Stress in de hulpverlening Iedereen die wel eens in moeilijke omstandigheden heeft moeten werken kent het gevoel van een bepaalde mate van “spanning”. Dat gevoel begint bijvoorbeeld bij de aankondiging van een ramp of groot trauma en gaat samen met fysieke veranderingen als een verhoogde hartslag, verwijdde pupillen en centralisatie van de bloedtoevoer naar de belangrijke organen. Met andere woorden, je komt in een verhoogde staat van paraatheid om straks optimaal te kunnen presteren. Maar als deze activatie een bepaalde drempel overschrijdt ontstaat er stress en kan dit leiden tot juist een verminderd vermogen om te presteren. Dit kan de hulpverlening in bijvoorbeeld opgeschaalde omstandigheden nadelig beïnvloeden. In ons jaarlijks regionaal traumasymposium willen we u aan de hand van voorbeelden uit de praktijk en de wetenschap handvatten aanreiken hoe om te gaan met stress en hoe je jezelf hierop in de toekomst kan voorbereiden. Dr. Müller is attending physician in anaesthesiology with additional specialisation in emergency medicine and intensive care medicine. He took part in the Harvard Macy Program for Physician Educators and in a master class (Master of Medical Education). Dr. Müller is course director for Advanced Life Support Courses (ERC), instructor for the European Paediatric Life Support Course, and ATLS Instructor. Dr. Müller´s research focus is educational research on human factor training in medicine. He has developed a curriculum for simulator based crew resource management training, which he has implemented in undergraduate and postgraduate education. His team has evaluated the effects of different training interventions on stress, performance, and non-technical skills in crisis scenarios.
