Zorgorganisaties, dokters, paramedici voelen de de noodzaak om “iets” te doen met deze ontwikkelingen. Sociale media, en web 2.0 toepassingen in bredere zin bieden mogelijkheden om het aanbod anders in te richten. Niet alleen in het contact met de patiënten zelf, maar ook in de interne kennisdeling en samenwerking binnen organisaties is verandering en verbetering mogelijk. Daarnaast zijn er tal van kansen om het internet in te zetten voor de externe profilering en het contact met ketenpartners

Symposium ‘Hernia & Stenose: Eenheid in verscheidenheid. Lage rugpijn staat op de eerste plaats op de ranglijst van ziektelast (Lancet December 2012). Ongeveer één vijfde van de patiënten met lage rugpijn blijft langdurig kampen met pijn en beperkingen. Goede zorg levert dus grote winst op, voor de patiënt, d iens omgeving en zeker ook maatschappelijk. Tegelijkertijd neemt praktijkvariatie alleen maar toe. Alle reden dus om de zorg aan deze patiëntengroep zoveel mogelijk vanuit de laatste wetenschappelijke inzichten te stroomlijnen en te optimaliseren. Uiteinde lijk zal blijken dat ‘zwart-wit’-oplossingen rond dit thema niet bestaan en er waarschijn lijk evenmin komen. Shared decision making vanuit een gedeelde kennisbasis wordt daarmee des te belangrijker. Een overzicht van multidisciplinaire initiatieven, die daaraan een impuls kunnen geven.
