BIG CELEBRATION FOR CHIMIVER’S 50TH ANNIVERSARY (IT) City trip Venice

Italian parquet chemical specialist Chimiver celebrated its 50th anniversary at the end of June with a three-day event. This included a company guided tour and gala dinner, the EXPO World Exhibition in Milan, and a boat trip in Venice. About 150 people, including clients from over 30 countries and Chimiver staff, enjoyed a superb event with lots of exchanges and interesting links.

In the afternoon, the group visited the picturesque old and elevated city centre of Bergamo, the Città Alta. On Friday evening, the majestic Villa Zanchi provided a wonderful location for the gala dinner, which was also attended by the founders of Chimiver, Giovanni Panseri and his wife Franca Belcari. Today, the company is led by their sons Oscar and Nevio Panseri.

For the last day, there was a visit planned to romantic Venice. On arrival, the party boarded a galleon for a boat trip with a starter and lunch in the lagoon of Venice and sailed to the islands of Murano and Burano.

The rendezvous was in Presezzo, near Bergamo, in the Alpine foothills near Milan. Visitors were welcomed on the Thursday evening in a cosy and stylish hotel and, on Friday morning, were treated to breakfast in the Chimiver offices in Pontida. After that, they visited both the production facilities and the Research & Development department and Demo Area.

On Saturday, the Chimiver guests enjoyed a trip to the World Exhibition in Milan. This event, which was expecting 20 million visitors, also had a nice job for Chimiver. The chemical specialist had been given the assignment of finishing the wooden surfaces in the pavilions of countries such as Brazil, Malaysia, Thailand, and the United States and keeping them in perfect condition.

‘Delighted’ After the event, Nevio Panseri expressed his delight with the three-day event: ‘Everything went ahead in a very nice atmosphere. Our guests enjoyed themselves and both the company leaders and our staff had the opportunity to get to know the clients better in an informal setting. Personally, I was delighted to see that there was so much interaction between the guests among themselves. They came from over 30 countries, but despite the cultural differences they established new links, which could lead to business opportunities. We’ve been busy

A few years later, they switched over to producing parquet varnishes. In 1982, they also turned their hand to the production of parquet adhesives. The company has concentrated on the parquet industry ever since the beginning and now has three company plants: one for the parquet and wooden flooring sector, one for semi-soft floor coverings, and a third one which concentrates on resin floors.

Global success The Nobu restaurants are the life’s work of chef Nobu Matsuhisa. In the 1980s, this Japanese chef left Tokyo and, after sojourns in Peru and Argentina, opened a restaurant in Beverly Hills, USA. The Nobu style of cuisine, a fusion of Japanese gastronomy with local ingredients and influences, proved an instant hit and enticed scores

of food lovers and Hollywood stars. That’s where Nobu also met Robert De Niro and, together with restaurant manager Drew Nieporent, also opened a successful branch in New York. That was the start of a global chain, which now takes in over thirty businesses in four continents (Moscow, Beijing, Cape Town, Melbourne, Manila, London, Monte Carlo, and such like). All restaurants are given an exclusive interior so that the corporate identity of the Nobu restaurants is supplemented with local elements, just as it is in the kitchen.

Villa in Mexican colonial style Nobu Polanco restaurant is located in ‘Casa Calderón’, a magnificent villa with a monumental stairway entrance in Mexican colonial style and built in 1953. The design was entrusted to the Mexican firm of architects Sordo Madaleno Arquitectos. They endeavoured

to combine the elements of water, earth, and air in the restaurant interior. They did so with lots of respect for the original decorations of Casa Calderón, such as the ceiling frames and the stone arch. Dark and neutral colours dominate in the choice of the interior materials, and, with the help of a well considered light plan, the designers highlight the presence of woodcarving and the special furniture. For the rest, natural elements with strong characters stand out, namely dark marble, metal, and ebony wood.

Ebony wood and black marble Obviously, our attention is drawn to the ebony wood used for the floor and walls. On the floor they have fitted narrow multi-layer ebony wood planks in a herringbone pattern. The wooden planks have been glued onto a concrete subfloor fitted with a chemical moisture barrier. The ebony wood on the walls has been glued to the walls in strips.

Rubio Monocoat Mexico For the finish they called upon Rubio Monocoat via the branch in Mexico. Eugenio Fernández Cueto is the manager of Rubio Monocoat Mexico and started representing Rubio Monocoat in his country eight years ago. Because of the unique technology of molecular binding, it’s sufficient to apply one coat. We sell products each year to cover over 200,000m². Our clients are mainly parquet manufacturers, producers of wooden outdoor floors, and also furniture makers. Maintenance products for floors and furniture are also selling well.’

Timeless beauty with no scratches For this project Mr Fernández Cueto was soon able to persuade the project managers. He explains: ‘They wanted a high-quality finish, which would bring out the natural beauty of the ebony wood to the full and because the choice for oil means that there are no scratches in the coat of varnish. Finally, the choice fell to the Rubio Monocoat Exterior Decking Oil 2C because this product provides outstanding protection for the wood and the colour of the wood was ideal for the interior design. And so, they applied it to both floor and the wall furnishing. It looks wonderful and is easy to maintain. Every day, they use Rubio Monocoat (RMC) Soap for cleaning and once a week they apply the RMC Refresh Eco spray. That keeps the wood perfectly clean, so that it still looks brand new.’

‘BUITENPARKET’ WORDT DE NIEUWE STANDAARD TERRASSEN IN HOUT OF BAMBOE… BLOEDMOOI EN ECOLOGISCH! Wist je dat… sommige vakmensen liever niet werken voor particulieren? En dat is enkel te wijten aan het feit dat die zo oneindig kritisch en veeleisend zijn. Sommige particuliere klanten onderzoeken het afgeleverde werk als het ware met een vergrootglas, op zoek naar mogelijke onvolkomenheden. Het is zo bij schilderwerken, bij de installatie van een nieuwe keuken of bij die nagelnieuwe parketvloer die door de best gereputeerde vakman werd geplaatst. We betalen pas na een doorgedreven inspectie. En dat is eigenlijk maar terecht ook. Tegelijkertijd worden de eisen steeds strenger. We leggen de lat steeds hoger. Vandaag gebeurt hetzelfde bij de installatie van een terrasvloer of moeten we zeggen… een buitenparket?
