ABSTRAK Skripsi yang berjudul The Analysis of the Grotesque Characteristics in Flannery O’Connor’s Novel Wise Blood ini adalah suatu kajian mengenai ciri khas grotesque yang terdapat dalam novel Wise Blood karya seorang penulis Amerika Flannery O'Connor (1925-1964). Dalam skripsi ini penulis menjelaskan tentang penolakan karakter akan keberadaan Kristus yang menyebabkan tokoh tersebut memiliki ciri khas grotesque, yaitu absurd atau tidak logis, misterius, ironis, komik, tingkah laku tokoh yang kasar, penggunaan symbol dan adanya monster. Penulis menggunakan metode deskriptif dalam menganalisis skripsi ini, yaitu penulis membaca novel yang berjudul Wise Blood, menyeleksi data dengan mengambil kutipan-kutipan dari berbagai sumber, menginterpretasi data, dan menganalisi data. Analisis yang diperoleh dari analisis tersebut adalah bahwa ciri khas grotesque yang dapat ditemukan di dalam novel Wise Blood disebabkan karena keinginan tokoh untuk lari dari kebenaran.
