PERSBERICHT 10 april 2013
PRESENTATIE WORLDWIDEFOREST.COM IN FUORISALONE PROGRAMMA TIJDENS DE MILANO DESIGN WEEK 12 APRIL 18 – 22 UUR
The book is back!

PRESS RELEASE April 10, 2013
PRESENTATION WORLDWIDEFOREST.COM IN FUORISALONE PROGRAM DURING MILANO DESIGN WEEK 12TH OF APRIL 18 - 22 HOURS
The book is back! A book designed and produced like books were a century ago. The contemporary story is wrapped in a manually bound linen cover with wide typesetting and significant details. Next to this furniture and other objects emerged from the book. The prototype of the book and its objects are on show in Milan during the Design Week / Salone del Mobile in Milan this week. WorldWideForest.com is a mysterious story of two brothers who, after the death of their father, inherit an old run-down farm. They want to hide the ugly factory buildings that surround the farmland behind trees as quickly as possible. Indications found in the farm lead to experiments of their great grandfather. All this helps them to realize their ideal. The book is written by Jan Puylaert, a Dutch designer who lives and works in Italy. ‘The story just fell from the sky’ so he says. Writing this book inspired him to explore new possibilities of design. The text was completed and sometimes rewritten by the designer Ilia Chidzey in Australia. For Jan Puylaert it was clear from the start that the atmosphere of the story, the 'letters', had to form an unity with the appearance of the book. Inspiration for this he found in books that were made at the beginning of the twentieth century. Pieter Kers was asked by Irma van Welzen, publisher of tutti (books,) to take care of the graphic design of this book. He did so with careful attention to the needs of the story. He even put seeds in the paper in order to make a perfect combination of form and content. The prototype of the English book and the objects now on show in Milan will be further developed in the coming months. Starting this autumn, book, furniture and objects will be for sale. In the blog http://worldwideforest.blogspot.nl/ you can follow the progress. In the attachment you find the curriculum vitae of the makers

Jan Puylaert
Born in Sas van Gent, Holland, in 1963 studied at the NHIBS (National Institute for Architecture e City Construction) in Antwerp, Belgium and received in 1990 Master in Science (Bionics) at The European Institute of Design (IED) in Milan, Italy. He worked as an intern designer with the important studio Ottavio di Blasi in Milan on various design-projects for various companies like B&B Italia, Colombo handles & Terry Plastics. Ottavio di Blasi follows the Renzo Piano school, where structure leads the design in any plan. Then for 3 years he worked for the RIHO International group (Tilburg, Holland) as head of design (specialized in bathroom products such as massage-bathtubs, shower-cabinets, bathroomfurniture). At RIHO International he also worked as purchaser. This particular combination of design and purchase was interesting since the technical background as a designer leads towards a specific purchase strategy, following, and/or changing sometimes the design, in order to meet the exact combination of part-purchase to reach the best product/price/performance relations. On request of RIHO International he opened Studio PROJEKT as managing director in Milan, from where all design activities for the entire RIHO group were managed and great deal of the purchase of Italian products was arranged. In 2000 he opened his own design & production company under the name WET® with which he promotes trendsetting products of high design level specialized in the bathroom area accomplishing sales on international scale. DESIGN PLUS award for SYPHON by WET® / design: Jan Puylaert & Alexis Oskam DESIGN PLUS award for LIGHT by WET® / design: Jan Puylaert Premio comfort e Design / MCE for LIGHT by WET® / design: Jan Puylaert Jan Puylaert lectured at the University of Canberra, Australia, and has organized different courses in design at the European Institute of Design (IED) in Milan, Italy, exploring themes such as Semiotics proposing new ideas on design-parameters with their international differences as well as developing Realistic Futuristic Visions based on his cultural mutation model. Ilia Chidzey
‘Born in Sydney in 1968, I spent 4 years of my childhood in Papua New Guinea before returning to Sydney in 1975. I spent my formative years in Canberra where I graduated with a Bachelor in Industrial Design in 1993 from the University of Canberra. During my studies I was fortunate enough to be selected to participate in a traineeship scheme at Philips in Eindhoven, The Netherlands. After graduating I became involved with a collective called The Zoo Illustrative Group before discovering my feet in mural painting. Meeting Geoff Pryor and being allowed to illustrate for the Canberra Times on occasion, was a highlight, although my meandering mind wasn’t quite ready for the rigours of deadlines. After the birth of my son in 1995 I focused my professional energies on developing my skills as a graphic designer, a path that I still vigorously pursue. I have always painted and drawn, however it is only in recent years that I have put emphasis on this side of my development, and been exhibiting. I have been based on the Gold Coast for the last 12 years. I have worked in collaboration with Melissa Bates on what we like to call ‘im’s – an exciting combination of brass, aluminum and acrylic. In 2012 I was fortunate enough to become involved with ‘Colour in your life’, a television series showcasing Australian artists.’ Ilia Chidzey | www.ilia.com.au |

Pieter Kers
… is an independent designer covering content, both digitally (web, app, eBook) and graphically (book, brochure and corporate identity). ‘After being educated in both economics and art (photography) I started working as a designer and production manager of Lemniscaat, a major publishing house in Rotterdam. In 2001 I started my own studio in design and book production called Het vlakke land working for major publishers in The Netherlands. After merging in 2007 with a medium sized publishing house I became managing director of a publishing-group. It was an interesting experience and I was involved in all sorts of graphical and digital projects in a number of roles (designer, project manager, purchaser etc.). But I started missing being focused on specific projects and finally I decided to get rid of it all and start all over again. Since then I have my own studio as an independent designer covering content.’
