AN ANALYSIS OF ENGLISH PHRASES USED IN LYRICS OF BRUNO MARS’ SONGS ABSTRACT This study aimed to (1) finding out the five types of English phrases used in lyrics of Bruno Mars’ songs were analyzed using graphic box (2) finding out the dominant of English phrases used in lyrics of Bruno Mars’ songs (3) determing the formation and meaning of English phrase used in lyrics of Bruno Mars song. This study used qualitative design and the type of qualitative design used in this study is content analysis which applied to written or visual materials. Documentation technique was used as the data collection procedure.This studyfocusto identify fivetypes ofEnglish phrasesnamelynoun phrase, verb phrase, adjectivephrase, adverbphraseandprepositionalphrases. All these type were found in seven song lyrics belongs to Bruno Mars, where the six song lyrics were chosen in Doo Wops Hooligans album released in 2010 and one song lyric released in 2011. Five types of phrase were found thatwas used agraphicbox which has fivecriteriaand it must be consideredin apply it. Based onthe result analysis, it was found thatthe five types of English phrases are noun phraseused in themajority ofthe sevensong lyrics ofBrunoMarswiththe resultreached46.2%. Whereas verbphrase wasfoundwith the result of31%, adjectivephrasewith the result of5.7%, adverbphrasewith the result of8.8%, and the last was prepositionalphrasewith the result of8.2%.These context of sevensongs belongBrunoMars wasrepresentsome matters that relate with thereal lifenamelyabout lovewith a woman, friendshipand also relate withanger, hatred, disappointmentor despair. There was also the content of the songs concerned with the development of meaning like metonymy, methapor, idiom and socio-culture meaning. Therefore, this study is recommended to the teacher to be more creative and innovative in applying media that can get the students’ interest. Key words: English phrases,song lyrics of Bruno Mars.

SEBUAH ANALISIS FRASA-FRASA BAHASA INGGRIS YANG DIGUNAKAN PADA LIRIK LAGU BRUNO MARS ABSTRAK Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk (1) menemukan lima jenis frasa bahasa inggris yang digunakan pada lirik lagu Bruno Mars yang dianalisa menggunakan grafik kotak (2) menemukan frasa bahasa Inggris yang dominan yang digunakan pada lirik lagu Bruno Mars (3) menentukan bentuk dan makna dari frasa bahasa inggris yang digunakan pada lirik lagu Bruno Mars. Penelitian ini menggunakan desain kualitatif dan jenis dari kualitatif yang digunakan pada penelitian ini adalah analisis konten yang diterapkan untuk materi tertulis atau visual. Teknik dokumentasi telah digunakan sebagai prosedur pengumpulan data. Penelitian ini berfokus pada identifikasi lima jenis frasa bahasa Inggris yaitu frasa kata benda, frasa kata kerja, frasa kata sifat, frasa kata keteragan dan frasa kata depan. Semua jenis ini telah diemukan pada tujuh lagu milik Bruno Mars, yang mana enam lirik lagu telah dipilih pada album Doo Wops Holligans yang rilis pada tahun 2010 and satu lirik lagu yang rilis pada tahun 2011. Kelima jenis frasa yang ditemukan bahwasanya menggunakan analisa grafik kotak yang memiliki lima kriteria dan kriteria itu harus dipertimbangkan untuk pengaplikasikannya. Berdasarkan hasil analisa, telah ditemukan bahwa terdapat lima jenis frasa bahasa Inggris yaitu frasa kata benda digunakan dalam sebagian besar pada tujuh lirik lagu milik Bruno Mars dengan hasil mencapai 46.2%. Sedangkan frasa kata kerja telah ditemukan dengan hasil 31%, frasa kata sifat dengan hasil 5.7%, frasa kata keterangan dengan hasil 8.8% dan yang terakhir adalah frasa kata depan dengan hasil 8.2%. Ketujuh konten lagu milik Bruno mars ini telah mewakili beberapa hal yang berhubungan dengan kehidupan nyata yaitu tentang percintaan dengan seorang wanita, persahabatan dan juga berhubungan dengan kemarahan, kebencian, kekecewaan atau keputus asaan. Adapula isi dari lagu-lagu ini yang terkait dengan perkembangan makna seperti metonimi, metafora, idiom/ungkapan dan makna sosial budaya. Oleh karena itu penelitian ini direkomendasikan untuk para guru agar lebih kreatif dan inovatif dalam menggunakan media yang bisa memperoleh ketertarikan para murid. Kata kunci: Frasa-frasa Bahasa Inggris, lirik lagu milik Bruno Mars.

CURRICULUM VITAE Harisna was born on March, 20, 1992 in Palangkaraya, Central Borneo. She spent her elementary in MIN Langkai Palangkaraya and graduated on 2004. She continued her junior and senior high school seven years along in Islamic Boarding School of Alfalah Puteri Banjar Baru and graduated on 2011. After that, she chose to continue her study in the state Islamic institute of Palangkaraya. She chose the department of language education in the study program of English education. Her father’s name is H. Abdul Fatah and her mother’s name is Hj. Asih Sinarsih. She has three brothers and two sisters. They live in Jl. G.Obos No. 191 Palangkaraya. She loved to sing and write a new story on her blog. The other hobbies she had been really liked to draw a dress or home sketch. Now she prepares herself to help her parent by looking for a good job and becoming a career woman. She had a dream to be an employer or a successful entrepreneur.
