What tourist attractions are there in London?
Places of interest The City of London, the oldest part of the town, is not far from the River Thames. There are two part of the City of London: The East End where the docks are situated and the West End which is famous for its shops, theatres and cinemas. William the Conqueror built The Tower of London (1) in the 11th century. Once it was a royal palace, then prison, and once it was even a royal zoo. The Crown Jewels are currently stored in the Jewel House in the Tower of London. St. Paul's Cathedral (2) - is one of the largest cathedrals in the world. In 1981 Charles and Diana were married here. After climbing 311 steps, you have a marvellous view of London. The City of Westminter is known as the centre of political and administrative life of Great Britain. The Houses of Parliament (3) on the left bank of the Thames was rebuilt in the Gothic style. The Big Ben is the bell of the clock tower of the Houses of Parliament. The tower is 97 metres high. Many English kings and queens have been crowned and burried in Westminster Abbey (4). Buckingham Palace (5) is the London home of the Queen. Since 1993 parts of the Palace have been opened to the public, including the Queen's Picture Gallery. Other places of interest in London are: Trafalgar Square (6) and the Old Royal Observatory.
