I. Latar Belakang Era globalisasi dalam lingkup perdagangan bebas antar negara membawa dampak ganda bagi tenaga kerja Indonesia. KOROSI adalah kerusakan material logam yang dapat menyebabkan kegagalan berfungsinya komponen/peralatan, kerugian biaya, keamanan terhadap manusia dan lingkungan. Korosi adalah fenomena alami dan oleh sebab itu pasti terjadi. Untuk menanggulangi dan mencegah korosi diperlukan pengetahuan, Teknologi dan Profesional yang kompeten. SDM profesional Indonesia dibidang ini masih sangat sedikit, maka atas dasar pemikiran Para Pakar Korosi Nasional diperlukan Kompetensi bagi para tenaga ahli Indonesia yang profesional.

II. Maksud dan Tujuan, serta Tema dari Seminar, Workshop dan Konferensi a. Menciptakan media komunikasi bagi sesama profesional di bidang korosi di seluruh Indonesia. b. Mengadakan dialog antara pihak-pihak yang berkepentingan antara lain Owner, Konsultan, Perusahaan Jasa Inspeksi, Kontraktor, Supplier dan Inspector serta Pihak lain yang terkait untuk pemberdayaan SDM korosi di dalam Negeri. c. Meningkatkan Ilmu dan pengetahuan terhadap Produk dan Teknologi Penanggulangan Korosi secara berkesinambungan. d. Meningkatkan pengetahuan dalam bidang penanggulangan dan proteksi korosi secara sinergi. e. Keterlibatan lembaga sertifikasi profesi ahli korosi Nasional untuk memberi sertifikat kompetensi profesi dibidang korosi di Indonesia. f. Menghimpun pandangan-pandangan dan pengalaman-pengalaman para pakar korosi yang dapat dijadikan pembelajaran dan saling berbagi pengalaman untuk mengatasi permasalahan-permasalahan yang terjadi di lapangan. g. Miningkatkan hubungan yang sinergi antar profesi dan antar anggota komunitas Profesi. h. Menciptakan profesi-profesi muda dalam bidang QA/QC inspector salah satunya adalah coating inspector sebagai mata acara Workshop.

Preface Coating inspection plays a critical role in ensuring protection against corrosion, chemicals, UV rays and the effect of weather. This course was designed and developed by the Qualified and Competent Independent Coating Inspector, Mr. Lindung Silalahi (Giros) Coating Inspector and the team member in cooperation with The Professional Society for Certified Coating Inspector and Painting Practitioners Indonesia (CCIPP) and LIPI (Indonesian Institute of Sciences, P2 TELIMEK) to train individuals in the latest techniques and technologies to prevent and protects Iron, Steel, Concrete, Brick and Timber from the affect of corrosion such as atmospheric and Marine corrosion in severe tropical climatic conditions. The long term protection of coated structures can only be ensured by competent quality control during preparation and application. A QUALIFIED Coatings Inspector is essential during these processes. Graduates are in demand as technical service with Paint Companies, Corrosion Engineers, QA/QC Personnel in the Oil and Gas Sector, Construction Companies, Fabricators, Blasting and Painting Contractors, Consultants and Inspection Companies and many other interested parties as well as fresh graduate and Individual. Learning Objectives This course consists of two segments, Theory and Practices. This course aims to provide the participant with knowledge and skills to efficiently and effectively:

Specify protective paint/coating systems to a variety of substrates Supervise the preparation of substrates prior to painting Supervise the application of paint coatings Conduct Inspection and quality control to satisfy government and industrial standards Diagnose and rectify faults in paint coatings Preparing Budgeting in Painting projects Quality Assurance/Quality Control and Inspection Communicate effectively in written form. Recording and Reporting

Who Should Attend Those person who has a little experience in coating operation field, such as Engineering, Blaster and or Painter Supervisor, paint technicians, and any person who interested to be really professional and recognized in coating inspection work, min: 1 year for Doctor/ professor degree, 2 years in project experience for Master degree, 3-4 years for Bachelor degree, and minimum 5-7 years experience for high school diploma.

Course Structures 1.

THE BASIC PROCESS OF CORROSION AND HOW THESE RELATE TO THE RUSTING OF STEEL SURFACES AND THE CONDITIONS FOR RUSTING TO OCCUR. The basic process of corrosion. The formation of corrosion cells on steel surfaces. Anode, cathode and electrolyte. Conditions for the corrosion to occur. Effects of prevailing atmospheric conditions, humidity, temperature, exposure to sea breezes and the risk of impact and abrasion on paint types.

THE COMPOSITION AND MANUFACTURE OF PAINT.

Various processes used to manufacture paint.

THE IMPORTANT TYPES OF PAINT AND THEIR USE. Classification of paints according to drying mechanisms and/or binder type. Painting systems for any given substrate as recommended by manufactures specifications.

4.

METHODS OF SURFACE PREPARATION. Recommended methods and procedures of the following unpainted surfaces prior to painting: iron and steel (abrasive blast, power tool and hand tool cleaning), timber, galvanizes steel, aluminum, masonry (clay bricks, concrete, cement render, cement bricks, Concrete), set plaster and stainless steel. Criteria for when to repaint. Pretreatment before painting.

5.

METHODS OF PAINT APPLICATION AND THE CORRECT STORAGE OF PAINT. Assessing the type of paint required and any necessary mixing and thinning. The effects of climatic conditions on the various paint types including temperature, moisture, humidity, and consideration. Various types of paint application equipment and recommendations for selection, methods of use, care and maintenance for application by brush, roller and spray. The correct storage of paint. Batch numbers. Shelf life.

6.

COMMON COATING DEFECTS AND THEIR CAUSES AND HOW TO RECTIFY THESE. Loss of adhesion, blistering, bleeding, chalking, cracking, catering, over-spray, fish eyes, fingering, holidays, orange peel, pinholes and wrinkling.

THE USE OF TEST AND MEASUREMENT INSTRUMENTS, NDT and Destructive Test. Magnetic steel thermometer, whirling hygrometer, dew point calculator, surface profile gauge, replica tape and thickness gauge, cross hatch cutter, adhesion tester and pin hole detector.

8.

OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH AND SAFETY FACTORS RELATED TO THE USE AND APPLICATION OF PAINTS. Hazardous materials and their safe storage and use. Precautions that must be taken in order to ensure the safety of applicators. Safety rules that should be applied for working equipment.

9.

THE MAJOR ROLES AND FUNCTIONS OF A COATING INSPECTOR. The procedures for the methods of operation, inspection and site meetings. Designing and appropriate action plan and daily inspection report document those check aspects of the supply of paint materials that comply with standards and specifications for the project. Surface preparation, paint application, paint finish and final inspection of the project.

10. THE PREPARATION OF PAINTING SPECIFICATION TO MANUFACTURER’S RECOMMENDATION TO INCLUDE : Scope of work to be carried out, schedule and sequences of painting, methods of surface preparation appropriate to the substrate and coating system, specification of the paint system coat with reference to standards.

All learning material required in the course will be made available and supplied by the Organizer, they were in English and presenting in Bahasa Indonesia. To qualify for the Coating Inspector Certificate a participant must attend: Everyday theoretical examination and the practical examination at the last day of the course. Result will be expressed as pass (P) or not complete (NC). Passing is 70% or better.

Lecturer A qualified lecturer appointed by CCIPP/GIROS Team Member from the Coating expert, consultant, experienced Inspectors, qualified corrosion technician will conduct the course. Lead Trainer is LINDUNG SILALAHI – a NACE International Coating Inspector Certified 1995, ID 3841. He is Penguji Ahli Korosi Nasional issued by DEPNAKER RI SK. No. 00/041/070.364/IX/1997 Sertifikat Kompetensi Nasional ID No.# 089609. He has experienced more than 20 years especially handle Coatings and experienced as Instructor of Coating Training and Certification during 20 years started in Foreign Company scope and finally for national training program. Until present have educated more than 2000 peoples of professional in area of Coating, include Coating Inspector, Blaster and Painter, Coating Specialist, Coating Engineer and Coating consultant at Multinational Oil and Gas Company and involved with many coating projects , Coating Survey, Failure Analyses in the up-most entire industrial segments of foreign private sector, domestic private sector and company of governmental property. He is the founding father of Coating Inspector Indonesia who developed this kind of program.
