Advisor: (i) Fitri Budi Suryani, SS, M.Pd (ii) Fajar Kartika, SS, M.Hum Keywords: Mood, Speech Function and Monsters University Language is a systematic resource for expressing meaning in context. As a human, we cannot be separated from interaction among individuals. When we speak with others, there will be misunderstanding or misinterpretation if we do not understand the context and the situation. In order to convey our idea, we must know about the function of languages we produce when we are having conversation with others. The function of those languages is also called Speech function. The objectives of this research are to find out the mood types and speech functions realized by mood types in the dialog used by the main character Mike in Monsters University movie script by Dan Scanlon, Daniel Gerson, and Robert L.Baird. This research belongs to descriptive qualitative. The data of this research are mood types and speech functions realized by mood types that are taken from the script of Monsters University movie script written by Dan Scanlon, Daniel Gerson, and Robert L.Baird as the data source. The results of this research are; there are 5 kinds mood types realized by moo types found in the dialog used by the main character “Mike” in Monsters University movie Script, they are: 224 (61,9%) Declarative moods, 59 (16,3%) Elliptical clause, 51 (14%) Imperative moods, 14 (3,9%)Polar Interrogative moods, 14 (3,9%) Wh-interrogative moods. And speech function realized by mood types there are 337 expressed in the Mike’s dialog. They are: command (45 clauses), statement (174), question (24), compliance (2), acknowledgement (29), answer (15), refusal (4), contradiction (37), and disclaimer (7). Based on the result of this research, I suggest the lecturers of English Education Department could use this research as an example when they teach about both of grammar and functional grammar, especially in teaching about mood type and speech function realized by mood types. The students of English Education Department especially the students who study about Functional Grammar can learn more about the mood types and speech function through my research. I suggest the other researchers to analyze the whole utterances in movie script in order to check the validity of the research result.

Sebagai manusia kita tidak dapat dipisahkan dari interaksi antar perorangan. Ketika kita berbicara dengan orang lain, akan terjadi kesalahpahaman atau salah penafsiran jika kita tidak memahami konteks dari suatu situasi. Dalam rangka menyampaikan ide kita, kita harus mengetahui arti dari perkataan yang kita buat ketika kita berbicara dengan orang lain. Fungsi dari bahasa-bahasa itu juga disebut sebagai fungsi bicara. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk menemukan jenis- jenis mood dan fungs-fingsi bicara yang direalisasikan oleh jenis mood dari dialog yang digunakan oleh tokoh utama Mike dalam naskah film Monsters Universityyang ditulis oleh Dan Scanlon, Daniel Gerson, dan Robert L.Baird. Penelitian ini tergolong ke dalam deskriptif kualitatif. Data penelitian dalam penelitian ini adalah fungsi-fungsi bicara yang direalisasikan oleh jenis mood yang diambil dari naskah film Monsters University yang ditulis oleh Dan Scanlon, Daniel Gerson, dan Robert L.Baird. Hasil dari penelitian ini adalah;ada 5 jenis jenis Mood direalisasikan dengan mood yang ditemukan dalam dialog yang digunakan oleh tokoh utama "Mike" di Monsters University film Script, mereka adalah: 224 (61,9%) Declarative moods, 59 (16,3%) Elliptical clause, 51 (14%) Imperative moods, 14 (3,9%)Polar Interrogative moods, 14 (3,9%) Wh-interrogative. Dan speech function yang direalisasikan dengan moos types ada 337 yang dinyatakan dalam dialog Mike. Mereka adalah: command (45 klausa), statement (174), question (24), compliance (2), acknowledgement (29), answer (15), refusal (4), contradiction (37), dan disclaimer(7). Berdasarkan hasil penelitian ini, saya sarankan para dosen dari Jurusan Pendidikan Bahasa Inggris agar bisa menggunakan penelitian ini sebagai contoh ketika mereka mengajar tentang grammar dan functional grammar, terutama dalam mengajarkan tentang mood types dan speech function diwujudkan dengan klausa suasana hati. Mahasiswa JurusanPendidikan Bahasa Inggris terutama siswa yang belajar tentang Functional Grammar dapat mempelajari lebih lanjut tentang mood types dan speech function melalui penelitian saya. saya menyarankan pada peneliti lain untuk menganalisis seluruh percakapan dalam naskah film untuk memeriksa keabsahan hasil penelitian.
