Extra Edition Dear colleagues, As you might know, we have three children. Our eldest son Tom has a very nice girlfriend (by the way, so does Stefan, his twin brother). Her name is Liesbeth. Liesbeth’s family is struck by a serious, hereditary brain disease called ADCA / SCA. Both her mother and sister have it – Liesbeth doesn’t know whether or not she has ADCA as well, she hasn’t taken any tests. The disease affects the brain and as a result, a degeneration of muscles and functions progressively takes place. The disease can be fatal. So far there was no medicine but now there is hope - and currently a medicine is being developed. For this, money is needed. Here you can see the effects of ADCA on a patient and her family (in Dutch): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ae19AvVdAh0 The sister of the lady in the clip is one of the people, who are very active in raising money to bring the needed amount of 150.000 euro together. She is involved in importing and selling wine. She has selected a few wines and the entire margin will be donated to the project. These are wines that are on the menu of La Rive, the 1*Michelinstar restaurant of the Amstelhotel. I would like to contribute to this fund-raising activity by proposing this initiative to you. Please participate by donating or by doing yourself the favour of buying an excellent wine for a low price – a real win-win. Christmas is approaching rapidly and maybe you are planning to have a nice dinner and buy some special wines. Now is the time to do so, while making a contribution that might change the lives of these patients – or, let’s face it, their children. For more information about the disease and the proposed research and development please check: www.hersenziekte-sca1.nl

Jeannette has asked me to organise the selling, distribution, payments, administration, transportation etc by myself. It is for this reason, that she also suggested to offer the wine during a limited time so that I have time to check the payments, do the admin, drive to Balkbrug and collect the boxes, distribute the wine amongst the buyers etc etc. Please join me in an effort to raise money to combat ADCA / SCA. You can do so by: 1. Donating money 2. Buying excellent wine that is offered to you below the normal sales price. The perfect gift for Christmas! 3. Encourage your colleagues and friends to buy wine or to donate. 4. Helping me in the organisation – maybe you have connections in Balkbrug and can take over the transportation, for example. Or maybe you can help me with the admin. Any help is welcome. Brenda has offered to organise a wine tasting event on Tuesday afternoon 8 December – provided that the wine room is available. You can come to the wine room that afternoon, taste and order! The exact times will be communicated later this week. You can order your wine as from today (Monday 30 November) onwards, until Wednesday 9 december 2015. You will receive your wine on 14, 15 or 16 December 2015. It is preferred that you buy by the box; maybe you can order the wine with your room mates or other colleagues if you prefer to buy less than a box of 6 bottles, which is perfectly understandable. Every penny counts and I would be very happy to make a substantial donation. I am using a special account to collect the money before I pass it on to Jeannette Gerritsen and her business partner Klaas Russcher. (We don’t use it for any other financial activities – be assured. You are not bolstering the coffers (de kas spekken) of the Keizers!) Please donate your money or pay your order via: NL21INGB0003796610 Hr A.W. Keizer en / of Mevr. J.L.C. Keizer-Remmers. Either mention: “Donation SCA” or “Wine + type + number of bottles” (for example: 6 bottles Cuvee Niels, 6 bottles Cuvee Antoine) You can send me an email with your order. You can choose from three wines:
Cuvee Niels 2013 from chateau Domaine de Marotte: 7,50 per bottle; 45 per box of 6 (red) Cuvée Antoine Vieille Vigne rouge 2010: 10,99 per bottle; 65 per box of 6 (red – very special) Chardonnay Vermentino Grenache Blanc 2014 Paul Mas: 7,50 per bottle or 45 per box of 6 (white)

A box with 2 bottles of each wine costs 52 Euros. Jeannette tries to involve partners and sponsors that donate the bottles, the corks or the transportation. This way, she can offer the wine for a price below the sales price while approximately 2,50 per bottle can be donated to the fund raising project. Please join me in this effort – as this is a horrible disease that destroys the life of young people; and I have seen how Anne, Liesbeth’s sister can only accept that every year, every month her health deteriorates. Walking, using her arms and hands, even swallowing food…. It becomes more and more difficult and she has just had to accept a wheel chair. This is tough for a young woman who used to have a vivid social life, a career, great aspirations and who was always full of energy. All of that is gone now. At least she has kept her sense of humour :). And I know it is also very tough for her mother, who is suffering from ADCA and was the carrier of this ‘defect’ - in fact, the whole family has this disease. Just like other families in the Netherlands. ADCA is quite rare – but disastrous for those who suffer from it. Let’s all help. Thank you. Anne Keizer
