As our capital is a beautiful city in Hungary, I can recommend you several nice places to see. You should definitely visit the Buda Castle District, which is one of the most beautiful and romantic parts of Budapest. The Parliament is also well worth visiting. Then you can go to the City Park where you can visit Vajdahunyad Castle. Then you could go to Heroes’ Square where you can see some monuments, the Museum of Fine Arts and the Art Gallery. You should also visit Saint Stephan’s Cathedral and the National Museum. In the countryside you should visit Eger, which is famous for its wine region and its castle. Not far from Eger is Szilvásvárad where you can visit some museums. In Miskolc-Tapolca there is the beautiful Lake Cave. Then you must visit the Hortobágy National Park where you can see a lot of different species of animals, the Nine-Hole Bridge and the Hortobágy Csárda. In the Csárda you can try some Hungarian specialties. As I know that you like staying in luxury hotels, I have booked a suite for you in a five-star hotel in Budapest and a double room in a three-star hotel in the center of Eger and one in
Debrecen. I have arranged for a self-drive rented car. I was wondering if you would need an English-speaking guide during your trip. Please let me know if you have any further wishes. I am looking forward to meeting you again. Regards, Peter
MEGOLDÁSI JAVASLAT (B) My mother tongue is Hungarian and I can speak English at intermediate level. I have been learning English for eight years. I started learning English in primary school, and then I continued it in secondary school. I even attended a brush-up course at a private language school. I read books and newspapers in English, I watch films with subtitles. Getting some good software is a helpful tactic. Firstly, software is very interactive and so it is an engaging way to learn. With software, it is usually easy to set your own pace. You can use flashcards to build up your vocabulary. I also recommend a reader, which is a book written in the language at a very basic level. My final advice is: A little a day is better than a lot occasionally. Everyone says this, but it is true because that is how our brains work. A language certificate is necessary if you want to get a degree and it is advantageous if you want to go on to higher education or if you would like to get a good job. Job interviews are often conducted in the foreign language required, so it is not enough to have a language certificate. There are many reasons to learn a foreign language, from working in another country to discovering your roots, through intellectual curiosity, romance, and travel. You can get to know the cultures of other nations, you can use English as a lingua franca with other nonnative speakers of the language, you can communicate while travelling, you can read professional articles in your field of research. Learning languages can be one of the chief pleasures of your life as it provides both intellectual stimulus and social adventure.

Boomerang Kids: The Challenges of Living with Adult Children Thanks to the recession, we have a new expression in the lexicon: baby gloomers -boomers whose adult kids have moved back home with them. Unable to find work and often saddled with college loans, 20-somethings have been turning empty nests into cluttered ones, forcing their boomer parents to rethink their plans to quit working. According to the Pew Research Center, more than 21 percent of adult children ages 25 to 34 are living in multigenerational households. While in some cases, the arrangement has drawn families closer, for others this way of living sometimes hits a few rough patches. Take Susan Denley and Bill Nottingham of Los Alamitos, California. They refer to the fleeting 14 months that their two adult children lived outside the family home as "the glorious months." The new living arrangements pose unique challenges. Denley recalls the morning that she was padding around her kitchen in her bedroom slippers when a young woman emerged from her son's bedroom. It was a spit-out-a-mouthful-of-coffee moment, she said. Linda Perlman Gordon, co-author of "Mom Can I Move Back in With You?," said adult kids should discuss with their parents the house rules before they move back in, but few do. Another challenge is the “too-much-information” conundrum -- knowledge that can translate into worry. For example, Denley’s daughter recently went skydiving to celebrate a friend's birthday. "Bill and I were both worried for two weeks about whether it would be safe." For other parents, the opposite is true: They wouldn’t mind knowing a little more about their child’s comings and goings. Sue Friedlander and her husband Ron share their condo with their son Paul. Paul pretty much keeps to his room when he’s home, sometimes eating meals there, said his mother: "It's his space; he lives up there. If he socializes, he goes out. If he has a girlfriend, I'd love to meet her." In addition, adjusting to multigenerational living can involve figuring out the finances. Both Denley and Nottingham have seen their workplace become greatly affected by cutbacks and layoffs. This is the type of scenario that can inspire careful preretirement planning. Instead, they are picking up the tab for the kids’ car insurance and their cell phones bills through a family plan. Neither child pays rent. An adult child can make other contributions to the family: driving grandparents to appointments, fixing dinner or taking care of the laundry or the dog. And there are upsides to the multigenerational arrangement, Denley admitted. For example, her son throws a party about twice a year and cooks for about 40 friends. Denley and Nottingham head out to dinner that night, returning home by 10 p.m. and then can socialize with their son and his guests. Both sides in a multigenerational household need to compromise, said Denley. Sue Friedlander agreed: "Our son seems happy with the living arrangement. As for us, we are happy to have him. We are absolutely okay with him staying with us for as long as he wants to."
