ABSTRACT
The study aims to find out the kinds of song the teacher use to teach English vocabulary to the 4th grade of Elementary School students. Moreover, the study also attempts to discuss the problems the teacher faces in using song to teach English vocabulary to the students. The writer is interested in analyzing the use of song to teach English vocabulary to the 4th grade students of SD Pendrikan Tengah Semarang. In this Elementary school, the writer finds that the 4th grade students are introduced to English for the first time. Based on the observation and the interview with the teacher the writer is able to determine the kind of song the teacher uses to teach English vocabulary. There are songs about alphabets, numbers, animal, fruits, and other vocabularies. As the writer conducts the study, she finds that the teacher can be really creative. The teacher often uses the same song to teach different vocabularies, yet the lyrics of the song are changed. Even though, this can be viewed as the teacher’s creativity, this way seems to be quite common for the teachers who teach English vocabulary for children. Nevertheless, teaching English vocabulary by using song is not without difficulty. There are some problems the teacher faces in teaching the children. The teacher has to provide appropriate materials for the children, and also has to deal with the children’s mispronunciation. However, the writer finds that there are some steps taken by the teacher to solve the problem. Thus, this study is not only discussing the kind of song used by the teacher, but also discussing further about the problems the teacher faces and the procedures she takes to solve the problems. The writer also proposes some alternative songs that can be used to teach English vocabulary for the children.
ABSTRAK
Pembelajaran ini bertujuan untuk menemukan macam lagu yang digunakan oleh guru untul mengajar kosakata Bahasa Inggris kepada murid-murid kelas 4 Sekolah Dasar. Lebih lanjut, pembelajaran ini juga dimaksudkan untuk membahas permasalahan yang dihadapi oleh guru tersebut dalam menggunakan lagu untuk mengajarkan kosa kata Bahasa Inggris kepada murid-murid. Penulis merasa tertarik untuk menganalisa penggunaan lagu untuk mengajar kosa kata Bahasa Inggris kepada anak-anak kelas 4 SD Pendrikan II Semarang. Di SD ini, penulis menemukan bahwa anak-anak kelas 4 tersebut diperkenalkan dengan Bahasa Inggris untuk pertama kalinya. Berdasarkan observasi dan wawancara dengan sang guru, penulis bisa menentukan macam-macam lagu yang digunakan oleh guru tersebut untuk mengajarkan kosa kata dalam Bahasa Inggris. Ada lagu-lagu mengenai alphabet, angka, binatang, buah, dan kosa kata lainnya. Seiring dengan dilakukannya pembelajaran ini, penulis menemukan bahwa sang guru bisa menjadi sangat kreatif. Ia sering menggunakan lagu yang sama untuk mengajarkan kosa kata yang berbeda, namun dengan mengganti lirik lagunya. Walaupun hal ini dapat dipandang sebagai kreatifitas sang guru, mengganti lirik lagu ini tampaknya merupakan suatu cara yang cukup biasa dilakukan oleh para guru yang mengajar Bahasa Inggris kepada anak-anak. menggunakan lagu bukanlah tanpa ksulitan sama sekali. Ada beberapa masalah yang dihadapi oleh guru dalam mengajar anak-anak. Guru harus menyediakan material yang tepat untuk anak-anak, dan harus pula berurusan dengan pengucapan yang salah. Tetapi penulis menemukan bahwa ada beberapa langkah yang diambil oleh guru untuk memecahkan masalah tersebut. Jadi, pembelajaran ini bukan hanya mengenai macam-macam lagu yang digunakan untuk mengajar kosa kata dalam Bahasa Inggris, melainkan membahas lebih jauh mengenai permasalahan tersebut. Penulis juga berusaha menawarkan alternatif lagu yang bisa digunakan untuk mengajar kosa kata Bahasa Inggris kepada anak-anak.
