1. Introductions 1.1. Meeting, Greeting Good morning / afternoon, everybody. Take your seats. I want you to stand up. Let me introduce myself. I’m going to be your teacher this week. I’m a student teacher. Now let us introduce each other. I will need the classroom seating chart. or: Could you make name cards?

Dobrý den. Posaďte se na svá místa. Chci, abyste vstali. Dovolte mi, abych se představil/a. Tento týden vás budu učit já. Jsem tu na praxi. Teď se představíme navzájem. Budu potřebovat zasedací pořádek. Anebo: mohli byste si připravit jmenovky?

1.2. Register Where is the class register? I haven´t filled it in. Do you mind if I sit down? I have to make an entry in the register. May I borrow …? Could you lend me a pen, please? Who is on duty in the class? Who is the monitor? Who wants to be in charge? What’s today’s date? Put today’s date on the board.

Kde je třídní kniha? Ještě jsem ji nevyplnil/a. Nevadí vám, když se posadím? Musím zapsat do třídní knihy. Mohu si půjčit … ? Mohl bys mi, prosím, půjčit pero? Kdo má ve třídě službu? Kdo je služba? Kdo si to chce vzít na starost? Kolikátého je dnes? Napiš na tabuli dnešní datum.

1.3. Attendance Let’s see if everyone is here. Who’s missing? Who’s absent today? Who wasn’t here last time? Can´t you come on time? Make sure it doesn´t happen again. Have you got the doctor’s certificate? or: your parents´ letter of excuse? I cannot excuse anybody from this lesson.

Podíváme se, jestli jsou zde všichni. Kdo chybí? Kdo dnes chybí? Kdo tu nebyl minule? Copak ty nemůžeš přijít včas? Dej pozor, aby se to neopakovalo. Máš potvrzení od lékaře? Nebo: omluvenku od rodičů? Z této hodiny nemohu nikoho uvolnit.


2. Classroom Management 2.1. Arranging the classroom Put your name cards on your desks. Put your desks together. Bring two more chairs, please. Hurry up so that I can start the lesson. Pull the board down. Push it up. Can you switch the lights on / off? We will need special equipment.

Dejte si na lavice jmenovky. Srazte lavice k sobě. Přines ještě dvě židle, prosím. Pospěšte si, ať mohu začít hodinu. Stáhni tabuli. Zvedni ji. Můžete rozsvítit /zhasnout? Budeme potřebovat zvláštní pomůcky.

2.2. The lesson – beginning and ending rituals There goes the bell. Zvoní. The break is over. Přestávka skončila. Let’s get started. Začněme. It’s time to start now. Je čas, abychom už začali. I am not quite sure how to put this but … Nejsem si docela jistý/á, jak to říct, ale … I seem to be losing my voice. Zdá se, že ztrácím hlas. There is no point in beginning this ... Není důvod, abychom začínali ... We’ll continue with this task next time. V této práci budeme pokračovat příště. We’ll finish this next time. Dokončíme to příště. There’s some time left. Ještě nám zbývá chvilka času. We have a few minutes left. Máme ještě několik minut času. We have extra four minutes. Máme ještě čtyři minuty. The bell rings for the break. Zvoní na přestávku. Let’s have a break. Uděláme si přestávku. We’ve run out of time. Nezbyl nám čas. That’ll do for today’s lesson. To pro dnešní hodinu stačí. Time is up. Čas uplynul. The lesson is over. Hodina skončila. Next time we’ll meet in room 18. Příště se sejdeme v učebně č.18. All right. That’s all for today, thank you. Tak, to je pro dnešek všechno, děkuji vám. Can someone clean the board? 2.3. Discipline May I have your attention. Pay attention, please. Speak up, please. Speak so that we can hear you. Louder / softer. Wait till you are asked. Don´t interrupt him. Don’t talk. Stop talking. Don’t whisper. Do stop whispering. Don´t laugh at him. Sit still. Turn round. Don´t prompt. Don´t cheat. I´ll have to separate you.

3. Classroom Interaction 3.1. Organizing the pupils for work Come to the front (of the class). Go to the board. Stand with your back to the class. Go back to your place. Put up your hand/s. Raise your hands. Your turn. Don´t talk at the same time. In turns. I´ll divide you into groups. Work in twos / pairs. Make pairs. Work in threes / fours / fives. Practise in groups of four. There are too many in this group. Get into groups of six. Please share this handout. Cooperate. Work on your own.
