Javorový vrch (424 – 968 m altitude)

This ski area is located in the Těšín Beskydy mountain range not far from the town of Třinec. It is situated on the upper part of the Javorový vrch hill and can be reached by a chair lift which is in operation from 8 am to 4 pm daily. Skiers can take the chair lift and the connecting tow-rope up to the summit of the hill and from there enjoy a several kilometre long run back to the lower station of the chair-lift. This is a genuine treat for even the demanding type of skier. The run is unfortunately not always completely snow-covered and is consequently only negotiable under good snow conditions Cross-country skiers will find Javorový vrch an excellent starting point to and destination from the undulating hill ridges of Ostrý, Slavíč, Kamenitý, Bystrý, Velký Lipový, Morávka, Řeka and Horní Lomná. Javorový vrch is a known centre for paragliding with even possibilities for flying tandem. Within the ski area is a hiking and skiing chalet with not only excellent conditions for holidaymaking or school courses with accommodation facilities of up to 90 beds, but also a cosy restaurant with excellent cuisine.

Mosty (550 – 700 m altitude) u Jablunkova

The ski area Mosty u Jablunkova is located in the picturesque setting of the Silesian Beskydy Mountains at the foot of the hill Gruň at a height of 550 up to 700 metres above sea-level. The ski area can be reached by car as well as by bus or train. As of the year 2004, the newly reconstructed ski area has available four completely snow-covered, artificially lit and maintained downhill ski runs covering a drop of 150 metres. Cross-country skiers have the possibility to set off on lovely trails along the ridges of the Beskydy Mountains or make use of a 1.5 km long machine maintained, lit and snow-covered circular trail. Snowboarding fans can enjoy themselves at the newly constructed snow park. Additional attractions designed for all age categories include the vehicle mountain trail and the bungee trampolines which are open throughout the year. While the tow-lifts are running, visitors can refresh themselves at the snack bar at the lower station of the lifts or on weekends, bank holidays or school holidays at the snack bar, with a usual selection of items, at the ski lodge in the middle of the downhill trail. There are three restaurants approximately 500 metres from the lower station of the lifts, in the town proper - U Taufrů motor lodge, Centrum restaurant and the Beskyd Hotel.

Dolní Lomná - Severka (650 – 950 m altitude)

Severka ski area is located in the Těšín Beskydy Mountains. The area is primarily accessible by car. A ski and snowboarding school and ski and snowboard rental SUN SKI & BOARD SCHOOL have their offices within the ski area. The entire area is maintained by a Kässbohrer 200 D V snow vehicle with a snowplough, a Lavina 1000 vehicle and 2 snow scooters. Severka Chalet is an excellent starting point for cross-country ridge trips in the direction of the vicinities of Visalaje or Javoroý vrch. In the same fashion as with the ski area, the local cross-country trails are suitable for all age and levels of cross-country skiers. Refreshments are available at the snack bar (lower station of the lifts) - the usual selection, outdoor snack bar. Severka tourism chalet at the upper station of the Tatrapoma lift has available an accommodation capacity of 74 beds overall in rooms containing from 2 - 6 beds. The restaurant (seating capacity for 80 people) provides dining for even the most demanding clientele throughout the day. The chalet also contains an indoor swimming pool with dimensions of (2.4 x 3.6 m) with swimming against the current available, a sauna, and an outdoor swimming pool in the summer months with dimensions of a diameter of 7 metres and 1.2 metres deep. Thanks to its location Severka chalet is a popular centre for ski school courses.

Horní Lomná - Přelač (700 – 850 m altitude)

The ski area is situated in the Těšín part of the Beskydy Mountains in the romantic valley of Horní Lomná - Přelač. The area is run by SKI KLUB Karviná. The ski runs are situated on the northeast slope at an altitude from 700 up to 850 metres above sea level. The area is equipped with three ski lifts of the Tatrapoma type of a length of 670 metres, 400 metres and a children's towrope for beginners of a length of 150 metres. The downhill runs are of a length of from 670 to 800 metres. The ski season opens depending on the snow conditions. The ski area is closed on the 24th and 25th of December. The lifts operate daily from 9 am to 3:30 pm (to 4 pm from the 1st of February). The ski runs are maintained by machine daily. The ski area also has refreshment and seating in the pleasant setting of the snack bar and warming-up room for skiers. The width of the ski slope (approximately 250 - 300 metres) and its variety makes it ideal for skiers from beginners to racers. The selection of lifts makes it suitable for teaching children in ski school courses. The ski area is easily accessible by both car and bus. This year a car park directly next to the lifts was opened providing maximum comfort - directly from your car onto your skies. Unfortunately only on workdays at this time. A number of accommodation facilities are located in the vicinity (Hotel Salajka, Pension Salajka, Pension U Studánky, the chalets Sokolka and Lačnov, RS Doubrava, Relax U Zajonca). Difficulty of run

Řeka

Řeka ski area has always been a popular ski centre in the Beskydy Mountains. All of the tow-lifts are located in the Moravian Silesian Beskdy Mountains, near the town of Třinec, at the end of the municipality of Řeka. The large lift is 1,170 metres long. The downhill run begins on a ridge at an altitude of 930 metres above sea level and drops by 390 metres to the lower station of the lift. This is one of the few lifts in the Beskydy Mountains which leads from a valley (road, car park) all the way up to a ridge (950 metres above sea level) and can thus be used by cross-country skiers as well. From the upper station, visitors are offered lovely views of the surrounding Těšín and Polish Beskydy Mountains. The average inclination of the downhill run actually exceeds 30° which ranks it amongst the more demanding slopes. A large car park is located 50 metres distant from the lower station. The ski area also has available warm and cold food and outdoor and indoor seating at the fireplace. The small lift is 380 metres long. The run is extremely wide along its entire length and flat as a table. It has a gentle inclination and is therefore ideal for family skiing with children and fans of carving and funcarving. The entire run is artificially lit and offers night skiing (Monday - Friday). There is a beautiful view of the valley in the direction of the Těšín micro-region from the small lift. There is also a 60 metre long children's towrope on the left-hand side of the run. All of the runs are on the northern slope, thereby guaranteeing quality snow conditions throughout the entire winter ski season. Partial artificial snow has also been prepared for the upcoming 2004-2005 season. Both runs are regularly maintained by a modern PistenBully 260D ratrac with a snowplough. Difficulty of run

Morávka – Sviňorky (650 m altitude)

Sviňorky ski area is located in the Morávky River valley, approximately 25 kilometres from the town of Frýdek-Místek, in the direction of the village of Morávka. The ski area is easily accessible by car. The car park is approximately 300 metres distant from the lifts with a so-called ‘horse-bus’, a sled or barouche, pulled by a pair of horses serving to transport visitors to the lower station of the lifts. The ski area is a genuine paradise for family skiing with something to please downhill skiers of all different ages. Snowboarding fans have at their disposal the well-equipped snow park with a number of obstacles and its own lift. The technical equipment of the area is not limited to the already-mentioned lifts, but also includes essential items such as a snow gun, compressors and a freezing tower for creating artificial snow, guaranteeing a long and quality ski season. The modern check-in system and quality snowplough for maintaining the slopes are only icing on this skiing cake. Sviňorky also has a great deal to offer for cross-country skiers with a number of ski trails with lovely views in the direction of the mountains Lysá hora as well as Javorový vrch. For those skiers who have a preference for a training approach, a 14 kilometre long maintained cross-country track is available. Accommodation and dining possibilities are available within the ski area itself or in the nearby vicinity. Amongst the most well known is Pension Jízdárna. Difficulty of run

The ski area Pustevny which can be reached from the direction of the town of Frenštát pod Radhoštěm, is at the end of the village of Trojanovice, behind the hotel Ráztoka. A chair lift takes one up to the ski area with the additional possibility of travelling to it from the southeast side, from the Vsetín Bečva River valley. Both sides have parking facilities near by as well as bus stops. The ski area provides its visitors with an abundance of possibilities on various runs of different lengths and levels of difficulty. Not only downhill skiers, but also cross-country fans will find Pustevny ski area an ideal location with its range of maintained cross-country trails as well as popular mountain ridge paths. Both accommodation and dining facilities on a high level are located within Pustevny itself as well as in the nearby villages of Trojanovice or Prostřední Bečva. Difficulty of run

Skiing at Lysá hora Mountain can only be enjoyed after a demanding walk from the bus Krásná–Papežov where one can also park one’s vehicle. From there one must go on foot to the lower station of the lift. Those who would prefer to save their strength have another option, however. For a fee a tracked vehicle will provide transport up to the summit. Whichever option one chooses and if the weather is pleasant, the skiing atmosphere here is truly one of a kind in the Beskydy Mountains. Lysá hora is one of the most popular ascents for cross-country skiers and is the heart of all the main cross-country trails which criss-cross the area. During clear weather one is provided with a magnificent view of all of the MoravianSilesian Beskydy Mountains as well as the Slovak mountain ranges of the Small and Large Fatra and Roháče Mountains. A number of fast-food possibilities are available in all of the areas and even directly on the runs. There is a whole range of accommodation facilities, from small private recreational cottages to hotel complexes.

Accessibility of the area by car, by bus – the ski area within the territory of the municipality of Malenovice is located 5 kilometres east of Frýdlant nad Ostravicí. Car parks and bus stops are located not far from the lower stations of the lifts. This ski area, located on the summit of the highest mountain in the Beskydy, Lysá hora with an altitude of 1,323 metres above sea level, can be reached on foot. Parking is available at the bus ‘Krásná-Papežov’ from where one must walk on foot to the lower station of the lift. Also possible is a ride on a tracked vehicle for a fee (must be ordered ahead of time).

Bílá (530–774 m altitude)

Bílá ski area in the Beskydy Mountains is located in the Bílá Ostravice River valley on the state motorway of the 2nd class which links up with the town of Frýdek–Místek on the border with Slovakia at Bumbálka. A large car park is situated right next to the motorway with a capacity for around 300 vehicles. Also here are both local bus and coach stops. A modern ski area is spread out over both sides of the valley the character of which will satisfy each down-hill skiing and snowboarding aficionado as well as those who are only complete beginners. Cross-country ski fans can set out on a popular ridge trail in the direction of Bumbálka and continue to the ski areas on Soláň or in the opposite direction with its lovely winter nature in the vicinity of the ski areas on Grúň and others. There are snack bars directly next to the lifts. Accommodation and dining facilities are plentiful at the ski area from hotels to pensions to tourist chalets.

Visalaje ski resort is made up of four smaller ski areas and is located approximately 25 kilometres from the town of FrýdekMístek in the direction of Dobrá, Raškovice, Visalaje. The individual ski areas differ not only in terms of their equipment but also primarily in being designed for a specific group of skiers. There is a centre for families with small children, as well as for fans of fast downhill skiing and snowboarding as well as aficionados of freeride style. Most of the areas in the resort have snack bars next to the lifts. There is also a restaurant with a wide range of dishes. Accommodation is available in hotels, pensions or in tourist chalets (for example at the hotel Visalaje, the mountain chalet Visalajka, pension Beskydy etc.).

Grúň (750 m altitude)

Grúň ski and recreational resort is located in the valley of Poledňan Stream within the territory of the village of Grúň–Staré Hamry, approximately 30 km from the town of Frýdek–Místek. The ski area is accessible by car from the directions of Frýdek–Místek – Frýdlant nad Ostravicí (road no. 484) or from the town of Rožnov pod Radhoštěm – Bumbálka (road no. 18 and 485). Not far from the ski area is a bus stop. Downhill skiers will find a well-maintained ski area here with four runs, two of which are officially approved for ski racing in alpine disciplines and in snowboarding. Cross-country skiers can make use of the traditional excursion trail in the direction of Kozlena with magnificent views of the entire panorama of the eastern valley and the mountain Lysá hora. From the summit of ‘Těšiňočka‘ one can admire the views of Visalaje, Bílý Kříž or even as far as the Mala Fatra and Rozsutec Mountains. Visitors to the Grúň–Staré Hamry ski area will also find quality accommodation and dining facilities serving homemade cuisine (for example at the recreational chalet MSA - Armaturka).

Soláň ski area is located on the ridges of the Vsetín Hills between the villages of Prostřední Bečva and Velké Karlovice. The ski area is made up of three smaller parts – Soláňka, Soláň–sedlo and Soláň–Bzové. The car parks are several dozen metres distant from the lift stations, with the exception of Soláňky where one must walk approximately 10 minutes. The closest bus stop is Čarták–sedlo, from where one must continue on foot along the ridges (15 min). Families with children as well as more advanced skiers will all find something to suit their tastes. Soláň is located on a well-known cross-country skiing trail Vsacký Cáb – Bumbálka from which a range of romantic downhill runs lead down into valleys which wind through snow-covered secluded area so typical of the local landscape. Fast food as well as quality, typical Wallachian cuisine can be found within each area, as well as accommodation possibilities in one of the numerous hotels, cottages or pensions (for example Soláňka chalet, the hotels Biocel, Čarták or Luka).

Javorníky

Velké Karlovice (520 – 788 m altitude)

Razula, Kyčerka and Machůzky ski areas are located in the picturesque valley of the village of Velké Karlovice, lying between the town of Vsetín and the mountain border with Slovakia – Makov. These areas with their modern lifts afford suitable conditions for both beginners as well as more advanced skiers. Those interested in cross-country skiing can make use of dozens of kilometres of trails in the environs, some of them maintained, including popular ridge trails in the Javorníky Mountains. The owners of some of the areas also own accommodation and dining facilities located in direct proximity to the lifts, including the hotels Galik, Lanterna and Horal. Additional possibilities for accommodation and dining are in numerous facilities located throughout the vicinity of Velké Karlovice.

Horní Bečva (610 – 740 m altitude)

This ski area within the territory of the village of Horní Bečva consists of a collection of both larger and smaller areas. The entire resort is spread out on the slopes of the Vsetín Bečva River valley. All of the areas are suitable for families with children, certain (for example, U Sachovy studánky, Solisko) will also be of interest for more advanced skiers. The areas which can be found at the end of the chapter about Beskydy winter resorts are only listed - Bečvice, Mečová and Martiňák are areas comparable with those which are mentioned on this page. Unfortunately they are located somewhat more distant from the centre of Horní Bečva and consequently did not fit onto the panoramic map. Most of the areas also have snack bars or special ‘Wallachian koliby’ with offerings of local specialties. Accommodation is provided by a range of hotels, pensions, chalets and private facilities.

Javorníky - Kohútka

(913 m altitude)

Kohútka ski area is located in the Javorníky Mountains at the border of the Czech and Slovak Republics at an altitude of 913 metres above sea level. Access to the area is along the newly constructed Vranča Kohútka road. A private owner operates a ski bus here. Automobiles can also drive all the way to the actual area (usually only allowed with chains on the tires) where there is a large car park for a fee. This modernised winter resort offers excellent opportunities for both skiers interested in fast and steep runs, those who enjoy long and extended trails, ski schooling or families with children. There is a range of possible trails and the variety in levels of difficulty is extended. Kohútka ski area also lies on the well-known ridge trail through the Javorníky: Vsetín - Velký Javorník - Bumbálka. There is an abundance of dining facilities in the area, with a choice of from snack bars to restaurants. The same holds for accommodation facilities with several possibilities in various categories (for example, the chalets Kohútka, Javorka and Spartak or the hotel Portáš) with even more in the village of Nový Hrozenkov and the surroundings. Vranča – Nový Hrozenkov ski area is situated in the valley of the Vsetín Bečva River valley, 20 km from the town of Vsetín. There is sufficient parking for both personal cars and buses. The area is approximately 1 kilometre from the train stop, approximately 300 metres from the bus stop. The downhill runs are situated on the northwest slopes where both lifts are also located. The quality and maintenance of the downhill runs guarantees an unforgettable experience for both older and experienced skiers as well as for beginners or snowboarders. At the lower station are toilets as well as a snack bar inside the ski chalet. Possibilities for accommodation are nearby in either a private home in hotels or a tourist hostel.

(1 300 - 1 450 m altitude) The highest mountain in Moravia, Praděd – 1,491 metres above sea level, is situated in the protected landscape of the Jeseníky Mountains. This Moravian glacier attracts tourists due to its natural beauties and excellent snow conditions. The surrounding terrain is ideal for both downhill and cross-country skiing with the season beginning as early as the beginning of October and stretching on until the beginning of May. Beginners, advanced and even snowboarding fans will find here suitable conditions for their skiing needs. In the same fashion as with Lysá hora in the Beskydy Mountains, Praděd is the main centre for cross-country skiing for the Jeseníky Mountains. Here can be found not only ‘racing loops’ but also a range of trails, branching out in all directions, for example the ridge trail to Skřítek (lovely views), the trunk road Ovčárna – Švýcárna – Červenohorské sedlo as well as others.. Accommodation and dining are available in a whole range of facilities (chalet Ovčárna, Figura, Sabinka, Barborka, Švýcárna, Sporthotel Kurzovní, Praděd vysílač) including an ‘alpine’ snack bar and the Figura restaurant. It is best to leave one’s car here at the large guarded (24 hours) roofed car park (Hvězda) and take the shuttle bus. All of the services are for a fee. Parking spaces are limited directly at Ovčárna. Excursions take place every hour, downhill at the half hour. Most of the winter season one can return to Hvězda directly on one’s skies alongside the road.

Malá Morávka - Karlov pod Pradědem ski area is considered one of the largest recreational centres in the Jeseníky Mountains with 20 ski lifts and 24 down-hill runs of various levels of difficulty, satisfying both beginners as well as very advanced skiers. At present, negotiations are taking place regarding the creation of a uniform ticket system whereby one all-day ticket would be issued for the entire ski area. There is also here a snow park and a newly constructed cross-country area. A number of cross-country trails lead out from Karlov toward Alfrédka - Jelení hřbet or directly to the already-mentioned ski area on Praděd. Approximately 70 km of cross-country trails are regularly maintained.

Ramzová ski area lies on the northwest edge of the Hrubý Jeseník mountain range and can boast of having a rapid railway station at the highest altitude in the country, at a height 760 metres above sea level. This easy accessibility for all forms of transportation is one of the many advantages of this ski area. This ski area has been amongst the most popular since the 1970s when the first chair lift was built here. Over the last two years it has emerged as the most modern ski area in the Jeseníky Mountains. ‘Professional’ as well as complete beginners, free style aficionados as well as small children, everyone will find here excellent conditions for seeking out adrenalin or merely for pleasure. Cross-country skiers will also definitely appreciate the possibility to take the a lift up to the top of the ridge and continue on a trail in the direction of Keprník – Vřesová Studánka – Červenohorské sedlo. This ski resort made up of the areas of Branná, Ostružná and Petříkov ranks along with Ramzová amongst the most famous. All of the areas are located approximately within a distance of 4 km from Ramzová with their own parking capacities. Both Branná and Ostružná in particular have significantly modernised in recent times and have become genuine centres for family skiing in the Jeseníky Mountains. Petříkov in contrast has probably more to offer more advanced skiers seeking out the atmosphere of a small, quiet valley with all the necessary services as well. Červenohorské sedlo (862 - 1 164 m altitude)

Červenohorské sedlo ski area is one of the most well known areas for downhill skiing in Northern Moravia and a significant motorway transport point for the Hrubý Jeseník mountain range. Despite this fact snow tires with chains are a must in order to guarantee reaching the ski area. In cases when the car park at Červenohorské sedlo is full, an additional car park is available at the village of Kouty nad Desnou where a shuttle bus will transport visitors to the area. The altitude above 1,000 metres is the basis for a quality winter season up until the end of March. Sedlo is also a quality starting-point and crossroads for various ski trails. Visitors may choose from amongst the extremely gentle runs up to steep slalom slopes, designed for the most advanced skiers. Visitors will also find all the necessary services including quality dining and accommodation facilities within the area of Červenohorské sedlo. From Červenohorské sedlo, cross-country trails branch out into both sides of the Hrubý Jeseník range. A significant number of these are maintained by machines. Amongst the most popular are the trails through the southern slope of Velký Klínovec, then to Švýcárna and into the vicinity of Praděd. Difficulty of run

Up until recently the possibilities of the ski area at Dolní Morava were only known by some of the local inhabitants and a few true enthusiasts. Although the Ski Atlas of the Czech Republic recorded it having the steepest ski run in the country in the first half of the 1990s, it also stated its lack of supplementary services. Since this time a new world has emerged. Sněžník Ski Centre has changed into a modern ski area with a complete system for artificial snow, a ticketing system and accompanying services. Every enthusiast of downhill skiing will be more than satisfied here. Cross-country skiers will find more than 30 km of regularly maintained cross-country trails in the area of Králický massif which should be experienced by all who set out on cross-country skies into this unique valley. The area is easily accessible by car from the direction of Ruda nad Moravou - Hanušovice - Dolní Morava. Car parks are situated directly beneath the runs. A ski bus is in operation from December to March along the line Králíky - Horní Morava. The area contains quality accommodation and dining facilities. Amongst the establishments in close proximity to the area is hotel Prometheus with an indoor swimming pool and hotel Sněžník with a whole range of accommodation possibilities of all categories throughout the valley.
