Op ca. 5 minuten lopen afstand van de Domus Medica bevindt zich P&R Papendorp. De parkeerkosten voor een hele dag zijn € 3,50*. Een pendelbusje rijdt regelmatig heen en weer tussen het parkeerterrein en de Domus Medica. De Domus Medica is overigens uitstekend bereikbaar met het openbaar vervoer. Voertaal Voordrachten en presentaties zijn Engelstalig. Abstracts De oral presentations en de poster discussions vinden plaats in het Auditorium. Het Auditorium bevindt zich op de eerste verdieping. De posters staan opgesteld in de Alleta Jacob-zaal 1 en 2 en in de Herman Boerhaave-zaal 1 en 2. Alle voordrachten en presentaties vinden plaats onder leiding van moderatoren. Op de dag zelf worden abstractboeken ter beschikking gesteld. Accreditatie De Wetenschapsdag 2008 is geaccrediteerd voor 7 uur. Inschrijving U kunt zich inschrijven via de website van NVA (www.anesthesiologie.nl). De Wetenschapsdag wordt door de NVA aangeboden aan de leden. Inschrijving op de dag zelf is ook mogelijk. In verband met de organisatie en cateringafspraken is aanmelding vooraf gewenst. Annulering Bij annulering na 19 september of no-show wordt een bijdrage in de kosten ad € 25 in rekening gebracht. Geachte collegae, Dit jaar vindt de Wetenschapsdag van de Nederlandse Vereniging voor Anesthesiologie voor de vijfde keer plaats! Deze gebeurtenis is binnen onze vereniging inmiddels een echte traditie en het aantal deelnemers vertoont elk jaar een gestaag stijgende lijn. Dit is de belangrijkste reden dat we de Wetenschapsdag nu in de Domus Medica in Utrecht gaan organiseren, waar we onder andere hopen meer mogelijkheden voor met name de posterpresentaties te hebben. De Wetenschapsdag geeft een overzicht van het anesthesiologisch onderzoek in Nederland en biedt onderzoekers en andere geïnteresseerden de mogelijkheid elkaar te ontmoeten om kennis en ervaring uit te wisselen. We voorzien hier dus duidelijk in een behoefte onder de Nederlandse Anesthesiologen! Ook dit jaar is het Organiserend Comité er weer in geslaagd een tweetal zeer gerenommeerde sprekers naar Nederland te halen; Gregor Theilmeier en Tony Yaksh. In dit programmaboekje worden zij uitgebreid aan u voorgesteld. SHORT BIOGRAPHY
Perioperative cardiovascular events pose a considerable risk for patients undergoing non-cardiac surgery resulting in myocardial infarction in 2 of 1000 surgical patients with an excessively high mortality of 20-40%. Perioperative stress control by different means (e.g. beta receptor blockade) may induce risks per se. Perioperative statin therapy seems to be associated with a beneficial effect on outcome. This effect - beyond its lipid lowering effects - is thought to be due to pleiotropic effects leading to improved endothelial function and reduced plaque destabilization due to pro-inflammatory effects. Measures to rapidly stabilize lesions by evicting pro-inflammatory cells and thereby reducing plaque vulnerability during the perioperative phase are not available at the clinical, but become visible at the experimental level. The potential of HDL raising strategies and HDL function-improving strategies are close to clinical evaluation and may offer future opportunities to achieve rapid plaque stabilization in a setting that leaves only short time for preoperative preparation of patients.
Gregor Theilmeier MD Professor and Vice Chairman, Director of Research, Head of Experimental Anesthesiology, Department of Anesthesiology, Hannover Medical School. Gregor Theilmeier is Attending in anaesthesia and director of research at the Department of Anaesthesiology and Intensive-Care Medicine at the Hannover Medical School. He studied obtained his degree at the University of Münster Medical School, qualifying as a physician in 1995, and at Stanford University Medical School. He obtained his MD in 1997 and passed his postdoctoral Habilitation degree, qualifying him as Provatdozent, in 2003. Dr. Theilmeier’s research group Translational Perioperative Inflammation Group, based at the Department of ANesthesiology and Intensive Care Medicine, uses state-of-the-art mouse models of perioperative diseases in combination with cutting-edge basic-science technology, and is exploring possible ways of using pharmacological and/or gene-therapy methods to modulate the inflammatory response to myocardial ischemia and global hypoxia and to stabilize vulnerable coronary artery lesions. Dr. Theilmeier has published numerous articles, abstracts, book chapters and reviews and has been granted a large number of research grants. He is a member of the Collaborative Research Center for Regenerative Cardiovascular Medicine. Dr. Theilmeier has been awarded numerous awards and honors among which the prestigious August-Wilhelm-undLiselotte-Becht-Award 2006. He is a member of the Committee on Basic Science and Vice Speaker of the Scientific Board for Mentoring of Young Scientists of the German Society of Anaesthesiology and Intensive-Care Medicine (Deutsche Gesellschaft für Anästhesiologie und Intensivmedizin, DGAI) and serves as a reviewer for numerous international journals, including Anesthesia and Analgesia,Critical Care Medicine, Apoptosis, Thrombosis and Haemostasis, the Journal of Thrombosis and Haemostasis and the Journal of Vascular Biology. He is a member of the DGAI, the European Society of Anaesthesiology (ESA), the International Anaesthesia Research Society (IARS) and the North American Vascular Biology Organization (NAVBO).

Spinal Drugs and Spinal Targets for Pain Control
SHORT BIOGRAPHY
Advances in technology (hollow needle and hypodermic syringe) and pharmacology, (purification/ identification of action of cocaine) led to clinical demonstration of the robust spinal block. In the 1970’s, spinal opiates were found to selectively alter pain in animals and then humans. Evolving insights into the mechanisms of spinal nociceptive processing have provided an array of target motifs which can alter selectively the chronic pain state: 1) Blocking small afferent traffic: Sodium channel subtypes on small primary afferents. 2) Primary afferent terminals: Presynaptic modulation though receptors located on the C fiber terminal (µ/? opioid, a2 adrenergic) or agents which regulate terminal transmitter release (Ca Channel blockers) 3) Pathways leading to spinal sensitization: Spinal NMDA and Ca-permeable AMPA sites, lipid mediator and kinase cascades). 4) Pharmacological systems with hyperalgesic effects: Local and extraspinal modulatory loops. 5) Non neuronal cells. These targets emphasize the complexity of spinal encoding of nocicpetive information and offer candidates for controlling the content of the afferent message upon which the pain state is based.
Tony L. Yaksh, Ph.D. Professor and Vice Chairman for Research, Department of Anesthesiology Professor of Pharmacology University of California, San Diego Dr. Yaksh obtained his B.S. degree from the Georgia Institute of Technology (1966), M.S. degree from the University of Georgia (1968), and Ph.D. degree from Purdue University (1971). Dr. Yaksh served in the U.S. Army, working in the Biomedical Laboratory at Edgewood Arsenal, MD (1971-73). He was a research scientist in the School of Pharmacy, University of Wisconsin (1973-76) and an Associate Research Scientist in the Anatomy Department at University College London (1976-77). He worked at the Mayo Clinic, Rochester, MN, from 1977 to 1988, reaching the rank of Professor in Pharmacology and Neurosurgery. Dr. Yaksh joined UCSD in 1988 as Professor and Vice Chairman for Research in the Department of Anesthesiology and Professor of Pharmacology. He is also Co-Director of the Palliative Care research group at the UCSD Moores Cancer Center. The focus of Dr. Yaksh’s research has been primarily in the area of the physiology and pharmacology pain processing. He has a particular interest in the role of non-neuronal cells and lipid mediators in pain transmission. He is an expert on issues related to spinal drug kinetics and the evaluation of the safety of spinally delivered agents. He has been active as a researcher, publishing more than 650 papers and 460 abstracts and editing 6 texts, the most recent being “Spinal Drug Delivery”. He has been a mentor to more than 100 post-graduate Fellows. He has been funded consistently by the NIH since 1977 and has twice been a Javitz award recipient. He is currently the Principal Investigator on several grants and numerous contracts. Dr. Yaksh is a member of numerous professional societies in his field, is a consultant for the U.S. FDA and serves on the editorial board of several journals. He has received many honors and awards, including the FWL Kerr award of the American Pain Society, the American Society of Anesthesiology (ASA) Award for Excellence in Research, the Rovenstein award from the New York Society of Anesthesiology, the Torsten Gordh award from the Swedish Society of Medicine and the Seldon Memorial Lecturer, for the International Anesthesia Research Society 2007.

De halte Papendorp-Zuid bevindt zich recht tegenover de Domus Medica, op zeer korte loopafstand. De busrit over de vrije busbaan duurt maximaal 16 minuten. VERVOLG ROUTEBESCHRIJVING: Aan het einde van de afrit linksaf (Papendorpseweg). Bij de tweede stoplichten rechtsaf en vervolgens direct weer naar rechts. Bij de splitsing gaat u rechts de Mercatorlaan op. U passeert dan de Domus Medica aan de voorzijde. Aan het einde van Mercatorlaan vindt u het Transferium Papendorp(naast de Prins Clausbrug). Vanuit Den Haag/Rotterdam (A12) Bij knooppunt Oudenrijn volgt u Ring Utrecht (zuid). Neem afrit 16 Nieuwegein/Papendorp. Bij de stoplichten gaat u links en direct naar rechts. Bij de splitsing gaat u rechts de Mercatorlaan op. U passeert dan de Domus Medica aan de voorzijde. Aan het einde van Mercatorlaan vindt u het Transferium Papendorp(naast de Prins Clausbrug).
Oproep tot het indienen van aanvragen voor een
NVA Young Investigator Grant 2009 € 50.000 voor een periode van twee jaar
De onderzoeker, het onderzoek en de infrastructuur De aanvrager is reeds gepromoveerd of bevindt zich in de laatste fase van zijn promotieonderzoek en is lid van de NVA (promotiedatum binnen één jaar). Naast wetenschappelijke ambitie beschikt de aanvrager over een duidelijk en goed uitgewerkt plan voor vervolgonderzoek. De resultaten van het voorgestelde onderzoek dienen voor de anesthesiologie belangrijke klinische of fundamentele onderzoeksvragen te beantwoorden. Multidisciplinaire onderzoeksamenwerking wordt sterk aangemoedigd. Op de afdeling of binnen de vakgroep waar hij/zij werkt is een goede infrastructuur voor onderzoek en is er een senioronderzoeker die als begeleider en klankbord functioneert. ‘Matching’: De afdeling draagt bij in de kosten van het onderzoek Omdat een dergelijke persoonsgebonden tweejarige NVA subsidie slechts voor een deel kostendekkend kan zijn, wordt van de instelling waar de onderzoeker werkzaam is verwacht dat deze een bijdrage levert aan het project welke minimaal gelijk is aan de toegekende subsidie (‘matching’). Deze bijdrage kan bestaan uit het ter beschikking stellen van (een deel van) de onderzoektijd, onderzoekassistentie (research nurse) of laboratoriumfaciliteiten.
