ABSTRACT Noor Viana, Tri. 2013. “Mood and Speech Function in “Toy Story 3” Movie Script by Michael Ardnt”. Skripsi. English Education Department, Teacsher Training and Education Faculty, Muria Kudus University. Advisor: (i) Agung Dwi Nurcahyo, S.S, M.Pd., (ii) Drs. H. Muh. Syafei, M.Pd. Key word: Mood, Speech Function and Toy Story 3. To understand the structure and the meaning of the language in movie script, an appropriate way is needed. Then, functional grammar is the best way to analyze the movie script. One of the materials in Functional Grammar is about interpersonal meaning or it also called “Mood”. At the same time, if the readers want to analyze the spoken language especially movie scripts, they not only use mood analysis, but also we should consider about the speech functions. From the explanation above, the writer is interested to conduct the research that analyzes the movie script of “Toy Story 3” After formulating the statement of the problems, the writer describes the objective of the research are (1) To identify mood types found in “Toy Story 3” Movie Script by Michael Arndt and (2) To identify the speech functions found in “Toy Story 3” Movie Script by Michael Arndt. The design of this research is descriptive qualitative research. It describes types of mood and types of speech function found in “Toy Story 3” Movie script by Michael Arndt. The result of this research are (1) the types of mood found in “Toy Story 3” movie script by Michael Admrt are; indicative declarative which is 642 or 61.2%, indicative interrogative polar which is 65 or 6.2%, indicative interrogative WH which is 93 or 8.9% and imperative which is 249 or 23.7%. So, the dominant mood is indicative declarative and (2) the basic types of speech functions found in in “Toy Story 3” movie script by Michael Admrt are two; initiating (offers (169 or 16.11%), command (140 or 13.35%), statement (210 or 19.16%) and question (152 or 14.49%)) and responding which are supporting (acceptance (37 or 3.53%), compliance (32 or 3.05%), acknowledgement (44 or 4.19%) and answer (97 or 9.25%)) and confronting (rejection (40 or 3.81%), refusal (37 or 3.53%), contradiction (40 or 3.81%) and disclaimer (59 or 5.63%)). So, the dominant speech function is initiation statement. The writer provides several suggestions; (1) for the students: they are suggested to enrich their knowledge in functional grammar especially in mood analysis. They can analyze mood in many kinds of texts in their environments such as articles, novels, short stories or movie script in order to develop their understanding, (2) for the lecturers: they are suggested to use mood analysis to understand the content, context and interpersonal meaning in a movie, because movies are one of the popular media in teaching-learning processes and (3) for the further researchers: They are suggested to develop this research in other field or specify this research be more detail.

ABSTRAKSI Noor Viana, Tri. 2013. "Mood dan Speech Function dalam Script Film "Toy Story 3" oleh Michael Ardnt". Skripsi. Program Studi Pendidikan Bahasa Inggris, Fakultas Keguruan dan Ilmu Pendidikan, Universitas Muria Kudus. Penasihat: (i) Agung Dwi Nurcahyo, SS, M.Pd., (ii) Drs. H. Muh. Syafei, M.Pd.
