ABSTRACT Nowadays, parents are becoming more aware of the importance of English language learning for their young children. They think that the earlier they send their children to learn other languages, the better the results will be. Based on such phenomenon, the researcher conducted a research on teaching English to playgroup pupils through fun activities. The research questions are, firstly, how much English is used by the teachers and pupils of Kiddieland Playgroup?. Secondly what kind of English fun activities are used by the teachers of Kiddieland Playgroup in order to make the students familiar with English? The investigation is conducted with the help of the pupils, their parents, and teachers of Kiddieland Playgroup - Preschool as research participants. The instruments used to obtain the data are recordings, questionnaires, interviews, and classroom observation. The analysis is done based on descriptive statistics and interaction analysis. The results of the analysis show that most pupils are able to speak English through various kinds of fun activity. Most of the facilities available and the teaching techniques used are also considered very important. However, they still need to be improved. As a whole, the Kiddieland’s pupils’ abilities to speak English are quite good for children at their age.
ABSTRAK Sekarang ini, para orang tua menyadari pentingnya pendidikan bahasa Inggris untuk anak-anak mereka. Mereka berpikir bahwa semakin awal mereka menyekolahkan anaknya untuk mempelajari bahasa lain, maka hasil yang didapat akan lebih memuaskan. Berdasarkan informasi tersebut, peneliti mengadakan penelitian terhadap pengajaran bahasa Inggris untuk murid-murid Playgroup melalui Fun Activities. Pertanyaan-pertannyaan yang diajukan adalah yang pertama, seberapa banyak bahasa Inggris dipakai oleh para guru dan para murid di Kiddieland Playgroup?, yang kedua, Kegiatan Fun Activities macam apa saja yang digunakan oleh para guru di Kiddieland Playgroup untuk membuat para murid terbiasa dengan bahasa Inggris? Penelitian ini dilaksanakan dengan bantuan para murid, orang tua mereka, dan para guru di Kiddieland Playgroup – Preschool sebagai objek penelitian. Peralatan yang digunakan untuk mendapatkan data adalah rekaman, angket, wawancara, dan observasi di kelas. Analisa yang dilakukan berdasarkan statistik deskriptif dan analisa interaksi. Hasil dari analisa menunjukkan bahwa murid-murid kebanyakan mampu berbicara bahasa Inggris melalui berbagai macam Fun Activities. Fasilitas-fasilitas yang sudah tersedia dan juga teknik mengajar juga sangat penting. Akan tetapi semua itu masih perlu ditingkatkan. Secara keseluruhan, untuk anak-anak seumur mereka, kemampuan muridmurid Kiddieland dalam berbicara bahasa Inggris cukup memadai.
