13.1 wat betekenen deze woorden? 1. Can, could en be able to betekenen alledrie eigenlijk hetzelfde, namelijk: "kunnen" 2. De vraag is: wanneer gebruik je welke ? 2.a "Can" en "could" betekent dat je iets kan, of kon. 2.b "To be able to" betekent dat je ergens toe in staat bent. Voorbeeld 1: I can drive a car but I am not able to drive one right now because I have broken my leg. (Dus deze persoon KAN een auto rijden, maar op het moment is die er niet TOE IN STAAT omdat zijn been gebroken is. Voorbeeld 2: I won't be able to help you tomorrow because I've got a party. (Dus deze persoon KAN normaal gesproken wel helpen, maar morgen is die er niet TOE IN STAAT omdat zijn been gebroken is. Voorbeeld 2: I could already speak when he was one. He is not able to now because he's broken his jaw. (Dus deze persoon KON wel spreken vanaf 1 jaar, maar nu is hij er niet TOE IN STAAT omdat zijn kaak gebroken is. Das als je twijfelt tussen de keuze can-could-be able to, vraag jezelf dan af: "Is iemand OP EEN BEPAALD MOMENT IN STAAT om iets te kunnen doen?" "Was iemand OP EEN BEPAALD MOMENT IN STAAT om iets te kunnen doen?" 3. Het verschil tussen "can" en "could" 3.1 could als suggestie: "zou kunnen"
