1) Minulá zkušenost, zážitek Předpřítomný čas prostý používáme, když popisujeme naši minulou zkušenost, zážitky, kterými jsme prošli, či které jsme ještě nezažili. ("Zažil jsem …, zkusil jsem… byl jsem…."). Nikdy nepoužíváme s konkrétním časem v minulosti. ( Byl jsem v Praze, tj. mám tu zkušenost: I have been to Prague x Včera jsem jel do Prahy, tj. v konkrétní dobu: I went to Prague yesterday). Překládá se většinou minulým časem, proto se často českým mluvčím plete s minulým časem prostým. 

2) Změna v průběhu času Používáme tehdy, mluvíme-li o změně, která se odehrála v průběhu času. 

My English has really improved since I moved to Australia. Moje angličtina se opravdu zlepšila od té doby, co jsem se odstěhoval do Austrálie.

3) Neukončené aktivity Používáme tento čas i tehdy, pokud poukazujeme na neukončené aktivity či úkoly a stále očekáváme, že budou splněny. Časté je příslovce YET ( pouze v záporné větě nebo otázce!) ve smyslu "ještě ne"/"už" a STILL ve smyslu "stále" (v kladné větě). 

5) Děj, který začal v minulosti a trvá dodnes Často se vyskytuje ve větách s vyjádřením času, tj. od kdy probíhá děj, například SINCE (odkdy) last Tuesday, FOR (jak dlouho) two weeks, for 5 minutes, atd. Překládá se do češtiny jako přítomný čas! 

Protože zdůrazňujeme délku, po kterou aktivitu vykonáváme, používáme často bližší časové určení – už 5 minut, půl hodiny, dva roky apod. Pokud nechceme udat přesnou dobu, můžeme použít příslovce LATELY a/nebo RECENTLY " poslední dobou", " v poslední době".  I have been learning English for 5 years. ČLENY (Articles) V anglickém jazyce před většinou podstatných jmen stojí člen. Existují 3 základní členy: A/AN, což je člen neurčitý, THE, což je člen určitý a člen nulový Ø 1. Používáme a / an , když mluvíme o něčem poprvé He is wearing a suit and a tie. Má na sobě (nějaký) oblek a (nějakou) kravatu. They have a cat. Mají kočku. 2. (obecně je to zdravá zelenina) The carrots growing in my garden are almost ready to eat. Tyto mrkve z mé zahrady už jsou téměř zralé. (specifikuji, myslím konkrétní zeleninu)

According to Dr Meddis, the 'tiredness' we feel at THE end of THE day is produced by a chemical mechanism in the brain which makes us sleep. We are 'programmed' to feel 'tired' or 'sleepy' at Ø midnight, even if we have spent the day relaxing on the beach or doing nothing. Dr Meddis believes that the unpleasant symptoms we suffer when we don't sleep enough are not because we have not rested but because we have disobeyed our brain's programming. THE longer we don't sleep THE worse we feel. But Dr Meddis believes that if scientists could locate and 'turn off' the sleep mechanism in our brain that produces tiredness, we could live completely normal and healthy lives without sleeping. So is sleeping A waste of time? Well, even Dr Meddis does not deny THE great psychological value of sleep, and he asks us, "if scientists invented A pill which, if you took it, would keep you awake for ever, would you take it?"
