Big Data, the new Paradigm of the Information Society
8
These days Big Data is a popular term used to describe the boom, availability and analysis of structured and unstructured information. Big data is a key phenomenon of today’s information society. Everyday a huge amount of data is collected from online commerce, web-browsing, social media, and health-related activities. Big Data sets challenges and provides opportunities for government, science and business. This paper attempts to paint a global picture about Big Data, and to present its definitions and the road so far. It also address myriad challenges in the handling of Big Data sets, such as privacy, accuracy, and security. Keywords: Big Data, privacy, digital footprint, sensors, social media Barbara SÓLYOM
Smartphone usage among Hungarian pupils aged 11–14
29
The purpose of our research is to explore school pupils’ user habits, skills, opinions and attitudes towards smartphones. Based on qualitative research findings we describe and analyse experiences of smartphones among pupils aged 11-14, including usage patterns, skills and attitudes. Our research shows that the school pupils in this age group can imagine their lives without a smartphone, their online presence is not in the ‘always-on’ mode, and they use their smartphones to varying degrees and for various lengths of time. Keywords: qualitative research; youth; secondary school; smartphone; smartphone usage

Differences between the level of ICT development of EU member states – results of a cluster analysis
46
In foreign literature there are more and more studies that prove the causal relationship between investments in information technologies and productivity, as well as the efficiency of organizations, respectively, and the optimization of using material and human factors in ICT for their more effective use. Based on the results of the previous studies that proved the link between proactive management, innovation, productivity and use of ICT resources, the goal of this study is to extend research in this field by using some complex statistical methods (principal components analysis, non-hierarchical cluster analysis and hierarchical cluster analysis) in order to analysis how they group together – according to the ICT indicators

Development of motion detection algorithms based on simultaneous processing using mobile phone sensors
57
The growing use of sensor networks based on wireless data transfer technologies have opened up the opportunity to collect vast volumes of measurement data, enabling research teams to begin developing algorithms to gain information from sensor data. One of the most extensively researched areas is that of motion detection. The article presents a system in which motion detection is examined in a general environment, i.e. different forms of motion are not identified with the help of sensors attached to the human body but by using data gathered by mobile sensors, which is practically found on every member of society. Keywords: motion detection, machine learning, sensory data, time series, pattern recognition
