „Ou jé! Haf, haf! Tu je kůň!” Pes je rád. Leh´ si u něj a spal dál.

A pes mu řek´: „Můj děd, když byl stár, tak mi řek: Ne, proč být moc hrd, když jsi jen pes a pes je přec sláb. Jen král má být vždy pln sil, a tak je král lev!“ Lev byl rád a šel pryč. Však pak pes si řek´: „Jak se ten blb, vrah lev nes´. Já řek´ mu to, co on chtěl, a já jsem živ. Děd mi však též řek´, že lev je sic hrd a zdráv, však pán má zbraň a ta, když řve, tak je lev nic. Však i pán je sláb a je tu mor a tak. A tak, nad tím vším je jen a jen Bůh a pes.“ A pes šel, ač hrd jen tam, kde je duch. Lev je sláb, pán je bled, však Bůh je fit a s ním i pes. Tak je pes král. A jak to je dál? Pes si však vzdech´: „Jen ať tu je můj Jan. Mám ho tak rád.“ A pes šel tam, kde byl Jan. Leč Jan už byl jen kost již jed´ sup. I tu pes vyl a lkal. Zbled´ jak sloup, až ho žal sklál. On si byl jist, že Jan je jen tak tak živ. A byl. Leč když ho zřel sup, tak ho sněd´. A i tak by pes moh´ být živ a být jak děd. Však tam, kde měl být duch, tam měl pes jen cit a ten ho, jak zbraň sklál, i když byl král. Tak už je jen Bůh a Zmar. Zmar dal všem hrob i žal. A tak je lev i pes i Jan nic. A tak je Zmar král. Však jen pro náš svět, kde je tma.

Chlap, děd, vnuk, pes a hrob Chlap a psi své psy. Oni jsou nej. Tak J ádnesmámse rád psy jdu ven. Ale ne! Most už ne! Most spad´. Most je pryč. Tak jdu pryč. Přes les. Les je nej. Ale ne! Psi šli pryč! To ne. Psi jsou nej. Ale teď jsou pryč. Jdu na zem. Ta je fajn. Spím. Bum! Strom spad´. Na mě. Já jsem snad chcíp´. Ale ne! Je tam Bůh. On je fajn. Ale ne! Byl to jen sen! Můj svět je fuj. Mám ale své psy. Sním je. Mňam. Moc a moc, ale fuj! Kost! Hnus! Fuj! Pliv! Kost jde ven. Uf! Tak nic. Pán má hlad. Bum! Strom spad´ na dům. Pán au. Pán zas chcíp´.

Švagr co krad‘

B

yl jsem tam, když mu vzal psa. Byl tam on, pes, já a ten, co mu vzal psa. On tam tak šel přes smrk, co spad´, a pak, když šel dál, psa mu vzal. Utek´, ale já ho znal. Byl to náš švagr. Tak já jsem hned to šel říct. Po něm už ale nic. Ten, co mu vzal psa, vzal zbraň a pak už on jen pad´. Ten pes pak šel sám, než ho pán vzal. No, pak já šel jsem k nám a pán se psem zas k nim. A jak jsem jed´, tak jsem čet´, že ten chlap, ten náš švagr, co krad´, že měl psa, ale ne plat, ale ten pes pad´, tak ten chlap chtěl psa, tak ho vzal, a tak krad´. Měl říct, že chce psa, já bych mu ho dal, neb je to můj švagr, jen aby byl rád, ne tak krad´ a byl by živ. Ať je mu tam líp, když už pad´ tak mlád. „Tak čau, ať jsi tam rád.“

il byl pán a ten byl sám. Měl jen psa. Pán šel ven a řek´: „Pojď sem!“ A tak šel pes ven. Pes a pán šli přes les do vsi, kde byl kůň. Pes, pán i kůň šli dál. Byl mráz, a tak si pán vzal šál a ten pěkně hřál. Šli a šli dál až sem k nám. Je tu tma, a tak jdou spát. Už je den a pes, pán a kůň jdou dál. Tu před psem stál vlk, pes se lek´ a bál, a proto štěk´ – haf, haf. Než pán mrk´, pes byl fuč. Pán a kůň šli dál za psem. Den je pryč, ale pes dál nic. Pán a kůň šli, až pán jej tam hned zřel: „Můj pes!“ Pes štěk – haf, haf. A hle je tam syn. Pán je rád. Syn je rád. A tak pes, pán, kůň i syn jdou zpět. Jdou přes ves. Jdou přes les. Až tam kde má pán dům.

Zpět je sob

U

vrat stál můj sok, jenž byl kos. Můj bok sněd´ můj pes, jenž jed´ med. Můj sok, ten kos moh´ mít bok, ale ten můj pes, jenž sněd´ koks, mu ho sněd´. Žil byl i los, jenž měl bok, ale můj pes sněd´ led, po němž sněd´ i bok. Byl zde i sob, jenž měl bok, ale sob utek´ do luk, a můj pes utek´ za ním. Les je u vsi též. Sob před ním utek´, tak můj pes zheb´. Jed je to, na to zheb´. Tak můj pes šel už v zem. Sob je už zpět z těch luk a mě už dorost´ bok.

Je dnes živ Jan?

yl den a ten den byl dnes. V ten den Jan, jež spal sto let, vstal a pěl: „Á, toť jest svět, svět, ten já znám ze snů jen, co teď? Kam dát se mám? Můj syn je pryč, též pryč jsou můj tchán, zeť i děd. Vít, ten švec, jenž mě znal. Vlad, ten, jenž krev mi sál. Co to tam jest? Plech, jenž sám se hne? A lid zde jest, pryč jdou. Á, má dlaň mi žhne. Ten svět, ne pro mne vhod. Hlad mám a bděl jsem moc.“ V té z chvil Jan se lek´, on není živ! Kost, kost, on je jen kost! Vtom vběh´ sem pes, Jan jest kost a pes kost rád. Pes ho hryz´ za dlaň a tu, pes s ní jest pryč. Jan leh´ na zem a řek: „Já jsem chcíp´, pes dlaň mi vzal…“ Zív´ a zas spal dál. Jan ne živ již sto let.

B

yl žil pes, co rád jed´ dort. Tak ten pes jen tak sám šel přes most a držel kost a viz, před ním byl dort! Pes byl rád a celý se tím chvěl, tak ten pes hned dort chňap´ a půl něj sněd´. Ale dort byl jen jed a pro psa šla smrt, a pes chcíp´. Kus od psa šel pán a hleď, u něj je pes. Psů se pán bál, a tak se lek´, ale ten pes už chcíp´, pán tak šel pryč. Pak byl před nim dort a pán si kus vzal a tak si ho dal. Ale jak už víš, tak pán zheb´ též. Pak šel muž, co dort pek´, a moc se lek´, když před nim pes i muž zheb´. Muž se bál, že mu kat kus přes krk pryč dá. Pak šel pan král a muž šel pryč, ale král si ho všim´, a tak ho na vždy do tmy ve svou věž dal.

Kdo se psa bál

P

es, pak myš a kos šli dnes přes les a ves na pouť. Lev, vlk a skunk sní, že jim sní mls. Pes na lva štěk´ a lev se lek´ a skok a byl pryč. Vlk si pak chtěl vzít špek, pes na něj haf, haf a hop a vlk byl fuč. Skunk jim chtěl vzít kost, ze psa se však hned stal zlý pes, a bum, prásk a skunk byl pryč. Když to kos zřel, tak měl šok a pán o myš se moc bál. Když šli zpět přes ves a les, tak se pes dál smál, že se ho lev bál a vlk a skunk též. Pak už pes jen štěk´ – haf, haf, haf.

Tim a Sam

Chlap a pes

M

už hnal psa přes ves. „Pse běž!“ řval děd, když psa zřel. Pes, jenž hnán byl, ze vsi prch´. Les zřel před ním. Hup a byl tam. Strach ho hnal dál skrz les do luk. „Baf!“ baf´ na něj chlap, jenž znal ho ze vsi. Pes se lek´ a hnal se dál. Ves zřel před ním. Stál a zřel ji dál a dál. Chňap! Chlap z luk ho chyt. Vzal ho dom a zřel ho. Pes rád byl, že chlap ho rád má. Chlap měl na chov pár krav: „Bů!“ Těch pár krav, na psa dup´ a pes chcíp´. Psa chlap hned sněd´, vždyť hlad měl. Těch pár krav sněd´ též, hlad měl dál. Hnal se do vsi, kde byl též vlk, jenž spí. „Au!“ kňuk´ vlk, když žral ho chlap. Ach tak zlý to byl chlap. Sněd´ ho též a hlad měl dál. Hlad dál měl, tak do luk šel. Leč tam nic. Hlad hnal ho dál do vsi, kde pes dřív žil. Ve vsi hmyz jen byl. Polk´, hmyz hned spolk´. Hlad však měl dál. Mrak snes´ se a noc je tu zas. Chlap fuč byl. A zřen už je jen, když noc je nad vsí.

yl kluk Tim a ten měl psa. Pes byl Sam a byl mu rok. A Tim mu řek´: „Pojď ven!“ a Sam, že ne, a hned si leh. Však Tim řek´: „Pojď!“. Sam zřel les, a tak do něj zdrh´. Tim hned za ním. A pes se lek´, byl tam had a ten chňap! Tim vzal kuš, hop a skok a byl tam. Pic, pic, pic a had na zem spad´ a chcíp´. Tim řek´: „Uf,“ a Sam štěk´. Tim mu dal špek. Šli dál a Tim zřel strom a na něm med. Tim řek: „Jů, med! Já mám ale hlad.“ A Sam řek´: „Tak si ho hlaď!“ Už je noc a je mráz. Zřel je děd, jenž měl hůl a dal jim chléb a kost. Chléb byl fajn, a tak ho Tim zhlt´. Sam si dal kost a měl dost. Děd byl rád, že mohl dát a pak šel spát. Noc je pryč a už je den. Tim a Sam šli dát dát kup pro lux, nůž, sýr a krém. Krém však byl jen. Pak šli dom přes les, ves, háj, mez a most. Byl to sen či fajn den? Kdo, ví? To je vše, co říct se dá.

T

u byl pes Brok a byl to pán Tom. Brok raf a Tom pak hop. Tom se lek´, když pes Brok štěk´. Brok má hlad. Tom, co si řek´, to ví jen on. Brok zas štěk´ a též i hryz´! Tom se lek´, chyt´ ho za krk a řek´ jdi! A Brok šel, i měl hlad. Tom ne, ten jen klel a pak řek´: „Ach Brok šel! To ne!“ A tu se zas lek´, našel skrýš a v ní byla myš. Ta ho hryzla. Jau! Brok to byl přec! To se zas Tom lek´, že ho hryz. Tom měl hněv a už jen ho chyt a řek´: „Slyš! Já jdu!“ A Tom šel, Brok je sám. Tak si štěk´ a leh´.

Pes a had

B

yl pes. Ten pes spal. Vždy když spal, tak měl sen. V tom snu byl had. Had kous´ psa a pes pad´. Had kous´ psa zas, ten však vstal a v boj se dal. Had se lek´ a pes ho dráp´. Pes jde přes plot pryč. Hned je tu kůň a se psem jde dál, tak jak si kůň i pes přál. A tak jdou dál, až před dům psa. Pes ten si leh´ a hned zas spal a sen měl dál, však moc se v tom snu bál. Po snech byl den a pes šel ven. Však had je zřen, je tu zas sen! Pes mu chce říct, ať jde pryč, však bouch´ se o tyč. Had se smál, však kůň se vzpjal. A tak had chcíp´ a pes smí zas jít spát a dál dát si ten svůj sen zdát.

Konečný podzim Padající listy, blížící se k zemi, stejná zkáza čeká lidi, spříznění s první matkou, Přírodou. Klesající teplota, skoro nula, blížící se smrti, i když věk vždy začíná, stejným číslem. Usínající zvířata, spánek celou zimu, usnout v zimě, nikdy se už neprobudí, Člověk. Mrazící pokrývka, barvící paletu, jedna barva zůstává, bílá v jeden moment, přebývá. VLADIMÍR KULIŠ
